Abstract

Glutinous corn has a weakness in its production which is still low, especially in the Labuhanbatu area. This study aims to determine the growth and yield of maize pulut (Zea mays certaina L) from the administration of various doses of rice husk charcoal. This research was conducted in an experimental area in Ujung Batu Hamlet, Perbaungan Village, Bilah Hulu District, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra. This research was conducted from April to June 2021. The research design used was a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 4 treatments, namely M0: Ultisol soil without rice husk charcoal 10 kg, M1: (4 kg soil: 6 kg rice husk charcoal ), M2 : (5 kg soil : 5 kg rice husk charcoal) and M3 : (6 kg soil : 4 kg rice husk charcoal). Parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, flowering age and cob weight. The data were analyzed using the F test with a confidence level of 5%. The results showed that the best treatment was to use the M2 treatment (5 kg soil: 5 kg rice husk charcoal). Keywords: corn, growth, rice husk charcoal

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential integration of local wisdom in corn cultivation practices in Sei Siarti Village to improve farmers' welfare and support environmental sustainability. The research method involved field surveys, interviews, and observations of cultivation structures and natural resource management systems. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to evaluate the relationship between the application of local wisdom and farmers' income enhancement. The findings reveal that traditional practices, such as selecting adaptable crop varieties, eco-friendly soil management techniques, and natural pest control methods, contribute to sustainable productivity while maintaining ecosystem balance. Integrating local knowledge with modern agricultural technology is expected to enhance food security and improve the quality of life for farmers in the future. Therefore, government support and training in the application of environmentally friendly technology is highly recommended.

Abstract

Currently, the government continues to encourage the development of oil palm plantation areas with the aim of boosting domestic economic activity. Tanjung Siram has a large area of land and has the potential to be developed into plantations, especially oil palm plantations. This regency has a land area of 1056 ha. Therefore, an evaluation of land suitability needs to be carried out in order to know the actual and potential land suitability class recommendations for oil palm plantations in that village. The stages in the research included secondary data collection, pre-survey, main survey and soil analysis in the laboratory. Land suitability classification is done by matching method. From the research results it is known that the limiting factors in the actual land suitability class at the study site were temperature, water availability, nutrient retention, and erosion hazard. After improvements have been made with good land management, the land suitability class can be increased with a potential land suitability class, which was previously classified as S3, increased to S2, and previously classified as S2, can be increased to S1. Thus, to obtain good oil palm growth in this region, it is necessary to improve the limiting factors on each land.

Abstract

Honey water guava (Syzygium aqueum) is one of the newest high-quality commodities and is increasingly being cultivated by farmers in various regions. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of applying organic plant growth regulators (PGRs) derived from sprout extracts at different doses on the growth of water apple (Syzygium aqueum) plants. A completely randomized design (CRD) with a single treatment factor was employed. The results demonstrated that the 60 mL treatment of ZPT Organic Benefits Extract was the most effective in promoting plant growth, achieving an average height of 10.8 cm and five shoots at 4 weeks after planting (WAP), compared to the control treatment, which reached only 8 cm in height and two shoots. These findings indicate that the 60 mL dose of organic PGR extract from sprouts significantly enhanced growth and stimulated shoot development relative to the other treatments.

Abstract

Sustainable agriculture requires the prudent management of natural resources, including the judicious use of fertilizers and other inputs. One of the primary challenges faced by farmers is the decline in soil fertility resulting from the prolonged use of chemical fertilizers. This study aims to evaluate the effect of Kasgot fertilizer on soil chemical properties, specifically soil pH, organic carbon content, total nitrogen (N), available phosphorus (P), and available potassium (K), in cucumber cultivation. Soil sampling was conducted using a proportional sampling method, where sample points were selected based on soil availability and were representative of the cucumber cultivation area. The results indicated that, based on the analysis of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) nutrient content, the treatment with 5 grams per planting hole was most effective in increasing phosphorus availability to 0.2907%, classified as high. Meanwhile, the treatments with 10 grams and 20 grams per planting hole were more effective in increasing soil potassium content to 0.0724% and 0.0708%, respectively, both of which were classified as moderate to high.

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of Indonesia's leading plantation commodities and plays a strategic role in the national economy. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of EFB compost as an alternative source of potassium, analyze its effect on potassium nutrient uptake, and assess its impact on oil palm yields at PT Evans Group. This research method used a field experiment approach by comparing two treatments: a control treatment without EFB compost and a treatment with EFB compost at a dose of 50 kg per plant. The results showed that compost application had a positive effect on plants, as indicated by increased leaf potassium content in the compost treatment compared to the treatment without compost. Although the difference was not significant, these results indicate that compost plays a role in increasing potassium availability and uptake by plants, thus supporting better plant growth.

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is a tropical plantation crop with high economic value and is one of Indonesia's mainstay commodities. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of basal stem rot (Ganoderma boninense) infestation in oil palm plants at the Pangkatan Plantation of PT. Evans Group, the magnitude of the resulting fresh fruit bunch (FFB) yield losses, and the relationship between disease severity and the decrease in FFB yield. The research method used was a survey method with a quantitative descriptive approach. The results showed that the level of ganoderma infestation in Block A1 was relatively low at 8.7%, but had a significant impact on oil palm productivity. Trees attacked by ganoderma produced lower fresh fruit bunch (FFB) weights than healthy trees, thus indicating that plant health significantly affects production results.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of fertilizer application with a concentration of 5 grams per liter on the vegetative growth of immature oil palm plants (TBM). The study was conducted for 4 weeks with observation intervals once a week, using two treatments: control and application of 5 grams per liter fertilizer, each with 10 replications. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and leaf length. Data were analyzed using ANOVA test and continued with DMRT test at the 5% level. The results showed that the application of 5 grams per liter fertilizer had a significantly different effect on all growth parameters compared to the control in each observation week. This treatment consistently resulted in higher growth, so it can be concluded that the application of 5 grams per liter fertilizer is effective in increasing the vegetative growth of immature oil palm plants.
