Abstract

This article is a result of a research about Minangkabau societal ideology which is reflected by the novels written by West Sumatran’s author. The Minangkabau societal ideology can be as a tool to form and to  educate children. Base on the works analyzed, the ideology message was found and became the foundation to form the children character such as keep strugglins, to have empathy to other people, to have responsibility, creative and innovative, the feeling of togetherness, mutual aid and hard work. Therefore, the benefit cannot be neglected that literary works such as novels can be use as one effective media to form and to lead the character of Indonesian children, especially to establish the uniqueness of Indonesia society in global relation. So that, children have to read literary work as the pillar of character education.Keywords      : novel, ideology, character, society, formation

Abstract

This paper aims to describe the relationship of Literary Works (novels) to nature. Literary studies that emphasize the relationship of literature with nature entered into the realm of literary ecology and specifically called Literary Ecocritics. In the presentation of this paper it leads to a descriptive description as a characteristic of qualitative research. The scientific method applied in this study is the discourse approach that exists in eco-criticism. In the novel Kubah di Atas Pasir by Zhainal Fanani, nature is not only used as a setting of place and atmosphere in literary works but also an aspect that helps build the story and aesthetics of a literary work. In this novel, nature is used as a medium of communication by humans in their lives.Keywords: Nature, eco-criticism, media, and literature

Abstract

In this article is discussed about the thought of Hamka contained in his novels. Hamka a man who has a multitalenta as a writer, thinker, writer, historian, and mufasir. That is, a Hamka not only as a writer but also as a thinker, writer, mufasir (interpreter of the Qur'an) and historian at the same time. The unification of the five qualities as above would be complementary to each other. Thus, when Hamka concocted a novel, her qualities as a thinker. writers, mufasir and historians will accumulate into his fictional work so that in the work of his novels there are a number of pithy thoughts. A number of thoughts contained in his fictional works can not be separated from the social realities of Hamka's life. Keywords: Thought, Hamka, works of fiction, and social reality

Abstract

Language is upstream for the literary work. In literature, language is not only a means of communication but also a means to express aestethic. To maintain the aestethic, theauthorusing several form connotative, emotive, and aesthetic language. A famous author in West Sumatra, Wisran Hadi, in his novel entitled Negeri Perempuan expresses language creativity in naming the characters. The the method used is qualitative method. The results show each name of the character in the novel has themeaningwhich related to the character it represents. Moreover, it also associated with the background of the work of the cultural background of Minangkabau culture. This research aims to discusslanguage creativity and social conditions of Minangkabau culture represent in the novel.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the tradition of merantau in Indonesian novels depicting the Minangkabau community. The tradition of merantau is a tradition that has its roots in Minangkabau and intends to shape the character of the younger generation. To analyze the merantau activity in the novel, the sociology of literature approach was used, especially genetic structuralism. The theory of genetic structuralism is relevant for dismantling the merantau activity in novels because this theory related closely to the genetic aspects of a novel. This study concludes that merantau in the Minangkabau community can shape the character of creating youth. The characters formed are tenacious, have a sense of sympathy and cooperation, and have a strong spirit and practice religious teachings.

Abstract

Ada kalanya seorang penulis mengalami keraguan dalam menulis; apakah ia akan menggunakan huruf kapital (huruf besar) atau kecil, huruf miring atau bukan. Misalnya dalam penulisan nama tempat/geografi, ada penulis yang mengalami keraguan apakah kata danau pada danau singkarak atau kata selat pada selat sunda huruf pertamanya ditulis besar atau kecil. Lalu ada pula pertanyaan apa beda kata kunci inggris yang ditulis semuanya dengan huruf kecil dengan kata asinan Bogor yang ditulis dengan membubuhi huruf kapital pada nama tempatnya. Pada sisi yang lain banyak pula pengguna bahasa yang bimbang dalam menulis akronim; apakah semuanya ditulis kapital atau hanya huruf awalnya saja yang capital atau bahkan semuanya ditulis dengan huruf kecil. Oleh karena itu, pentinglah dilakukan pelatihan penerpan penggunaan EYD pada masyarakat khususnya guru-guru SD di Kecamatan Pauh Padang. Pelaksanaan pelatihan penerpan penggunaan EYD ini termasuk salah satu perhatian masyarakat akademik seperti Universitas Andalas dalam menerapkan salah satu Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, yakni pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan untuk kegiatan pengabdian ini ialah dengan menggadakan pelatihan penerapan penggunaan EYD. Setelah pelatihan dan penerapan EYD untuk guru-guru SD , ada beberapa simpulan yang dapat dikumpulkan. Simpulan itu adalah sebagai berikut:1. Guru-guru SD Kecamatan Pauh Kota Padang menyadari pentingnya kemampuana dalam pemahaman ejaan. 2. Guru-guru SD Kecamatan Pauh Kota Padang menyadari kekurangperhatian dalam penulisan yang benar terutama dlam penulisan ilmiah.3. Guru-guru SD Kecamatan Pauh Kota Padang berharap kami kembali lagi melakukan pengabdian kepada mereka.

Abstract

Teachers as educators likely require great encouragement such crative thinking ability. The monotonous teachers routines such as cumulative credits fulfillment or teaching hours force the ability decrease on teachers to think creatively. Therefore, this community service activity is succesfully carried out toward SD N Lambung Bukit teachers with theme “Peningkatan Kemampuan Berpikir Kreatif untuk Guru SD Negeri 10 Lambung Bukit melalui Penulisan Cerita Anak”. This given training presents the theories and practices about creative writing then later the teachers are able to produce the creative stories for children. The are three methods are conducted in this activity, those are lecture method, the discussion method, and the practical method of writing children's stories. To find out the creative thinking and writing abilities of SD Negeri 10 Lambung Bukit, at the end of the training, an evaluation is also applied to criticize the language and ideas that the teachers put on their works. Based on this training, those children's stories still contain Indonesian spelling mistakes, such as writing letters, writing punctuation marks, and writing loanwords elements. However, the SD Negeri 10 Lambung Bukit teachers have experienced in improving the creative thinking, especially in the choice of children's story ideas, the choice of diction, and the composition of effective sentences that written in accordance with Indonesian language rules.

Abstract

After Indonesia's independence, various internal conflicts occurred which caused several major upheavals. These include Permesta, PRRI, 1965, and 1998 incidents. Not only upheavals, but also crimes, such as rape, looting, torture, and even genocide. This is what makes literary works present by recounting incidents of violence or disappearances that occurred during the upheaval, one of which is the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori which discusses the events of 1998. Genocide events can be one of the factors that cause trauma, so Hirsch explained that genocide can be a factor in the occurrence of memory transmission to the next generation. Thus, an analysis of how genocide is described to form trauma to the victim or the people around the victim is interesting to explore. The research method used in this study is descriptive narrative analysis obtained through novels or other supporting references that support the presence of a genocide narrative so that trauma can be analyzed by victims or the people around them. The result of this study is that there was a genocide in the Wiratna and Wirasena communities, they were considered to have carried out activities against the government resulting in detention, torture, and disappearances. This incident of disappearance or genocide caused the victim who managed to escape, his family, and even those around the victim to be traumatized by this event. Although, in the end, they were able to start accepting reality.

Abstract

The influence of developments over time has caused traditions and culture in society to begin to be marginalized because they are considered unreasonable or pre-logical. However, currently many parties are starting to revive the tradition, including the government through tourism and involving writers. Apart from that, writers also express traditions through literary works. This can be seen in the novels Puya ke Puya and Natisha Persembahan Terakhir. The traditions described are people's beliefs about the rambu solo and parakang ceremonies. However, the traditions depicted have been influenced by developments over time so that the traditions depicted are no longer traditions that are believed to be considered sacred like previous societies. Therefore, we can see the depiction of the existence of a tradition through a literary work. The research method used is the literary anthropology approach which discusses the relationship between literature, anthropology and culture. This research aims to see how traditions and culture exist in literary works. The result of this research is that there is a simulakra process of Sulawesi culture in the literary works of the two authors. Apart from that, there is criticism conveyed by the author towards the culture that develops through the response of society as depicted in the characters. Thus, it can be concluded that the culture presented in literary works through the simulakra process does not just introduce culture, but also criticizes society's response to cultural developments. Abstrak Pengaruh perkembangan zaman menyebabkan tradisi dan budaya yang ada di dalam masyarakat mulai dimarginalkan karena dianggap tidak masuk di akal atau bersifat pralogis. Namun, saat ini banyak pihak mulai menyuarakan kembali tradisi, di antaranya pemerintah melalui pariwisata dengan melibatkan sastrawan. Selain itu, sastrawan juga menyuarakan tradisi melalui karya sastra. Hal itu terlihat dalam novel Puya ke Puya dan Natisha Persembahan Terakhir. Tradisi yang digambarkan adalah kepercayaan masyarakat tentang upacara rambu solo dan parakang. Namun, tradisi yang digambarkan telah dipengaruhi oleh perkembangan zaman sehingga bukan lagi merupakan tradisi yang dipercaya dan dianggap sakral seperti anggapan masyarakat sebelumnya. Oleh karena itu, dapat dilihat penggambaran eksistensi sebuah tradisi melalui sebuah karya sastra. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan antropologi sastra yang membahas keterkaitan sastra, antropologi, dan budaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan melihat bagaimana tradisi dan budaya yang ada dalam karya sastra. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya proses simulakra kebudayaan Sulawesi dalam karya sastra kedua pengarang. Selain itu, terdapat kritik yang disampaikan pengarang terhadap kebudayaan yang berkembang melalui respons masyarakat yang tergambar dalam tokoh. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kebudayaan yang dihadirkan dalam karya sastra melalui proses simulakra tidak sekadar memperkenalkan kebudayaan, tetapi juga mengkritisi respons masyarakat terhadap perkembangan kebudayaan tersebut.
