Abstract

Background: Myasthenia gravis is a rare autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that significantly impacts patients' quality of life due to fluctuating muscle weakness and the risk of myasthenic crisis. Therapeutic plasma exchange is one of the primary therapies used to manage acute exacerbations by removing pathogenic antibodies from the circulation. Purpose: To explore the lived experiences of patients with myasthenia gravis undergoing therapeutic plasma exchange from physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual perspectives. Method: A qualitative study using a phenomenological approach was conducted involving nine participants diagnosed with myasthenia gravis who had undergone therapeutic plasma exchange more than once. Data were collected through in-depth face-to-face interviews and analyzed using Husserlian phenomenological analysis. Results: Participants reported physical symptoms including ptosis, diplopia, dysphagia, dyspnea, dysphonia, and limb weakness. During the procedure, common complaints were a sensation of coldness and fatigue, while post-therapy improvements included reduced shortness of breath, clearer voice, improved eyelid function, and increased muscle strength. Conclusion: The experiences of patients with Myasthenia Gravis undergoing Plasma Exchange Therapy are multidimensional. Holistic nursing care that addresses physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual aspects is crucial to support treatment success and improve patient outcomes.   Keywords: Holistic Nursing Care; Myasthenia Gravis; Phenomenology; Patient Experience; Therapeutic Plasma Exchange.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus affects various dimensions of health, including sleep pattern disruptions, which can be exacerbated by high levels of stress and prolonged fatigue. This study aims to explore the correlation between stress levels and fatigue with sleep quality in diabetes mellitus patients at Puskesmas Bangetayu Semarang. This research adopts an observational-analytical design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 119 individuals selected through purposive sampling, based on characteristics that meet the study criteria. Data collection was conducted using PSQI, PSS-10, and FAS instruments, which assess sleep quality, stress levels, and fatigue, respectively. Data analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate approaches, employing the gamma test to determine the degree of association between variables. The findings indicate that 42.9% of respondents experience high levels of stress, 52.9% report severe fatigue, and 60.5% have poor sleep quality. Correlation analysis yielded a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05), with a correlation coefficient of 0.774 for stress and 0.753 for fatigue, confirming a significant relationship between both variables and sleep quality.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains an infectious disease with a high incidence rate, transmitted through airborne droplets. TB patients often face discrimination in various aspects of life. This discrimination can worsen the treatment process, as they may avoid seeking treatment due to fear of being judged or ostracized. Family support for TB patients is expected to aid in treatment adherence and improve their quality of life. This study used a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 55 pulmonary TB patients at Bangetayu Public Health Center in Semarang, selected through total sampling. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate chi-square analysis. The univariate analysis revealed that 98.2% of respondents had good family support, and 89.1% had a fairly good quality of life. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test showed a significant relationship between family support and the quality of life of pulmonary TB patients at Bangetayu Public Health Center, with a p-value of 0.001.
