Abstract

The position of children in the family is still an interesting phenomenon to research. One of them is an only child. The mere presence of children results in parents treating children with various parenting patterns and styles which ultimately affect the child's self-concept. This research aims to determine the self-concept that is formed in only children in Ciracas District, East Jakarta. This research approach is descriptive qualitative, namely field research using the case study method. The subjects of this research consisted of two students who were only children and were active students at a private university. Data collection tools used were observation, interviews and documentation. Data were analyzed through four steps, namely: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results found that the two students had different self-concepts. The first subject has a positive self-concept based on the characteristics, namely being able to accept oneself, be confident, have a positive attitude, not think negatively of others, carry out self-evaluation. The second subject has a negative self-concept based on the characteristics, namely not being able to accept oneself, still lacking self-confidence, having negative thoughts about other people, being easily angry, not liking oneself enough.

Abstract

This background is based on the emergence of a phenomenon in middle adulthood, where individuals adjust themselves independently to life and social expectations. Usually, men and women experience their happiest years in middle adulthood, a period which is also known as a period of crisis (generativity) and generally this phase is the period when men and women reach the peak of their happiness. Finding out whether men and women experience different levels of happiness in middle adulthood is the main aim of this research. With a sample size of 2,300 people, this research used comparative quantitative methodology. Because the study topic or data source is very broad, cluster sampling is used, namely the sample determination method. Therefore, certain population areas are used as the basis for sampling. The sample taken was 100 respondents, namely, 50 middle-aged men and 50 middle-aged women who were the samples for this study. Therefore, the level of happiness in middle adulthood does not differ significantly between men and women.

Abstract

Final-year students often feel anxious about career prospects, indecision, being stuck in difficult situations, and uncertainty about the next steps after graduation, which negatively impacts their emotional state. This phenomenon is known as quarter-life crisis. The aim of this study is to determine the role of emotional intelligence (X) on the quarter life crisis (Y). This research uses a correlational quantitative method with a sample of 63 students aged between 20-25 years. Data collection was conducted using instruments in the form of a Likert scale for the quarter-life crisis and emotional intelligence scales. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s product-moment correlation with the assistance of SPSS 26.0 for Windows. The correlation test results showed a value of -0.500 wich is significant. This value indicates a negative correlation between emotional intelligence and the quarter-life crisis, meaning that individuals with high emotional intelligence tend to experience lower quarter life crises. Conversely, individuals with low emotional intelligence tend to experience a higher quarter-life crisis.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the phenomenon of many teenagers who have difficulty controlling their phubbing behavior around them. This phenomenon can be seen in social interactions, where someone ignores the person they are talking to by continuously focusing on their smartphone. This behavior also reflects a lack of mutual respect between individuals. Phubbing behavior describes individuals who are too focused on their smartphones. Many teenagers ignore interpersonal communication because they are busy with their smartphones, so this phenomenon is increasingly common among teenagers. This study aims to analyze differences in phubbing behavior based on the gender of students at SMPN 102 Jakarta. The research method used is descriptive quantitative, with data collection techniques using the Phubbing instrument developed by Karadag (2015) which has been modified and adapted. The scale used is the Likert scale. The research sample consisted of 36 students, consisting of 19 male students and 17 female students. The results of the statistical analysis showed no significant difference based on gender, but were included in the moderate category.

Abstract

Divorce for couples with children is a decision that affects not only the divorcing couple, but also the children. Some children take a long time to forgive their parents' divorce, so the purpose of this study is to explore the forgiveness process in children's recovery after their parents' divorce. This research method uses a descriptive approach through interviews. The subjects of this study are children who are victims of their parents' divorce, the number of subjects in this study is 2 people. The data collection tools used in this research are interview guide, observation and documentation. The research results show that the first subject feels disappointment and anger and is more likely to avoid forgiveness, while the second subject is more able to accept their situation. This study concludes that the forgiveness process is crucial for children after their parents' divorce, with the first subject having an avoidance motivation, namely to avoid the perpetrator, while subject "R" shows a benevolence motivation with an indifferent attitude towards his parents' divorce, as well as a desire to help others who have the same problems as himself, namely by giving advice and being a place to tell stories. These two approaches contribute significantly to emotional healing from parental divorce.
