Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the description of The students’ free writing toward ICT as media in English learning on midwifery students of STIKES Pembina. The sample of this research was taken by using totaling sampling technique with 36 midwifery students from STIKES Pembina, that consist of 13 students from 2nd semester students and 23 students from 4th semester. The data was obtained based on every meeting during online learning, that was from the third meeting to the seventh meeting that consists of 5 days for obtaining the data. Then from the data analysis, it’s obtained that there was the good improvement response by writing English related to the material since the frist day to the fifith day that was 63% of students response to the 95% students response in the last day. During the implementation of online learning by using ICT (whatssapp group and edlink) the obstacle raised on students. Many factor that made the students can’t join the class and response. One of the factor was the access on internet in their hometown. Even had the obstacle the use of ICT can be good choice in conducting the teaching and learning EFL proces of midwifery students of STIKES Pembina PalembangKeywords: free writing and ICT.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between grammar mastery and writing ability on midwifery students at STIKES Pembina Palembang. The population in this study was 22 of fourth semester students of the midwifery study program, STIKES Pembina and study sample were all the population that using total sampling. The data were obtained by using 2 tests, namely the TOEFL (structure and written expression) test and the English writing test. To verify the hypothesis, the data were analyzed by using correlation analysis and using the Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) software version 21.00. Based on data analysis the correlation coefficient on grammar mastery and writing ability was 0.790, this showed that the relationship had a very high relationship and the value of r- is higher than the critical value of r null hypothesis table (Ho) was rejected and consequently, the research hypothesis (H1) received.Keywords: Grammar Mastery, and Writing Ability

Abstract

Speaking is the way to convey the information that must be acquired by students. Consequently, this study aimed to see whether Communicative Language Teaching could promote midwifery students’ speaking ability or not. In conducting this research, a quasi-experimental method was employed using a nonequivalent groups design. The sample taken was the second-semester student midwifery from STIK Bina Husada consisting of 38 students. To gather data, the oral test was employed. The speaking test was considered valid in terms of content validity and reliability. The reliability of the test was measured using inter-rater reliability. The results revealed that the t-obtained (5.42) was higher than the t-table (2.02) at the significant level of p<0.05. It can be concluded that Communicative Language Teaching could promote students speaking ability. Communicative Language Teaching could motivate students to be brave and self-confident in speaking performance and more active in using English as their spoken language in-class activities.

Abstract

In writing English essay, the students often face the problem. One of the causes as there was no appropriate method to be used to explore their ideas or paradigm. The opinion essay was one of the good ways to be used in overcoming the problem. The objective of this research was to see the differences in students’ writing achievement on nursing students between those who were taught using opinion essay and those who were not. A quasi-experimental method was used, with a non-equivalent group design for the pre-test and posttest. The samples consisted of 50 fifth-semester students of conversion nursing students from STIK Bina Husada. An essay writing test was utilized to collect data. The data were obtained by using pre and post writing test. The score of writing in control group in post test was 70 and in experiment group with the highest score was 92.The mean difference of post-test from both groups was 12.88, standard error difference was 1.68, and t-obtained was 7.46 at a significant level of p<0.05. From the result it can be concluded that the use of opinion essays leads the students to explore more ideas, point of view and paradigm into English written essays and this method can be used by lecturer to enhance the student’ writing achievement of STIK Bina Husada PalembangKeywords:opinion essay, writing achievement

Abstract

This research aimed to promote the speaking achievement of the second STIK Bina Husada Palembang midwifery students using reporting technique. This research used a quasi-experimental method, with a non-equivalent group design for the pre-test and post-test. The population consisted of 38 students who were as sample from STIK Bina Husada Palembang's second-semester midwifery students. The sample taken by using total sampling technique to obtained the sample. In collecting the data, a speaking test was utilized. The test was found to be both valid and reliable. The value of t-obtained (5.59) was greater than t-table (2.02) at the significant level of ρ 0.05, according to the results of the independent t-test. It was concluded that the reporting technique could promote students’ speaking achievement. It meant that this technique could help students improve their speaking skills. The reporting strategy proved effective in teaching second-year midwifery students how to interpret a recount text. As a result, it can be concluded that reporting technique can be used by students to improve their speaking English, and teachers can use this technique in teaching and learning the students in order to increase and motivate the students' speaking in STIK Husada Bina.

Abstract

Spelling is the forming of words from written and oral forms according to accepted usage. English spelling is difficult and often unpredictable. To be a better speller, a student must be able to remember sounds of letters in isolation as well as how to blend them into whole words. The students need a great deal or practice using the words functionally, as in writing. Therefore, the students have to associate letter sounds with the correct letters. Making Words is an innovative word study and word play activity, students are guided through the process of using a limited number of letters to make a series of words. This study was conducted in SD Negeri 6 Palembang, One of the quasi-experimental designs, the pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design was applied in this study. The results of the study showed that there was significant difference in Spelling ability between the students who were taught by using Making Words and those who were not. On the basis of the independent samples test, t-obtained of the posttest of experimental and control groups was 2.511. Finally, the results of the interview showed that most of the students were interested in learning Spelling through Making Words. Therefore, Making Words is an effective way to be used in teaching spelling. Keywords:  Spelling, Making Words, Young Learners

Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan proses memanusiakan manusia, hal ini dapat dipahami karena untuk mencapai status manusia seutuhnya tidak mungkin tanpa melalui proses pendidikan. Pendidikan bukan hanya proses transfer pengetahuan, tetapi juga memberikan kesempatan kepada peserta didik untuk mengembangkan karakternya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengintegrasikan permainan peran ke dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Bermain peran juga dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu pembelajaran yang menarik di dalam kelas. Oleh karena itu, seluruh aspek pembelajaran melalui role-playing digali dan dibimbing bagaimana penerapannya di dalam kelas. Oleh karena itu, semua aspek pengajaran melalui role-playing dieksplorasi dan diberikan panduan tentang bagaimana menggunakannya di dalam kelas. Pendidikan karakter tidak hanya diberikan pada mata kuliah pengembangan kepribadian, seperti Agama, Kewarganegaraan atau Pancasila. Kursus Bahasa Inggris juga dapat memuat kegiatan yang dapat meningkatkan nilai karakter, salah satunya dapat mengintegrasikan metode role playing. Dalam menetapkan tujuan pembelajaran, sangat penting membekali siswa dengan berbagai kegiatan pembelajaran yang dapat membangun karakter.

Abstract

Paraphrasing has two main purposes, namely to avoid plagiarism and to make ideas easier to understand. The purpose of this research is to answer the following questions: 1. How are the paraphrasing results of the students of the Nursing Study Program STIK Bina Husada Palembang?, and 2. What are their perceptions of paraphrasing?. This research was conducted on May 27th, 2023, out of 38 students registered, only 34 students from the Nursing Science Study Program STIK Bina Husada Palembang participated in this research The students were asked to paraphrase a text containing 119 words entitled "Why is the millennial generation vulnerable to smartphone addiction?" the pparticipants were first shown the text and asked to read to gain understanding, then they were asked to paraphrase the paragraph. The results of this study indicated that the students of the Nursing Study Program at STIK Bina Husada Palembang are divided into 2 groups, namely: those who successfully paraphrase and those who fail, however, the limitations of the study should be noticed for further research. The results of this study have implications for teaching, bearing in mind that there are still students who avoid changing words and sentence structures when paraphrasing, this is due to limited vocabulary in making effective paraphrasing

Abstract

Berbicara merupakan cara menyampaikan informasi yang harus diperoleh siswa. Kemampuan sendiri mempunyai arti kesanggupan, kecakapan, kekuatan, kekayaan. Sedangkan kemampuan menurut bahasa berarti kemampuan seseorang menggunakan bahasa yang memadai dilihat dari sistem bahasa, antara lain mencakup sopan santun, memahami giliran dalam bercakap-cakap. Kemampuan berbicara dimiliki oleh semua manusia. Namun keterampilan berbicara di depan orang banyak belum tentu dimiliki oleh setiap orang. Pembicara harus mengembangkan teknik-teknik untuk persiapan, untuk Menyusun struktur pembicaraan, untuk menularkan energi dan semangat, serta untuk menangkap dan menanggapi minat pendengar. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dengan menggunakan communicative language teaching mahasiswa program studi kebidanan STIK Bina Husada Palembang. Sebanyak 20 mahasiswa mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian ini, yang dilaksanakan pada tanggal 1 November 2023 yang bertempat di Gedung STIK Bina Husada Palembang Jl. Kapt Cek Syeh 28 Ilir Palembang. Pengajaran Bahasa Komunikatif dapat memotivasi siswa untuk berani dan percaya diri dalam penampilan berbicara dan lebih aktif dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa lisan mereka. Diharapkan mahasiswa dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata baik dalam bahasa Indonesia maupun dalam bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini ditujukan kepada mahasiswa program studi ilmu keperawatan STIK Bina Husada. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan menulis esai deskripsi melalui kegiatan pendampingan menulis esai deskripsi Bahasa Inggris. Esai deskripsi merupakan esai yang membahas deskripsi tentang suatu subjek atau hal dengan melibatkan panca indera. Dalam esai deskriptif, penulis akan mendeskripsikan suatu topik secara lengkap dan detail sehingga pembaca akan lebih mudah memahami. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada hari Senin, tanggal 13 Mei 2024, yang bertempat di STIK Bina Husada Palembang, Jl. Kapt, Cek Syeh 28 Ilir Palembang. Kegiatan ini dimulai dengan pemaparan materi mengenai penulisan esai deskripsi dan dilanjutkan dengan praktek penulisan. Adapun kendala yang dihadapi oleh peserta pengabdian adalah terbatasnya kosa kata dalam bahasa Inggris dan penggunaan subject-verb agreement tetapi secara garis besar, mahasiswa mampu dan dapat menulis esai deskripsi secara baik.
