Abstract

COVID-19 or widely known as Corona Virus Disease 2019 influences the teaching and learning process in the world. Due to prevent the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Education and Culture ask the teachers to teach the students using online learning. Therefore, the aim of this study is to find out the problems faced by the midwifery students of STIK Bina Husada Palembang and suggestions to enhance effectiveness of online learning. The descriptive research was applied. There were 35 students involved in this research, namely Midwifery students of STIK Bina Husada Palembang in the academic year of 2020/2021. The data were collected using questionnaire and were analyzed qualitatively with interactive model, covering data collection, data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. Having implemented the online learning during Covid-19 Pandemic, the students, parents, and the teachers got problems of online learning. The problems can be overcome by implementing some suggestions mentioned in this research.

Abstract

As an international language, English plays an important role in making people acquire knowledge, information, skills in communication in order to compete with other people in the international level. For example, those who master English can easily communicate with people from other countries in English and can read scientific books written in English. In Indonesia, there is a great demand for the people to learn English both in formal education and in non-formal education. In order to take an active part or even to survive in the present state of technological advancements and rapid growth of the globalization, someone has to have proficient mastery of the English language. One way to develop students’ achievement is through cooperative learning, they can work together, appreciate others’ opinion and give others chance to share their opinion, therefore the students can have higher motivation because they are encouraged by others. The sample of this research is STIK Bina Husada students, the researcher gives treatment to the experimental group, that is Team Assisted Individualized (TAI), the results are compared between before and after the treatment, to analyze the motivation changes, the researcher distributes a quetionnaire  through likert skale and t test, and to analyze students’ reading comprehension, the researcher distributes a reading test. Based on statistical analysis, it is found that there is significant influence of cooperative learning to the students’ learning motivaion and english reading comprehension where t value in students motivaion 8.212, reading comprehension 7.008, in .000 significant level. Keywords: TAI, learning motivation, reading achievement

Abstract

Most educational institutions use online learning platforms during the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the platforms frequently used is Zoom. This research aimed to describe the diploma 3 pharmacy students’ perceptions of the use of Zoom in learning English. The data were collected through a questionnaire and interviews. 43 diploma 3 of pharmacy students at STIFI Bhakti Pertiwi Palembang participated in this research. Since this research explored diploma 3 of pharmacy students' perception coming from the students' experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic, descriptive research by using qualitative technique was applied. The result of this research was found that diploma 3 pharmacy students got positive perception toward Zoom application usage in learning English because it was accessible and effective. Although the electricity disturbance, internet quota, and the use of smartphone were sources of students’ problem in learning English, the diploma 3 pharmacy students agreed that Zoom application were effective and efficient in terms of time, place, and energy. Moreover, they also agreed that Zoom application could help them to improve language skills and to minimize bashfulness in virtual class interaction.

Abstract

The current coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is having a profound impact, not only on people’s health, but also on how they learn, work and live. Amongst the most important challenges created by Covid-19 is how to adopt a system of education built around physical schools. Based on the Higher Education Law number 12 of 2012, Article 31 concerning Distance Education is a learning process that is carried out remotely through the use of various communication and information media. With the implementation of distance learning during the pandemic and the problems that occurred above, it turns out that this decision has the risk of causing learning loss for students. Asian Development Bank (ADB) estimates that school closures due to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic have made many students in Indonesia lose learning opportunities Based on the Human Capital Index 2020, Indonesia has a LAYS of 7.83 years. This research was conducted using qualitative descriptive research. This study aims to reveal the facts, phenomena, and circumstances that existed during the research process by providing what actually happened when learning activities took place with distance education. This burden is the responsibility of all elements of education, especially the state in facilitating the continuity of schools for all educational stakeholders to conduct distance learning. How should Indonesia plan, prepare, and overcome the Covid-19 recovery, in order to reduce the losses to the world of education in the future

Abstract

Speaking is the way to convey the information that must be acquired by students. Consequently, this study aimed to see whether Communicative Language Teaching could promote midwifery students’ speaking ability or not. In conducting this research, a quasi-experimental method was employed using a nonequivalent groups design. The sample taken was the second-semester student midwifery from STIK Bina Husada consisting of 38 students. To gather data, the oral test was employed. The speaking test was considered valid in terms of content validity and reliability. The reliability of the test was measured using inter-rater reliability. The results revealed that the t-obtained (5.42) was higher than the t-table (2.02) at the significant level of p<0.05. It can be concluded that Communicative Language Teaching could promote students speaking ability. Communicative Language Teaching could motivate students to be brave and self-confident in speaking performance and more active in using English as their spoken language in-class activities.

Abstract

Material development is one of the important factors that determine the success of the language teaching and learning process. Teaching materials are a key component in language programs. English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is generally interpreted as an approach to learning English based on the goals/needs of the learner. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive method. The participants of this study were 7th semester students of the Nursing Science Study Program at STIK Bina Husasa Palembang, there were 58 students who had filled out a complete questionnaire, consisting of 11 males and 47 females. The instrument used is a questionnaire, The result showed student’s personal reasons for studying English was to be able to communicate in English fluently. 28% of the students answered to know and understand the grammar accurately, and 17% stated for working purposes. Further, majority of the students wanted to master their speaking skill at the end the program, followed by reading and speaking skills. 9% of the students wanted to master the listening skill and 9% of the students wanted to master all English aspects. The data generated from student questionnaires and interviews with the head of the nursing study program at STIK Bina Husada Palembang have explained several issues that need to be considered because the results of the answers offered offer significant suggestions for the development of English materials at STIK Bina Husada Palembang.

Abstract

Pengembangan keprofesian berkelanjutan adalah pengembangan kemampuan guru, yang dilakukan secara bertahap dan berkesinambungan sesuai kebutuhan untuk meningkatkan profesionalisme guru. Dalam pengembangan keprofesian guru, akan ditemukan berbagai hambatan dan permasalahan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan Problematika Implementasi Pengembangan Keprofesian Berkelanjutan (PKB) bagi Guru Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini (PAUD). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi pustaka. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: Dalam Pelaksanaan PKB tak terlepas dari berbagai kendala dan hambatan yang dihadapi, diantaranya adalah permasalahan terkait komponen PKB, permasalahan internal dan eksternal. Adapun Kendala Terkait Komponen PKB Guru PAUD, yaitu: (1) minimnya publikasi ilmiah guru PAUD; (2) kurangnya karya inovatif guru; (3) kesadaran pengembangan diri yang kurang. Kendala internal dan eksternal adalah kendala yang berasal dari dalam guru PAUD itu sendiri, diantara kendalanya adalah: (1) rendahnya motivasi guru; (2) keterbatasan waktu yang dimiliki guru untuk mengikuti program PKB; (3) pelaksanaan PKB di jam efektif sekolah; (4) sarana prasarana kurang memadai; (5) minim penerapan materi PKB; (6) kurangnya dukungan dari Dinas Pendidikan terkait; (7) kurangnya kemampuan guru dalam penggunaan teknologi; (8) kemampuan guru dalam memahami materi PKB masih kurang; (9) adanya ketentuan dan pembatasan peserta.

Abstract

Perbedaan struktur gramatikal antara bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran seringkali mengakibatkan beberapa perubahan makna selama proses penerjemahan. Data 2017 menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Indonesia merupakan salah satu bahasa yang paling sering menggunakan layanan Google Translate. Penggunaan tersebut pada dasarnya diperbolehkan, tetapi masih didapati beberapa mahasiswa yang kurang memperhatikan hasil terjemahan. Tujuan dari pelaksanaan kegiatan kepada masyarakat ini selain untuk menyajikan metode terjemahan, yaitu agar mahasiswa mampu menterjemahkan teks bacaan tanpa dan mengurangi bantuan aplikasi terjemahan. Kegiatan ini melibatkan 36 mahasiswa dengan menterjemahkan paragraph deskripsi dari Bahasa inggris ke Bahasa Indonesia dengan materi non-Communicable diseases. Dalam hasil terjemahan, didapati beberapa kata benda yang berbentuk jamak diterjemahkan kedalam bentuk tunggal, seperti kata women, diseases dan countries. Mahasiswa selalu menggunakan layanan Google Translate dalam menterjemahkan teks Bahasa inggris ke Bahasa Indonesia, ataupun sebaliknya, tetapi Google translate masih memiliki kelemahan. Dengan terlaksananya kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini mahasiswa Program Studi Kesehatan Masyarakat STIK Bina Husada berlatih dan mampu menterjemahkan teks tanpa bantuan layanan penerjemah walaupun masih terdapat beberapa perbaikan.

Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan proses memanusiakan manusia, hal ini dapat dipahami karena untuk mencapai status manusia seutuhnya tidak mungkin tanpa melalui proses pendidikan. Pendidikan bukan hanya proses transfer pengetahuan, tetapi juga memberikan kesempatan kepada peserta didik untuk mengembangkan karakternya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengintegrasikan permainan peran ke dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Bermain peran juga dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu pembelajaran yang menarik di dalam kelas. Oleh karena itu, seluruh aspek pembelajaran melalui role-playing digali dan dibimbing bagaimana penerapannya di dalam kelas. Oleh karena itu, semua aspek pengajaran melalui role-playing dieksplorasi dan diberikan panduan tentang bagaimana menggunakannya di dalam kelas. Pendidikan karakter tidak hanya diberikan pada mata kuliah pengembangan kepribadian, seperti Agama, Kewarganegaraan atau Pancasila. Kursus Bahasa Inggris juga dapat memuat kegiatan yang dapat meningkatkan nilai karakter, salah satunya dapat mengintegrasikan metode role playing. Dalam menetapkan tujuan pembelajaran, sangat penting membekali siswa dengan berbagai kegiatan pembelajaran yang dapat membangun karakter.

Abstract

Paraphrasing has two main purposes, namely to avoid plagiarism and to make ideas easier to understand. The purpose of this research is to answer the following questions: 1. How are the paraphrasing results of the students of the Nursing Study Program STIK Bina Husada Palembang?, and 2. What are their perceptions of paraphrasing?. This research was conducted on May 27th, 2023, out of 38 students registered, only 34 students from the Nursing Science Study Program STIK Bina Husada Palembang participated in this research The students were asked to paraphrase a text containing 119 words entitled "Why is the millennial generation vulnerable to smartphone addiction?" the pparticipants were first shown the text and asked to read to gain understanding, then they were asked to paraphrase the paragraph. The results of this study indicated that the students of the Nursing Study Program at STIK Bina Husada Palembang are divided into 2 groups, namely: those who successfully paraphrase and those who fail, however, the limitations of the study should be noticed for further research. The results of this study have implications for teaching, bearing in mind that there are still students who avoid changing words and sentence structures when paraphrasing, this is due to limited vocabulary in making effective paraphrasing
