Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the realization of English language teaching strategies for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) students, especially in terms of the implementation of teaching strategies. This study took place at SMPLB of Curup, Bengkulu, Indonesia. There was only one English teacher who taught ASD students, and the teacher was involved as the subject of this study. The data were garnered form interviews and document analysis. The data were further analyzed using an interactive model extending to data collection, data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the teacher used three strategies in teaching children with autism, namely developing oral language comprehension, echolalia, and communication skills enhancement through the PECS method. In addition, the teacher also modified the form of the strategy according to the needs of students with autism.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan strategi belajar yang digunakan oleh para pelajar saat mempelajari bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini juga menginvestigasi bagaimana dan mengapa para pelajar mengimplementasikan stategi-strategi tertentu dalam belajar. Kuisioner dan wawancara digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dengan sampel yang dipilih secara purposive berdasarkan analisis dari pengajar dan juga penilaian. Hasilnya, pelajar berprestasi dengan dominan menggunakan compensation strategy dengan alasan utama bahwa strategi tersebut membantu mereka belajar bahasa Inggris dengan lebih baik. Selain itu, para pelajar berprestasi juga menggunakan aspek-aspek tertentu dari setiap jenis strategi belajar bahasa selain compensation strategy.

Abstract

This descriptive study was conducted to investigate the problems faced by Electrical Engineering Department Students of Polytechnic of Raflesia in speaking English in group presentation. 27 students of the second semester were purposefully taken as the sample for they have been involved in some of group presentations since they were still in the first semester. Observation checklist and field note were used to collect the data on students’ problems. The interview then was conducted to those who were evidenced to have English speaking problems seen from the data perceived earlier from observation. The study revealed that the dominant linguistic problem of the students in speaking English was their poor pronunciation. The result of the data analysis showed that it was 16 students (59, 26%) among 27 students who were evidenced to have this pronouncing problem. Meanwhile the major psycholinguistic problem was the students’ anxiety in using the language. It was 15 students (55, 56%) who were admitted to have this problem.

Abstract

ABSTRAK  Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di SMP N 1 Rejang Lebong pada bulan maret 2022. SMP N 1 Rejang Lebong setiap tahunnya mengirim perwakilan siswa-siswinya untuk mengikuti kegiatan Olimpiade Penelitian Siswa Indonesia (OPSI) yang di selenggarakan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset dan Teknologi. Namun pihak sekolah mengalami kendala karena kurangnya pengetahuan siswa-siswi dalam memilih sumber pustaka yang akan digunakan sebagai acuan baik dalam penelitian maupun dalam penulisan karya ilmiah. Objek pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah siswa-siswi yang tergabung dalam kelompok kegiatan Olimpiade Penelitian Siswa Indonesia (OPSI) SMP N 1 Rejang Lebong. Proses pelatihan dapat diselesaikan tepat waktu dan tanpa hambatan serta siswa-siswi anggota kegiatan Olimpiade Penelitian Siswa Indonesia (OPSI) SMP N 1 Rejang Lebong dapat memilih sumber pustaka untuk referensi kegiatan penelitian yang akan di usulkan pada bulan Juni 2022.Kata kunci : Sumber pustaka, OPSI ABSTRACT This service activity is carried out at State Junior Highschool 1 (SMPN 1) Rejang Lebong in March 2022. SMPN 1 Rejang Lebong sends students to take part in the Indonesian Student Research Olympiad (Olimpiade Penelitian Siswa Indonesia - OPSI) organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. However, the school experienced problems due to the lack of knowledge of students in choosing reference sources to be used both in research and writing scientific papers. The object of this community service are students who are members of the OPSI group at SMPN 1 Rejang Lebong. The training process can be completed on time and without obstacles and the students of OPSI SMPN 1 Rejang Lebong can choose reference sources for their research that will be proposed in June 2022.Keywords: Reference source, OPSI

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk mengetahui peningkatan partisipasi berbicara siswa dengan penerapan teknik Index Card Match. Subjek penelitian adalah 30 orang mahasiswa yang kemudian diamati tindakannya pada tiga siklus penelitian tindakan. Setiap siklus terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu perencanaan, tindakan, observasi dan refleksi yang kemudian menemukan hasil bahwa ada peningkatan pada partisipasi siswa setelah teknik index card match dilakukan. Data didapatkan dari lembar observasi dan rekaman video dan terlihat peningkatan partisipasi pada setiap siklus setelah dirangsang dengan teknik index card match.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of Three-step interview technique in improving students’ English-speaking skill. Designed as classroom action research with 31 college students for the research subjects, through pre-test, post-test, observation checklist, and interview, it is found that Three-step interview technique have positive effect and can improve students’ English-speaking skill. Majority of the students show improvement in their speaking skill and indicate that the implementation of Three-step interview technique has made the learning activities become more fun, challenging, and make them become more enthusiastic during the learning. Besides, there are also indications that this technique improves students’ motivations and attitude towards learning English.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to contribute to the role of shared reading in emerging students’ literary experience and their reading motivation. Shared reading replicates the bedtime story experience to the classroom reading activity. It provides enjoyment needed by the early readers. Sharing a big storybook to read along with friends and teacher can also give them a collaborative reading experience. Since the students are directed to read english text, shared reading offers opportunity in which the students start to learn how they read themselves. It is considered to enable them to enjoy and participate in the reading activity. Shared reading is thus as the strategy used in guiding and motivating students to read.
