Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the extent to which students' levels of self-efficacy are correlated with their levels of success in speaking skill assessments of the students of MAN 1 Madiun. The research method used quantitative research. The population in this study are all the eleventh grade students. The sample for this study are students from class XI MIA 2 consists of 22 students. The researcher uses using purposive sampling technique. The researcher uses questionnaires to students to determine the level of students’ self-efficacy and uses speaking test. Pearson Product Moment (r) formula using t-test is used in this research. The results show that the highest score is 95. Meanwhile, the lowest score is 82. The result of the Pearson product moment correlation is.052 with a negative sign. The conclusion that can be drawn from these findings is that there is a negative correlation  between speaking ability and self-efficacy, as well as the results of significance levels above 0.05.This is what causes scores on students to be lacking. Besides self-efficacy, it has a very positive effect on each student. The implication of this research is to describe the correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their performance in speaking skill so the teacher and other researchers can get information related with that.

Abstract

Speaking skills are essential for students in junior high school as they learn English as a second language. The ability to speak in English not only improves academic performance but also prepares students for future academic and professional endeavors. A supportive and deep learning environment and innovative teaching methodologies can help students overcome these obstacles and build confidence in their English ability over time, like an educational game. This research aims to determine the effect of student speaking skills in educational games such as guessing games. This research was conducted in one of the state junior high schools in Madiun. Two classes, namely control and experiment, consisting of 25 students, are compared. The control class is taught using an educational method, and the experimental class uses educational games called guessing games. The researcher used a random sampling technique and quantitative research to analyze the data with the t-test. The result of this research is that educational games' guessing games affect students who are taught with guessing games; the students who are taught with guessing games have a better score than those taught with conventional technique. The teacher should make an innovative learning process with guessing games to increase student speaking skills.

Abstract

A professional teacher must be capable of mastering four basic competences namely pedagogical competence, professional competence, sosial competence, and personal competence. The result of observing and interviewing teachers who involve to the Association of Madrasah Tsanawiah Teachers (MGMP) Madiun showed that many of them still need reinforcement and enrinchment on mastering teaching methods of English. Thus, the programme aimed at increasing the pedagogical competence of teachers involving into the MGMP through having worhshop and training to design the teaching procedures implementing 101-based active, creative, efective, joyful, and innovative learning method (PAIKEM-INOVATIF). The programme was held for 5 months started on February 2014 and finished on June 2014. The result of workshop and training showed that process of understanding and practicing   the metods run well. Some problems arouse during the programme were (1) the teachers still found difficulties on doing variation of teaching, (2) the teachers still feel clumsy on do peer-teaching using themethods, (3) the teachers still found difficulties on implementing some of the trained  methods since the sudents have different learning characterictics. Therefore, it is suggested that the activity should be strengthen by having a programme of Lesson Study.

Abstract

Serat Wulangreh merupakan salah satu karya fenomenal dari Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwana IV. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis nilai pendidikan karakter pada tembang Kinanthi, Sinom dan Girisa dalam Serat Wulangreh, metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif, sampel penelitian diambil masing-masing 5 gatra dari tembang Kinanthi, Sinom, dan Girisa dengan teknik purposive sampling, data dianalisis menggunakan teknik content analysis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tembang Kinanthi, Sinom dan Girisa dalam Serat Wulangreh banyak mengandung nilai pendidikan karakter, antara lain nilai religius, jujur, toleransi, disiplin, kerja keras, kreatif, mandiri, rasa ingin tahu, menghargai prestasi, cinta damai, peduli lingkungan, peduli sosial, dan tanggung jawab. Nilai pendidikan karakter dari ke tiga tembang tersebut didominasi oleh nilai menghargai prestasi. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa nilai pendidikan karakter selaras dengan karakter atau sifat dari tiga tembang tersebut.
