Abstract

Surgical procedures are invasive interventions that often cause anxiety in patients before surgery. Anxiety experienced by patients, if not managed properly, may affect physiological conditions such as increased blood pressure and heart rate, thereby potentially interfering with the implementation of surgical procedures. The goal of the study to determine the application of guided imagery techniques on anxiety levels in preoperative patients. This study used a case study design involving four preoperative patients as respondents. Anxiety levels were measured using the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale before and after the guided imagery intervention, which was conducted for approximately 20 minutes. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing changes in anxiety scores before and after the intervention. The results showed that the average anxiety score before the intervention was 18, which was categorized as moderate anxiety. After the guided imagery technique was applied, the average anxiety score decreased to 13.5, which was categorized as mild anxiety. All respondents experienced a decrease in anxiety levels after receiving the intervention. Guided imagery techniques can be used as an effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention to help reduce anxiety and improve patients’ psychological readiness before undergoing surgical procedures.

Abstract

This empirical study examines the immediate cardiovascular shifts and neurovascular adaptations induced by autogenic relaxation in hospitalized adult patients diagnosed with essential hypertension. Utilizing a descriptive case approach with a structured pretest and posttest observational design, the research evaluated a participant cohort of five individuals undergoing concurrent pharmacological management. The nonpharmacological mind body intervention involved standardized standalone autogenic relaxation focusing on self induced somatic feelings of warmth and heaviness, administered once daily for twenty minutes across two consecutive days. Hemodynamic metrics were precisely captured using a calibrated manual sphygmomanometer and high sensitivity stethoscope to track immediate fluctuations resulting from minimized sympathetic hyperactivity. Quantitative results demonstrate consistent post intervention decompression, with systolic blood pressure decreasing by ten to fifteen millimeters of mercury and diastolic values dropping by five millimeters of mercury across all subjects. These uniform physiological reductions successfully shifted multiple participants into milder clinical hypertension categories without adverse secondary effects. The findings validate autogenic conditioning as a safe, effective, and reproducible complementary therapy capable of optimizing autonomic stability and enhancing target organ protection within contemporary medical surgical nursing frameworks.

Abstract

Metode: Desain rancangan yang digunakan adalah two group pretest posttest without control group design.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease characterized by elevated blood pressure above normal values and is often accompanied by sleep quality disturbances. Poor sleep quality can worsen hypertension by increasing sympathetic nervous system activity and physiological stress. Therefore, in addition to pharmacological therapy, safe, easy-to-apply, and effective non-pharmacological interventions are needed to improve sleep quality in hypertensive patients. One such non-pharmacological intervention is murottal therapy, which involves listening to recitations of the Holy Qur’an and provides relaxation and psychological calmness. This study aimed to determine the effect of murottal therapy on sleep quality in hypertensive patients at Kajen Regional Hospital, Pekalongan Regency. The research method used was a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach without a control group. The study subjects consisted of five patients who met the inclusion criteria. Sleep quality was measured before and after the intervention using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The murottal therapy intervention involved listening to the recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman for 15–30 minutes per day for three consecutive days. The results showed that all respondents experienced a decrease in PSQI scores, indicating an improvement in sleep quality after receiving murottal therapy. Murottal therapy was proven to have a positive effect as a non-pharmacological complementary therapy for hypertensive patients with sleep quality disturbances

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality among cancer patients in a clinical setting. A quantitative empirical approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 35 respondents selected through consecutive sampling. Anxiety was measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), while sleep quality was assessed using the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS). The findings revealed that most patients experienced moderate to severe anxiety and mild to moderate insomnia. Bivariate analysis using Spearman Rank correlation demonstrated a very strong and statistically significant positive relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality (ρ = 0.937; p < 0.05). Higher anxiety levels were consistently associated with poorer sleep quality. This relationship can be explained through biopsychosocial mechanisms, including sympathetic nervous system activation and stress-related hormonal changes that disrupt sleep regulation. These findings highlight the importance of integrating psychological assessment and sleep evaluation into routine cancer care. Comprehensive interventions, including psychosocial support, patient education, and relaxation techniques, are recommended to improve overall patient well-being and clinical outcomes.
