Abstract

This study aims to describe Limboto Lake's condition based on the spatial-temporal abundance of phytoplankton and the presence of harmful algae species. Sampling was conducted in February, March, and April 2018 at six stations. The phytoplankton found in Limboto Lake consisted of 7 divisions from 80 species, namely Chlorophyta (35 species), Euglenophyta (17 species), Bacillarophyta (13 species), Cyanophyta (7 species), Cryptophyta (4 species), Dinophyta (3 species) and Chyrosphyta (1 species). The results of the phytoplankton distribution analysis in Limboto Lake varied on average among stations as well as observation times. The results show that the average of phytoplankton abundance at stations 1, stations 2, stations 3, and stations 4 categorized as medium polluted waters with 4,903 ind/L, 5,000 ind/ L, 9,418 ind/L, and 10,049 ind/L, respectively. The abundance at station five is included in the lightly polluted category with an average phytoplankton abundance of 1,541 ind/L, while station 6 is in the heavily polluted category with the average value of 20,894 ind/L. Species that can be used as indicator species for pollution are those with the highest abundance value, namely Microcystis sp., which indicates that Limboto Lake contains high nitrate and phosphate.

Abstract

The coast of Kramat Village is part of the mangrove distribution area in the Tomini Bay area. Environmental pressures due to community activities such as area conversion and coastal waste are suspected of degrading the mangrove area in Kramat Village. The condition is feared to impact gastropods as an essential component of the mangrove ecosystem. This research aimed to observe species richness, diversity, and the abundance of mangrove gastropods on the coast of Kramat Village, Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province. The study was conducted by surveying the gastropod population using a 5x5 m quadrant established on three different line transects (LT) based on the width of the mangrove belt. The study's results showed that the number of gastropod species in the mangrove ecosystem was 14, representing members of 8 families. The highest abundance was found in LT-1 with the smallest mangrove belt width, namely Terebralia sulcata (14,800 ind.ha-1) for species level and Potamididae (20,600 ind.ha-1) for family level. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index values for all species ranged from 1.517 to 2.177. Morisita's dispersion index values ranged from 0.97-14.00 for the species level and 0.97-4.67 for the family level. Although the number of gastropod species is quite large, the diversity index value is categorized as a medium, with distribution clumped. This study shows the ecological role of the mangrove area of Kramat Village to support biodiversity and as a habitat for gastropods needed for the management of coastal areas in Tomini Bay.

Abstract

Dulangeya Village is one of the villages in the Coastal District of Botumoito, Boalemo Regency. One of the Village's potentials in the fisheries sector is reef fish (stones) which are sold in fresh form or traditionally processed into hanging dried fish. Traditional drying techniques have weaknesses, especially in terms of product unhygienicity. This community service activity aims to improve the skills of local communities by providing education and training on the process of processing smoked fish through the application of a cabinet model smokehouse and vacuum plastic packaging. This activity was carried out in Dulangeya Village, Botumoito District, Boalemo Regency for 45 days. The training was carried out by providing socialization and education related to processed smoked fish products, followed by practical activities for making smoked fish and packaging. The target group for the activity is the fishermen's wives in Dulangeya Village. Through this activity, the people of Dulangeya Village gained additional skills in making smoked rock fish products typical of Dulangeya. Communities are introduced and given education regarding the smoking process using closed cabinet model smokehouses as an effort to optimize the utilization of trapped heat and smoke. In addition, the closed cabinet construction model is also intended to minimize product direct contact with pollutant sources. The community was also trained and improved their skills in terms of product packaging using vacuum sealers and vacuum plastic as well as packaging labeling, so that smoked rock fish products were produced which were hygienic and attractive. With this activity, the activity partner community has been able to make hygienic smoked rock fish products with vacuum plastic packaging and attractive packaging labels as an innovative product that is expected to improve the local community's economy.
