Abstract

Background of Study: Saliva is a complex oral fluid that has an important role associated with biological processes in the oral cavity. Age changes are known to have an effect on decreasing saliva production. Likewise with systemic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Chemical prevention of acid imbalance in the saliva is conducted by rinsing using a siwak extract solution. Chemical content in siwak extract can increase the secretion in the saliva in the oral cavity because it has a bactericidal effect that will prevent acid production from oral bacteria. Objective of Study: To determine the difference of rinsing by using siwal extract solution on salivary secretion of the oral cavity of elderly people who have hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and do not have systemic diseases. Method: This study is pre-experiment with one group pretest and post-test design. The sample of the study was elderly people in a social housing. Also, the research used paired t-test. Result: This study shows the average change in hypertension 1.185 mL/5minute with probability value 0.000, diabates mellitus 1,358mL/5minute with probability value 0.000, does not have systemic disease 1.057 mL/5minute with probability value 0,000 <0,05 meaning there is difference. Conclusion: The difference of mouth washing of 25% extract of siwak solution to elderly salivary secretion in hypertension, diabetes mellitus and did not have systemic disease in social house of tresna werdha gau mabaji gowa.

Abstract

The Community Partnership Program (PKM) partners are SDN 96 Mannanti, Tellu Limpoe, Sinjai. The problem is: (1) The exchange rate of the rupiah against the US dollar is weakening which affects health costs (2) The high prevalence of dental caries which ranks fifth in the 10 most diseases (Data from the Mannanti Puskesmas Tellu Limpoe in 2017) (3). There is only one dentist in Mannanti village who only practices at the puskesmas. (4) Medical equipment especially dentistry tools at Mannanti puskesmas is limited. (5) Access to public transportation goes to Sinjai Hospital which is difficult and far enough (± 30 km distance and 60 minutes). (6) Public perception that dental examinations are expensive is also one of the reasons why someone is lazy to go to the dentist. The solutions offered from the PKM activities are: (a) Changing people's mindset from curative treatment shifting to promotive and preventive treatment so that the funds used are more minimum; (b) Implementation of SIKAPAMASE (SIkat gigi PAgi bersaMA di SEkolah) as an economical dental caries prevention program; (c) Application of topical fluor to students as an additional preventive measure to prevent cavities; (d) Guidance of teachers and parents as mediators of dental and oral health information to the community; (e) Healthy smile tooth ambassador competition for elementary students. The expected targets of the PKM activities are: (1) The caries status of SDN 96 Mannanti students reduced by 50% measured through the DMF-T index (def-t) measured through the results of pre-test and post-test activities; (2) Increasing students' knowledge about how to maintain dental health is measured through the results of pre-test and post-test activities; (3) Our program products are in the form of human resources, it is expected that SDN 96 students can be mediators of dental and oral health information in the family, school and home environment; (4) Caries preventive guidance booklet (5) Ambassador of healthy teeth. (6) SIKAPAMASE (SIkat gigi PAgi bersaMA di SEkolah) as an innovative program at the Mannanti health center that is carried out continuously.

Abstract

Background: Alginate impression material has a weakness about its dimensional stability being rapidly changing. Some na-tural ingredients contain polysaccharides namely amylose and amylopectin used to modify it. Comparison of amylose and ami-lopectin affects the degree of starch gelatinization; the greater the amylopectin content, the starch gel will be wetter, stickier and absorb less water. Objective: To determine the effect of the addition of cassava starch and sago starch to the dimensional stability of alginate impression. Method: Using a true experimental laboratory method with a cross-sectional design. Result: Based on the 1-way Anova test, the p-value was 0,000; smaller than 0.05. According to the post hoc multiple comparison test, the average difference between alginate plus cassava starch with controls was 0.35500, while alginate plus sago starch with controls was 0.75500. Conclusion: There is a significant change between the addition of cassava starch and sago starch to the dimen-sional stability of the alginate impression.
