Abstract

This study was done to depict Project Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with science science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), to enhance elementary school students’ science literation. Theme used in this study was air pollution. Research method was quasi experimental with The Matching-Only Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. It was conducted in 56 seventh graders of SMP Islam Terpadu, Sukabumi in which 28 students were in experiment class, and 28 students were in control class. Data is collected by pretest and posttest of sciences literacy and students questionaire about PjBL STEM. Based on the data analysis, it was known that the N-Gain averages of sciences literacy were 0,31 in experiment class as middle category and 0,22 in control class as low category. T-test showed that scientific literacy enhancemen in experimental class was more significant than in control class. General students’ reponses showed that almost all students was excited to PjBL STEM learning, got impressive experiences during the learning and boost their learning motivation and interest.

Abstract

This study aims to know the quality of argumentation in sosiosaintific issues discussion "E. sakazakii Polemic" through a weblog. The research method was descriptive. The result showed the quality of argument socially were able to achieve level five, but individually were able to achieve an average score of 3. Development framework ‘scaffolding’ required to maintain the quality of argumentation is socially and to improve the quality of arguments individually.

Abstract

The main goal of the present research was to analyze the prospective biology teachers’ mental model about virus through the conduction of drawing-writing test on a modified model-based learning in a Microbiology course. The research method was quasi-experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. A total of eighty-one fifth-semester students separated into experiment and control group participated in the current study. The experiment class participated in a microbiology course-based mental model, in which the course program was developed by combining the constructivism learning stages and model-based learning framework featured with mental model, while the control class experienced course with conventional methods. A mental model test of drawing-writing of structure of viruses was employed as the main research instrument. The instrument also was featured with a rubric that is used to indicate the five levels of student’s mental model. The main analysis was done through descriptive interpretation based on the frequency of higher levels of mental model showed by students in the different classes. Based on the results, there was no difference between students in experiment and control class in the pretest, which showed that most of the students in both class were concentrated in not higher than level D3 and W3 (partially correct drawing/writing). However, after an intervention, the experiment class showed a dramatically increase in the frequency of students mental model that belong to level D5/W5 (completely correct and complete drawing/writing), while the control group was found stagnant concentrated in the level D3/W3. The results are discussed with the connection to the advantages of Microbiology course-based mental model in student’s conceptual change and the use of drawing-writing test in capturing changes in student’s mental model about scientific concepts.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the revenue optimization of farmer family with ratio of the most ideal farm scale in the integration of Pasundan cattle and paddy farm, and to analyze the most leveraging production factor towards the family revenue. The respondents were 94 farmers who had integrated farming between cattle and paddy. This research used survey method in four regions purposively based on Pasundan cattle centre. Data were analyzed with linear programming and production function of Cobb Douglass. The results were: (1) max Z = -(4,584,841x1+1574260 (x2+x3)) + (6,000,000jx1+4000000 (j x2 +j x3 )); this function consist of constraints: labour, transfer products between cattle and paddy farm, transfer fertilizer, capital of paddy farming in planting season-I and season-II. (2) Yintegration = 15,721,319.75 – 72.541 land – 1.317 fertilizer + 4.667 seeds + 487765.94 farminglabour + 6339170.199 cattlevalue – 935.559 feed + 162618.999 cattlelabour. There were some conclusions: First, the integration of Pasundan cattle and paddy farming produced the optimum family revenue/year, with ratio of 6.02 animal unit and 0.5 ha of paddy farming; Second, the production factor of agricultural land, labour, seeds, feed and capital (cattle) were explained (R2=87.66%) toward the integration revenue; Third, the variable which has the contribution to leverage the revenue was the capital of cattle (81.52%).

Abstract

This study investigates the critical role of Human Resource Management (HRM) in enhancing community empowerment initiatives within rural settings. By employing a qualitative methodology, the research explores various HRM strategies implemented in selected rural communities, focusing on their effectiveness in fostering local capacity building and sustainable development. Through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with community stakeholders, the study identifies key HRM practices that contribute to improved socio-economic outcomes. The findings reveal that tailored HRM interventions significantly enhance skills development, promote active community participation, and facilitate better resource management. Furthermore, this research highlights the importance of integrating local knowledge and cultural contexts into HRM practices to ensure their relevance and effectiveness. The implications of these findings suggest that optimizing HRM can lead to more successful community empowerment programs, ultimately contributing to enhanced quality of life for rural populations.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the forms of bureaucratic pathology and public service at the sub-district office in Takalar Regency and to identify and analyze efforts to overcome the pathology of bureaucracy and public services at the sub-district level of Takalar Regency. In this study using a qualitative descriptive research type, while collecting data using observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and literature study. The research results show that in general the performance of the bureaucracy in carrying out public services at the sub-district level in Takalar Regency is considered not optimal. There is even an information gap in the form of the public not knowing the procedures and procedures for service, as well as the responsiveness of the apparatus to various complaints experienced by service users.

Abstract

Illocutionary act is one type of speech acts which refers to the attempt to accomplish some communicative purpose and the extra meaning of the utterance produced on the basis of its literal meaning. This paper investigated the illocutionary act in talk show used by Oprah Winfrey and J.K Rowling. The focus of this paper is to explore the five types of illocutionary act used in utterances of Oprah Winfrey and J.K Rowling. Those five types are representative (reporting, stating, and concluding), directive (ordering, asking and requesting), commissive (offering, promising, and pledging), expressive (praising, thanking, and apologizing), and declarative (deciding). The writer used qualitative method. To collect the data, the writer transcribed the utterances of talk show and analyzed the context and classifications of illocutionary act by using discourse analysis approach. The illocutionary act used by Oprah Winfrey and J.K Rowling in talk show were analyzed based on the theory of Searle (1969). The findings showed that the utterances in talk show often use questions from Winfrey as the interviewer while Rowling as the interviewee produced the clear utterances. Findings exemplified the utterances such as thank you, pretty good, and I couldn’t stop that can be categorized as thanking in representative, praising in expressive, and deciding in declarative.
