The subject of the study was a collection of students' personal writing documents of recount texts about their lives experience. The students' recount texts were analyzed by referring to Betty S. Azar classification and Richard's theory on sources of errors. The findings showed that the total number of error is 436. Two frequent types of grammatical errors were Verb Tense and Word Choice. The major sources of error were Intralingual Error, Interference Error and Developmental Error respectively. Furthermore, the findings suggest that it is necessary for EFL teachers to apply appropriate techniques and strategies in teaching recount texts, which focus on past tense and language features of the text in order to reduce the possible errors to be made by the students.

Abstract

This paper discuss how Islamic and customary laws regulate environmental management in Aceh. A qualitative approach was used by implementing a normative juridical method. First, the data from various literature or references and documents were gathered related to the topic. It was then qualitatively analysed using the concept, constitutional and historical approaches, and Islamic environmental management regulations. According to the study's findings, the Islamic Shari'a and Aceh Customary Law cannot be separated, citing the hadith Maja "Adat ngon hukom lagee zat ngon sifeut." All customary law-based environmental management adheres to Islamic law. In the Prophet's hadith, whoever cut the sidr tree will go to hell. Under the customary law of Aceh, it is prohibited to cut trees tualang, kemuning, ketapang, etc in the forest. Except with Keujreun's permission. According to Aceh Customary Law, anyone who keeps livestock must be careful to keep them restrictions in opening land in a specific location, such as a spring source. All humans have the legal status of muhtaram in Islamic Law, not in an honourable sense. Still, their existence must be protected as living beings as well as lifeless beings, and all must be protected by their existence rights.

Abstract

Teachers’ practices and beliefs about instructional media are crucial in teaching English, as they can motivate students’ enthusiasm if teachers use them engagingly. Despite their importance, teachers’ practices and beliefs regarding instructional media in Islamic secondary schools in Indonesia have received less attention. The purpose of this qualitative study was to discover how teachers used instructional media and their beliefs towards employing it to teach English. We gathered information from two female English teachers at selected Islamic junior high schools in Aceh, Indonesia through observations and interviews. The results revealed that teachers utilized photos, whiteboards, overhead projectors, and flashcards to teach English. In their English foreign language classrooms, they used instructional media to facilitate students’ learning by explaining the materials, and giving exercises. Teachers believed that instructional media could help boost students’ interest, facilitate the learning process, and promote the achievement of teaching and learning objectives. They specified that curriculum and topic lessons are essential factors to consider when selecting instructional media for teaching English. They alleged that students’ feedback, participation in seminars or workshops, self-discovery, and new curricula could all have an impact on their beliefs. Future research should look into potentially more comprehensive accounts of teachers’ practices and beliefs about instructional media in varied secondary school contexts as well as how engaged students in more interactive classroom activities.

Abstract

Higher education actually plays a role in strengthening national insight and nationalism in an academic framework as evidenced by efforts to prevent radicalism. This study examines the efforts of universities in preventing several universities in Aceh, namely Syiah Kuala University, Ar-Raniry State Islamic University, Malikussaleh University, Teuku Umar University and Muhammadiyah Aceh University. This research uses empirical legal methods with an approach to constitutional law and Islamic law. The data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews and literature studies. The results of this study show that radicalism is not found in higher education institutions in Aceh. Internal and external factors can influence the difficulty of finding radicalism. Internal factors include a diverse understanding of university elements about radicalism and a lack of religious understanding among students and leaders. The external factor is that there is no regulation that provides indicators of radicalism and students joining various organizations, and it is difficult to distinguish which ones are radical. However, universities have made efforts to prevent radicalism, namely; prevent lecturers and students from having extreme ideologies, strengthen the concept of nationalism and nationality and encourage students to participate in non-academic activities. In the context of constitutional law, this effort is a strategic policy carried out by the state through universities to create stability and peace. In addition, in the context of Islamic law, these efforts are in line with the objectives of Sharia, namely preventing harm and creating the benefit of the nation and state.

Abstract

Early marriage completely undermines children's human rights. Previous studies have shown that child marriage is inextricably linked to various adverse impacts, from violated children's rights to obtain education and access to health services to intergenerational poverty. Indonesia is in the 8th highest rate of early childhood marriages internationally and is ranked 2nd in ASEAN. This phenomenon has put Indonesia in the spotlight of The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). This research, which relies on interviews and observations from various related documents, aims to analyze the role implemented by UNICEF in tackling the problem of child marriage in Indonesia for the 2017-2020 period. The theories and concepts applied are the theory of international organizations, role theory, and the concept of child marriage. Furthermore, the author used data analysis model according to Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which consists of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The final results of this study reveal that UNICEF is playing their role in providing information on child marriage, advocating for policies, introducing innovations to address challenges, and supplying technical assistance to improve the quality of social services. In addition, UNICEF partners with governments to ensure that resources are employed to meet the needs of children, create spaces for children to be involved in the development process and strengthen collaboration for child's interests. Keywords: UNICEF; child marriage; international organizations; role theory.
