Abstract

AbstractInformation of genetic variability and heritability of sorghum stem are very important for lodging-tolerant breeding program. Genotypic correlation of stem morphological character to lodging tolerance is very useful in selection program. The objectives of this experiment were to observe variability and heritability of stem character and to determine stem character that correlate with lodging tolerance. Field experiment was carried out in experimental station of Agriculture Faculty Universitas Padjadjaran. The results showed that all stem characters showed wide genetic variability except stem density and stem diameter. Low and medium heritability were showed also by stem density and stem diameter. Other stem characters showed high estimation of heritability value. Stem elasticity and number of inter-node showed negative correlation to oblique angles of stem. Other stem characters had no correlation with lodging tolerance. Keywords: genotypic correlation, heritability, lodging, sorghum, variability

Abstract

One of the flagship Creating Share Value (CSV) programs by PT Biofarma in 2021 is the Re-Grass & Sustainability Village program. First, this program has been able to meet the demand for fodder for horses, which is one of the input rows in the production process at PT. Biofarma and also for the farming community around PT Biofarma’s operations. Even the fostered community is able to supply the needs of green fodder for several breeders in other areas through fermentation activities (silage) and pellet feed. Second, the CSR program to build animal feed security also received MURI records for productivity and high protein content. Third, the results of the evaluation by calculating the value of Social Return on Investment (SROI) show the value of Rp. 7,37. Based on the indicators, there are questions about what kind of communication was built into the program so that it was able to achieve a high level of success. Research with qualitative methods was conducted to answer the questions. The results of the research show that the communication activities carried out include the integration and coordination of various channels and sources of information, designing and implementing various communication techniques, and utilizing the nature and characteristics of communicators according to their respective positions. Implementation of information diffusion of green fodder is also supported by facilities that can simplify and reduce the risk of loss to the target group in adopting innovations.

Abstract

Abstract

Jembrana disease is one of the important infectious diseases affecting bali cattle and may cause economic losses for farmers due to decreased productivity, treatment costs, and livestock mortality. Farmers’ limited knowledge of clinical symptoms, transmission routes, risk factors, and preventive measures remains one of the challenges in controlling this disease at the smallholder farming level. This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and awareness of Jembrana disease in Bali cattle in Alebo Village, Konda District, South Konawe Regency. The activity was conducted on November 24, 2025, at the Alebo Village Hall and involved 40 participants, consisting of the village head, village officials, and members of the Sumber Rejeki Livestock Farmers Group. The method used in this activity included direct education, discussion, question-and-answer sessions, and evaluation of participants’ understanding. The materials delivered covered an introduction to Jembrana disease, clinical symptoms, transmission routes, risk factors, barn biosecurity, vektor control, quarantine of newly introduced cattle, case reporting, and the importance of vaccination. The results showed that participants were enthusiastic in attending the activity and gained a better understanding of Jembrana disease prevention. This educational activity encouraged farmers to independently implement preventive measures, such as maintaining barn hygiene, controlling blood-sucking insects, separating sick animals, and coordinating with animal health officers. Therefore, this educational activity plays an important role in improving farmers’ capacity to prevent the spread of Jembrana disease in Bali cattle.
