Abstract

Indonesian reenactors imitate the characteristics of the troops during the independence war. It becomes a euphoric event in commemorating the battles and history learning activity. The activity itself is perceived as the source of history learning when it is creatively crafted to be a media content and uploaded in social media. It is a kind of excavation towards the history of independence war from the alternative perspective, which has never been disclosed before. The reenactors narrate the perspective of the history of Indonesia independence war as, what is interpreted in this writing, the articulation of hegemony counter. It becomes an example of the operationalization theory of Cox and Schilthuis inspired by Antonio Gramsci. It is a kind of expression of resistance towards the State system and politics from the intellectual concept. Resistance using the history education as the subject becomes a kind of hegemony counter done by society groups which are not included in marginalized society. This paper uses the method of library research, observation and visual analysis interview using the Barthesian semiology perspective.

Abstract

The development of digital world technology is increasingly popular today, which causes teenagers to be faced with challenges and temptations to enjoy entertainment that no longer prioritizes worship and spiritual discipline. One of the spiritual disciplines is to do devotional time to help Christian youth build positive behavior in accordance with the teachings of the Bible. However, Christian teenagers find it difficult to do devotional time regularly and often feel bored when doing devotional time. This design was made to interest Christian teenagers to do devotional time and encourage them to be able to apply it regularly. This design uses research methods with a qualitative perspective, with interview and observation data collection techniques. Collecting data on devotional time, the behavior of Christian youth in Indonesia, the use of Instagram social media, and illustration techniques as a media approach. The illustration style uses cartoon style to interest Christian youth. The media approach uses post-modernism theory by using new ways to introduce devotional time that is increasingly being forgotten in modern days. The results of the design are in the form of Instagram feeds that provide contents about introduction, invitations, and guidance to do devotional time with character illustrations. Hopefully through this design, Christian teens can start taking their time to do devotional time.

Abstract

The formulation of the problem in this study is used to answer the question of how the uniforms of the Dutch colonial army during the Indonesian war of independence are used by young people today. Contemporary social activities carried out by individuals characterized as colonial soldiers produce signs that are used to re-examine the social stigma about KNIL soldiers. Why is hypersimiotics used in forming opinions that contrast with the mainstream views that have been passed down in Indonesia about the cruel and evil Dutch colonial soldiers towards the Indonesian people? The aim is to explain the contemporary social activities carried out by several young Indonesians who have a history of KNIL soldier ancestry. It explains contemporary social activities through social media posts by these young people in an effort to create retrospective attitudes towards the historical traces of the existence of KNIL soldiers in the Dutch East Indies. The result of this study is to explain the activities carried out by the research subjects as a construction of signs with concepts that refer to the blurring of boundaries between signs, symbols, and reality, where meanings can become ambiguous or have multiple layers of interpretation. The signs are the embodiment of what is understood as signs that go beyond classical semiotics and become a form of hypersimiotics. These new sign constructions produce an articulation that is interpreted as a form of resistance to prevailing conditions. The stigma inherited about the cruel and evil KNIL soldiers will be changed with a positive perspective. A retrospective expression of the KNIL soldiers in their existence during the Dutch colonial era.
