Abstract

Background: Hypertension is often referred to as an unknown killer, because patients do not know that they suffer from hypertension. Many types of complementary therapies that can be applied to treat hypertensive patients, one of which is reflexology Method: This study aims to determine the effect of reflection on blood pressure in hypertensive patients at the Palembang ATFG-8 clinic. The design used in this study was pre-experimental using one group pre-test post-test design. The sample in this study were all hypertensive patients who visited for reflexology in April 17 until May 17, 2018. Determination of the sample using a purposive sampling method totaling 18 subjects. Result: The results obtained were the average age of the sample 54.22 years (± 7.216), systolic blood pressure before 148.44 mmHg (± 4,527) and after reflexology 143.78 mmHg (± 8,633). Diastolic blood pressure before 95.72 mmHg (± 2.886) and after reflexology 91.06 mmHg (± 5,252). The paired sample T test results showed the effect of reflexology on systolic blood pressure (p = 0.026) and diastolic (p = 0.001). Conclusion : There was a decrease in blood pressure statistically, but in substance it was not significant. The next researcher is expected to carry out further research by adding samples and using a control group.

Abstract

Post-stroke rehabilitation often involves improving muscle strength and motor function to enhance the quality of life for stroke survivors. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) has emerged as an effective therapy in this context, particularly in enhancing muscle strength and upper limb function. PNF techniques use specific patterns of movement to activate proprioceptors and improve muscle coordination, which may aid in recovery for stroke patients. Despite its potential, limited research has evaluated its impact on muscle strength improvement, making this study significant.Research Objective: The primary aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) in improving muscle strength in post-stroke patients, with a focus on the upper limbs. The research was conducted to evaluate the pre-test and post-test muscle strength scores, and to analyze the impact of PNF on muscle strength recovery.Research Methods: This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test. A sample of 34 post-stroke patients was selected using purposive sampling from the Merdeka Health Center and 1 Ulu Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. The intervention consisted of PNF exercises conducted three times a week for three months. Muscle strength was measured using a hand dynamometer both before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis using Cohen’s d and paired t-tests was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. Results: The results revealed a significant improvement in muscle strength after PNF intervention. The mean muscle strength score increased from 2.50 ± 0.570 (pre-test) to 3.64 ± 0.570 (post-test), with a difference of 1.14 ± 0.570. Cohen’s d coefficient of 2 indicated a large effect size, confirming substantial improvement. The paired t-test yielded a p-value of 0.001, demonstrating that the changes were statistically significant. Conclusion: Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) significantly improves muscle strength in post-stroke patients, particularly in the upper limbs.

Abstract

Background: Old age is a phase of decline in intellectual and physical abilities, and experiencing structural and functional damage to the large arteries that carry blood away from the heart causes more severe hardening of the arteries and high blood pressure. Hypertension is a condition in which a person experiences an increase in blood pressure above normal which results in an increase in morbidity and mortality The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of giving garlic boiled water on blood pressure in the elderly. Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental research design with a non-equivalent control group design. The sampling technique in this study was non-porbality sampling with a purposive sampling approach. With a sample of 15 respondents in the intervention group and 15 respondents in the control group. Analysis of the data in this study used the Mann Withney U statistical test. Results: Based on the results of the analysis using the Mann Withney U parametric test, the average blood pressure before and after administration of garlic boiled water with p Value = 0.000 for systolic blood pressure and p Value = 0.002 for diastolic blood pressure., where the p value of systolic and diastolic blood pressure is smaller than the value of (0.05) which means that there is a significant effect between the administration of garlic boiled water and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the average blood pressure before and after giving garlic boiled water. The results of this study can be input for the caretaker of the elderly social institution, our hope in overcoming high blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension.

Abstract

Background: : Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer experienced by women worldwide. A diagnosis of breast cancer often has a major psychological impact, especially when the patient is going to undergo surgery. The pre-operative period is a vulnerable period, where many patients experience high anxiety or worry due to fear of medical procedures, surgical results, and physical changes and life afterward. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of progressive muscle relaxation techniques in reducing anxiety levels among breast cancer patients in the preoperative phase. Method : Descriptive case study with a maternity nursing care approach. The case study subjects were 2 people with the same problem, namely anxiety. The location of the case study was at the Muhammadiyah Hospital in Palembang which was carried out in May 2025. Data was taken using the nursing care assessment format and then the data was presented in tabular form. Results : There was a decrease in anxiety in each patient after progressive muscle relaxation was carried out for 10 minutes. Conclusion: Implementation of progressive muscle relaxation nursing is effective in overcoming anxiety in preoperative breast cancer patients.
