Abstract

Introduction: The gradual changes that occur in the elderly, even though it is a normal process, will cause a decrease in their functions and abilities. One of the decreased functions that can affect the quality of life of the elderly is a decrease in cognitive function, where this decrease will have an impact on the emergence of dependency in the elderly due to their inability to carry out daily activities. This article aims to provide an overview of yoga as an effort to improve cognitive function in the elderly. Methods: This article is a literature review with data sources from national and international journals which were searched through the Google Scholar database using the keywords yoga, cognitive function, and elderly. The inclusion criteria were in the form of research articles in Indonesian or English which are available in open-access and full-text journals published in 2012-2022. From the search results, five research articles were found that met the inclusion criteria and contained the theme of yoga as an effort to improve cognitive function in the elderly. The articles were then reviewed to get a precise and comprehensive conclusion about the description of yoga. Results: Yoga can significantly improve cognitive function in the elderly, and can increase the volume of the bilateral hippocampus and the thickness of the left prefrontal cortex which play a role in the learning process, executive function, and memory of the elderly. Conclusion: Yoga has benefits for improving cognitive function in the elderly, so yoga can be considered as a way to maintain cognitive function in the elderly.

Abstract

The coverage of postnatal care program in Surabaya City had declined since 2011–2013 and could not reach the target. This analytic observational study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted during April–May 2015 to analyze the effect of role stress, personality type, and burnout on midwives’ performance towards postnatal care program achievement in Surabaya City. A total sample of 45 midwives was collected from eight primary health care centers in Surabaya City with basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care services. Accidental sampling was used for sample selection. This study indicated that most of the midwives were aged 20–30 years and had an diploma level of education in midwifery. Majority of them were married and were predominantly contract workers with However, majority of them had mild burnout and showed medium performance level. There was no influence of demographic characteristics, role stress, and personality type on burnout, whereas the performance was affected by role stress and personality type. The midwives’ performance was more influenced by personality type than by role stress.

Abstract

Komitmen organisasi dapat diartikan sebagai suatu sikap yang harus dimiliki oleh setiap pegawai untuk menunjukkan loyalitas terhadap organisasi tempat mereka bekerja. Pada dasarnya, komitmen organisasi berkaitan erat dengan aspek-aspek psikologis dalam menerima dan memercayai nilai-nilai dan tujuan organisasi yang muncul sebagai keinginan untuk tetap mempertahankan keanggotaan dalam organisasi. Permasalahan yang sering dikaitkan dengan rendahnya komitmen organisasi adalah pindah kerja (turnover). Masalah ini memiliki dampak yang merugikan organisasi karena dapat menghambat efektivitas dan efisiensi kerja yang selanjutnya akan menurunkan tingkat produktivitas organisasi. Oleh karena itu, untuk mencegah tingginya turnover karyawan, organisasi perlu meningkatkan komitmen organisasi karyawannya. Caranya adalah dengan mengetahui faktorfaktor apa saja yang memengaruhi komitmen organisasi dan bagaimana cara untuk meningkatkan komitmen organisasi tersebut. Artikel ini membahas faktor-faktor apa saja yang memengaruhi komitmen organisasi dan cara-cara yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan komitmen organisasi sebagai upaya untuk menurunkan angka turnover karyawan. Organizational commitment can be interpreted as an attitude that should be owned by every employee to demonstrate loyalty to the organization where they work. Basically, organizational commitment is closely related to the psychological aspects in the acceptance and confidence to the values and objectives of the organization that are presented through the existence of a desire to maintain membership in the organization. Problems which are associated with low organizational commitment is turnover. This problem has an adverse impact on the organization because it can inhibit the effectiveness and efficiency of the work that would lower the level of productivity of the organization. Therefore, to prevent the high employee turnover, the organization should increase the organizational commitment of their employees. It can be done by identifying what factors influencing the organizational commitment of the employees and how to improve the employee’s organizational commitment. This article discusses factors influencing the organizational commitment and ways that can be used to enhance the organizational commitment as efforts to lower the employee turnover rate.

Abstract

Demensia Alzheimer adalah bentuk demensia yang paling umum dan berkontribusi pada 60-70% kasus, serta merupakan kelainan neurodegeneratif ireversibel yang mengakibatkan penurunan fungsi kognitif secara progresif. Kekurangan vitamin D juga berhubungan dengan penyakit neurodegeneratif seperti demensia Alzheimer. Vitamin D juga telah terbukti dapat memperbaiki gambaran neuropatologis, serta berkontribusi terhadap prognosis yang lebih baik. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran tentang manfaat vitamin D pada demensia Alzheimer. Artikel ini bersifat studi literatur dengan sumber data berasal dari jurnal internasional berbahasa Inggris yang pencariannya melalui database pada PubMed, ScienceDirect, Wiley, dan Google Scholar. Berdasarkan temuan, terbukti bahwa vitamin D memberikan manfaat pada penderita demensia Alzheimer. Vitamin D memiliki efek perlindungan yang berkaitan dengan regulasi faktor neurotropik, transmisi saraf, homeostasis kalsium, modulasi proses imun dan inflamasi, proses vaskular dan stres oksidatif, serta dampak langsung pada amiloidogenesis. Pada akhirnya akan meningkatkan fungsi kognitif penderita demensia Alzheimer sehingga vitamin D dapat dipertimbangkan sebagai salah satu pengobatan penunjang pada demensia Alzheimer. Abstract

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) adalah penyakit yang ditandai dengan berkurangnya saturasi oksigen akibat episode berulang dari penghentian atau tidak cukupnya aliran udara di saluran napas bagian atas selama tidur. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) merupakan pengobatan pilihan OSA, namun pengobatan CPAP secara terus menerus tidak dapat ditoleransi oleh semua pasien OSA, dan sering kali tidak cocok untuk kasus OSA ringan, sehingga perlu adanya pendekatan baru dalam penanganan OSA. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran tentang manfaat latihan fisik pada penanganan OSA. Artikel ini bersifat studi literatur dengan sumber data berasal dari jurnal internasional berbahasa Inggris yang terbit pada tahun 2014-2023 yang pencariannya melalui database pada PubMed, ScienceDirect, Springer, dan Google Scholar. Hasilnya didapatkan bahwa latihan fisik secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan tonus otot dilator saluran napas bagian atas, mengurangi akumulasi cairan di leher, meningkatkan fase tidur gelombang lambat, mengurangi berat badan, mengurangi respons inflamasi sistemik, dan memperbaiki fungsi kognitif pada pasien OSA. Kesimpulannya adalah latihan fisik memberikan manfaat pada perbaikan kasus OSA sesuai temuan di atas, sehingga dapat dipertimbangkan sebagai salah satu metode pada penanganan OSA. Abstract

Penurunan kognitif akibat usia berdampak besar bagi kehidupan sehari-hari lansia dan peningkatan risiko kematiannya, serta menimbulkan beban yang besar bagi masyarakat. Domain kognitif merupakan bagian dari jaras penghidu, sehingga fungsi penghidu dapat berhubungan dengan fungsi kognitif. Penelitian analitik observasional dengan rancang bangun potong lintang ini dilakukan pada bulan Mei - Juni 2023 yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara fungsi penghidu dan fungsi kognitif pada lansia. Total sampling digunakan dalam pemilihan sampel dan uji korelasi Spearman dalam menganalisis hubungan. Total sampel sebanyak 89 orang lansia diperoleh dari empat panti werda di Kota Surabaya. Mayoritas lansia dalam penelitian ini adalah perempuan (65,17%) dan berusia 60-74 tahun (47,19%). Lebih dari separuh lansia mengalami anosmia (55,06%) dan beberapa mengalami hiposmia (17,98%). Sebagian besar lansia tidak mengalami gangguan fungsi kognitif (64,04%) dan pada sebagian kecil didapatkan gangguan fungsi kognitif berat (3,37%). Penelitian ini juga menemukan hubungan yang bermakna antara fungsi penghidu dan fungsi kognitif pada lansia (p = 0,000) dengan kekuatan hubungan bersifat sedang dan arah hubungan bernilai positif (r = 0,466) yang menyimpulkan semakin terganggu fungsi penghidu lansia, maka semakin tinggi risiko lansia untuk mengalami gangguan fungsi kognitif sebesar 46,6%. Abstract

Abstract—Commitment is an important and fundamental form in which the concept is widely used in the assessment of individual attitudes in various environments, including universities. In several previous studies, it had been found that there was a relationship between organizational commitment and OCB, where the higher the organizational commitment, the higher the OCB. This analytic observational study used a cross-sectional design to analyze the effect of organizational commitment on employees’ OCB at Surabaya University. A total sample of 190 permanent employees (non-lecturers) was collected from 27 work units at Surabaya University. Quota sampling was used for sample selection. Collecting data using a questionnaire containing the scale of organizational commitment and OCB. This study indicated that majority of employees had moderate organizational commitment and OCB. Simultaneously, multiple linear regression analysis showed that both organizational commitment and demographic characteristics had a significant effect on OCB. Partially, normative commitment and education level had a significant and positive influence on OCB. Employees’ OCB was more influenced by normative commitment than by education level. The results of this study are important as an input for the organization to pay more attention to these two aspects in improving its employees’ OCB.Keywords: employees, organizational citizenship behavior, organizational commitment Abstrak—Komitmen merupakan bentuk yang penting dan mendasar yang mana konsep tersebut banyak digunakan dalam penilaian sikap individu di berbagai lingkungan, termasuk juga lingkungan perguruan tinggi. Dalam beberapa penelitian terdahulu, telah ditemukan adanya hubungan antara komitmen organisasi dan OCB, dimana semakin tinggi komitmen organisasi, maka akan semakin tinggi pula OCB yang dimiliki. Penelitian yang bersifat analitik observasional dengan rancang bangun cross-sectional ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh komitmen organisasi terhadap OCB karyawan di Universitas Surabaya. Sejumlah 190 orang karyawan tetap (non dosen) dari 27 unit kerja di Universitas Surabaya menjadi sampel penelitian ini. Metode pemilihan sampel yang digunakan adalah quota sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner yang berisikan skala komitmen organisasi dan OCB. Mayoritas karyawan memiliki komitmen organisasi dan OCB tingkat sedang. Secara simultan, analisis regresi linier berganda menunjukkan baik komitmen organisasi maupun karakteristik demografi memiliki pengaruh yang bermakna terhadap OCB. Secara parsial, komitmen normatif maupun tingkat pendidikan memiliki pengaruh yang bermakna dan positif terhadap OCB. OCB karyawan lebih dipengaruhi oleh komitmen normatif daripada tingkat pendidikan. Hasil penelitian ini penting sebagai bahan masukan bagi organisasi agar lebih memperhatikan kedua aspek tersebut dalam meningkatkan OCB karyawannya.Kata kunci: karyawan, komitmen organisasi, organizational citizenship behavior

Abstract

Introduction: Dementia can interfere with social and professional activities, reflected in the activities of daily life and the behavior of sufferers. Pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions have been recommended to reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms, but nonpharmacological interventions are considered the preferred treatment alternative. This article aims to provide an overview of holistic interventions as nonpharmacological therapy for dementia. Methods: This article is a literature review using the keywords dementia, cognitive stimulation, reality orientation, reminiscence, and validation therapy through databases at Google Scholar, PubMed, NCBI, Wiley, APA, and the Cochrane Library. Inclusion criteria were in the form of national and international scientific articles and research reports for the last ten years which can be downloaded in full-text papers, and discuss holistic interventions as nonpharmacological therapy in dementia totaling 23 articles and two research reports. Results: Holistic interventions consisting of cognitive stimulation therapy, reality orientation therapy, reminiscence therapy, and validation therapy can improve cognition, quality of life, and psychological well-being; reduce symptoms of depression and behavioral disorders; provide opportunities for social interaction; is non-invasive, safe, cost-effective, and easy to implement; and can be performed in a variety of environments. Conclusion: Holistic intervention is a nonpharmacological therapy that is very beneficial for people with dementia, so it can be considered an alternative treatment option for dementia.

Abstract

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a chronic bone disease caused by reduced bone mass and impaired bone structure. This disease is a widespread and serious public health problem. The most common consequences of this condition are hip and vertebral fractures, which can carry a substantial risk of premature morbidity and mortality. The best strategy to overcome osteoporosis is prevention by identifying risk factors and early diagnosis. This article aims to provide an overview of the influence of body mass index (BMI), age, and gender on bone mineral density (BMD) in the elderly. Methods: This article is a literature review with a search for literature sources using the keywords bone mineral density, body mass index, age, gender, and elderly in the Google Scholar, PubMed, PMC, Researchgate, and Sciencedirect databases. The inclusion criteria are online and full-text scientific articles in the last 10 years in international journals. Results: Several studies have shown that the prevalence of osteoporosis is higher in people with low BMI, but other studies have found a decrease in BMD in obese subjects; with increasing age there is a decrease in osteoblast differentiation and activity, increased osteoclastogenesis and osteoclast activity, and increased bone resorption; females are more susceptible to osteoporosis because decreased estradiol during menopause causes a sharp increase in bone turnover and resorption. Conclusion: There are mixed findings regarding the relationship between BMI and BMD. Age is a factor that needs to be considered because a person's chances of developing osteoporosis will increase with age. Females are more susceptible to osteoporosis.
