Abstract

This study explores the effects of Work Environment, Organizational Culture, and Digital Literacy on Job Satisfaction and Employee Engagement, with Generational Cohort (X, Y, and Z) as a moderating variable. Data were collected through an online questionnaire from 501 respondents representing 135 Industrial Forest Plantation (HTI) companies across Kalimantan. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. The findings indicate that Work Environment, Organizational Culture, and Digital Literacy positively and significantly influence Job Satisfaction (R² = 0.727) and Employee Engagement (R² = 0.802). Job Satisfaction also exerts a strong effect on Employee Engagement (β = 0.734; p < 0.001). However, the moderating role of Generational Cohort was largely insignificant, except for a weak negative moderation on the Digital Literacy → Job Satisfaction path (β = –0.070; p = 0.013), indicating minimal generational differences. These results highlight that organizational factors outweigh generational differences in shaping employees’ work attitudes. Theoretically, this research extends the Job Demands–Resources (JD-R) model by incorporating digitalization dimensions, while practically, it offers insights for HR management to develop inclusive, technology-driven work environments that enhance satisfaction and engagement across generations.

Abstract

Digital leadership has emerged as a strategic capability that enables higher education institutions to navigate digital transformation, technological disruption, and sustainability challenges. Despite the growing body of literature, the intellectual structure and thematic evolution of digital leadership research remain fragmented. This study aims to systematically map the intellectual landscape, research trends, and emerging themes of empirical studies on digital leadership in higher education through a bibliometric approach. Data were retrieved from the Dimensions database, yielding 233 publications published between 2015 and 2025. After applying predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria—restricting the dataset to English-language empirical studies while excluding review articles, conceptual papers, and previous bibliometric studies—a final corpus of 203 publications was analyzed. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, incorporating publication trend analysis, co-authorship analysis, citation and source analysis, bibliographic coupling, and keyword co-occurrence analysis. The findings demonstrate a substantial increase in scholarly output after 2021, reflecting the growing importance of digital leadership within higher education research. Keyword co-occurrence analysis identifies five major research themes: (1) digital leadership and leadership practices, (2) digital competence and individual capabilities, (3) higher education systems, educational technology, and student outcomes, (4) organizational management, performance, and sustainability, and (5) artificial intelligence, crisis management, and strategic adaptation. Citation and collaboration analyses further reveal a globally distributed but conceptually fragmented research landscape characterized by limited international collaboration and uneven knowledge integration. By linking these thematic developments to the education-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), this study demonstrates the strategic role of digital leadership in advancing sustainable higher education governance. Furthermore, the study proposes a structured future research agenda and a set of research propositions to encourage more integrative, interdisciplinary, and outcome-oriented investigations. Overall, this study enriches the understanding of digital leadership by providing a comprehensive bibliometric synthesis that serves as a valuable reference for researchers, policymakers, and higher education leaders seeking to strengthen institutional transformation and sustainability in the digital era

Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between employee/work engagement (EE/WE) and organizational performance by combining bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review (SLR). It aims to map the development of the literature, identify the main thematic structure of the field, and synthesize direct and supporting evidence linking EE/WE to organizational performance. Lens was used as the primary database, while Google Scholar via Publish or Perish served as a supplementary source. After deduplication and title–abstract screening, 266 records were retained for bibliometric mapping. From this corpus, 74 full-text articles were reviewed in detail and classified into 31 core studies, 26 supporting studies, and 17 non-core studies. The bibliometric results reported in this paper focus on publication trends, keyword co-occurrence and thematic evolution, and bibliographic coupling by source. The findings show that the literature has expanded markedly since 2022 and has increasingly shifted from a traditional organizational behavior orientation toward a more strategic and capability-based perspective. The systematic synthesis further indicates that EE/WE is generally associated with stronger organizational outcomes across sectors, although the evidence is stronger for non-financial and multidimensional organizational performance than for purely financial performance. The review also suggests that the engagement–performance relationship frequently operates through indirect pathways such as job satisfaction, commitment, resilience, customer-oriented behavior, and HRM-related processes. Overall, EE/WE emerges as a strategic organizational resource, while the literature still requires more longitudinal, multi-source, organization-level, and financially focused studies
