Abstract

This study tried to applied the Application of Genre Based Approach to students to write advertisements in English class at Universitas Airlangga. This research was classified as qualitative by trying to find information related to lecturers who applied the Genre Based Approach for third-semester students, modifications made by lecturers in the application of the Genre Based Approach, and the results of student work in responding to the implementation of the Genre Based Approach. This research included describe, recorded, and categorized with observation and interview techniques, where the description of data analysis is presented textually. The results showed that the lecturers have implemented all stages in the Genre-Based Approach with some modifications that are tailored to the needs of students, then all student works have fulfilled the purpose of an advertisement, namely to promote tourist attractions and attract readers to come and visit these places.

Abstract

In the work environment on the ship, the crew is expected to have a work culture and the ability to communicate using good English to achieve good performance on the ship. The purpose of this study was to determine how positively and significantly the influence of work culture and the ability to communicate using English to the performance of the crew. The method used by distributing questionnaires to respondents, namely crew members with quantitative analysis methods, namely multiple linear regression analysis, t test, F test and determination test so that it can be seen the effect of work culture and the ability to communicate on the performance of the crew. The results obtained in this study, there is a positive influence between work culture and communication skills on the performance of the crew. In the end, it is hoped that this research will give a reference for shipping companies, ship crews and related parties. Keywords: Work Culture, Communication Ability, Crew Performance.

Abstract

Social interaction and the balance between the rights and obligations of the crew on board would determine whether or not the performance of the crew, especially on foreign-flagged ships. This happens due to several factors in social interaction and the social gap between their rights and obligations. The purpose of this study was to determine how positive and significant the effect of social interaction and the balance between rights and obligations on the performance of the crew. The method used by distributing questioners to respondents, namely ships crew with quantitative analysis by using multiple linier regression analysis, T test, F test and determination test to know the importance of social interaction and the balance between rights and obligations on crew performance. The result obtained in this study is that there is positive impact between social interaction and the balance between the rights and the obligations on the performance of ships crew. In the end, it is hoped that this research will be a reference to government (Disnaker) as policy maker and shipping companies as well as ship crew and other related parties.

Abstract

Crews ships comuunication skills are speaking, writing and using objects, lights and sounds to make contact. It is both for sending or receiving messages between individuals on the ship, communication with other ships and with related parties. The ability of the crew to use and understand codes are expected to achieve the safety of a voyage. This research was conducted to 98 respondents. They are the crews of ships that wer berthing at Tanjung Perak Port of Surabaya. It is expected to know how the implication of the crews’ ability to communicate and to use international codes. It is meant to ensure the safety of the voyages. This research was using quantitative methods with linear regression analysis, t test, f test and test of determination. Therefore, it resulted that there ware a positive and significant influence both partially and jointly between the ability to communicate and the use of international codes on the safety of a voyage. The ability to communicate with the crew especially the ability in communication using English and understanding in the use of international codes is implicated in the safety of a voyage.Keywords : Communication skills, Codes, Safety of a voyageKemampuan komunikasi awak kapal baik secara lesan, tulisan,menggunakan sosok benda,cahaya dan bunyi untuk berinteraksi baik mengirim atau menerima pesan baik antar individu di kapal,komunikasi dengan kapal lain maupun dengan pihak – pihak terkait dan kemampuan awak kapal dalam menggunakan dan memahami penggunaan kode isyarat diharapkan dapat mencapai keselamatan pelayaran. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan responden dengan sejumlah 98 ( Sembilan puluh delapan ) awak kapal yang kapalnya sedang berada di Pelabuhan Tanjung Perak Surabaya untuk mengetahui implikasi kemampuan berkomunikasi awak kapal dan penggunaan kode isyarat internasional supaya tercapai peningkatan keselamatan pelayaran.Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode kuantitatif yaitu dengan analisis regresi linier , uji t,uji f dan uji determinasi.Dari penelitian diperoleh bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan baik secara partial maupun bersama -sama antara kemampuan berkomunikasi dan penggunaan kode isyarat internasional terhadap keselamatan pelayaran .Kemampuan berkomunikasi awak kapal terutama kemampuan dalam komunikasi berbahasa inggris dan pemahaman dalam penggunaan kode isyrat internasional berimplikasi terhadap keselamatan pelayaranKata kunci : Kemampuan berkomunikasi, Kode isyarat, Keselamatan pelayaran

Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 berdampak pada semua bidang, termasuk di bidang pendidikan. Hal ini juga dialami oleh taruna pelayaran di Fakultas Vokasi Pelayaran Universitas Hang Tuah Surabaya terkhusus bagi taruna prodi Teknologi Rekayasa Operasi Kapal. Para taruna yang sebelum pandemi dapat melakukan praktek pada ruang bridge simulator dimana mereka dapat berpraktik untuk prosedur menjalankan kapal dan melakukan komunikasi yang efisien ketika berlayar mengalami keterbatasan karena pada saat pandemi adanya larangan untuk berkumpul demi alasan kesehatan. Dari fenomena ini yang menjadi dasar untuk melalukan penelitian terkait kebutuhan menggunakan bridge simulator untuk menyiapkan taruna yang memiliki kompetensi untuk menjamin keselamatan pelayaran. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif dengan analisa yang menggambarkan hubungan antara variabel dalam penelitian dengan menggunakan analisis regresi linier. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara penggunaan bridge simulator dan komunikasi terhadap keselamatan pelayaran pada era new normal.

Abstract

SMK Pelayaran Brajaguna merupakan sebuah sekolah yang berada di kabupaten Bangkalan. SMK Pelayaran Brajaguna Bangkalan memperoleh Approval dari Kementerian Perhubungan untuk Diklat Pembentukan Ahli Nautika Tingkat IV. Sekolah Pelayaran disebagian orang mengganggap bahwa sekolah tersebut adalah sekolah yang mahal dan membutuhkan waktu yang tidak sebentar serta membutuhkan usaha yang lebih untuk menyelesaikan studinya. Hal ini dikarenakan untuk lulus dari sekolah pelayaran, siswa diwajibkan menempuh beberapa tahap sebelum mendapatkan ijazah dan sertifikat dari perubungan laut. Hasil dari pengabdian masyarakat ini dapat ditarik simpulan bahwa kegiatan pemberian bimbingan karir sebagai strategi dan peluang lulusan SMK Pelayaran yang dilaksanakan di SMK Pelayaran Brajaguna Bangkalan Madura ini memberikan hasil yang positif. Hal tersebut tampak pada antusias taruna setelah pelatihan ini dilaksanakan, mereka lebih mulai percaya diri untuk melaksanakan studi lanjut maupun menulis surat lamaran kerja yang pada awalnya mereka saat diminta untuk menulis surat lamaran kerja ataupun wawancara terlihat ragu dan tidak percaya diri.

Abstract

Abstract: Genre Based Approach is known as an approcah which focuses on the function of the text. One skill that needs concerning in this study is writing because students sometimes found difficulties in writing due to lack of knowledge of the function of the text and the structure of the text. Through good knowledge of the text function piror writing, it will help the students write easily. This study attempts to investigate the application of Genre Based Approcah to tourism students for writing advertisement in English Class in Vocational Faculty of Airlangga University. It tries to find information concerning on the lecturer implementing the Genre Based Approach for third semester students, the modification done by the lecturer in the implementation of Genre Based Approach, and the students’ work in response to the implementation of Genre Absed Approcah. Qualitative research is conducted in this study which involves the description, recording, and interpretation of condition that existed at that time. The data collection techniques were derived from observation and interview. Then, the analysis of the data was conducted through categorization, data display and drawing conclusion. The descriptions of the data analysis were presented textually. The results obtained from this study indicate several things. First, the lecturer has already implemented all stages in Genre Based Approcah with some modification that suitable with the students need. Second, the students’ work has already met the purpose of advertisement that is to promote the tourism place and attract the reader to come and visit the place.    Keywords: Genre Based Approach, Writing Skill, Students’ work.   Abstrak: Genre Based Approach dikenal sebagai pendekatan yang menitikberatkan pada fungsi teks. Salah satu keterampilan yang perlu diperhatikan dalam penelitian ini adalah menulis, karena mahasiswa terkadang mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis karena kurangnya pengetahuan tentang fungsi teks dan struktur teks. Dengan pengetahuan yang baik tentang fungsi teks tulisan sebelum menulis akan membantu mahasiswa dalam menulis dengan mudah. Penelitian ini mencoba untuk mengetahui penerapan Genre Based Approach pada mahasiswa pariwisata untuk menulis iklan di Kelas Bahasa Inggris di Fakultas Vokasi Universitas Airlangga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari informasi mengenai dosen yang menerapkan Genre Based Approach untuk mahasiswa semester III, modifikasi yang dilakukan dosen dalam penerapan Genre Based Approach, dan hasil karya mahasiswa dalam menyikapi penerapan Genre Based Approach. Penelitian kualitatif dilakukan dalam penelitian ini yang melibatkan deskripsi, pencatatan, dan interpretasi terhadap kondisi yang ada pada saat itu. Teknik pengumpulan data diperoleh dari observasi dan wawancara. Kemudian, analisis data dilakukan melalui kategorisasi, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Deskripsi analisis data disajikan secara tekstual. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini menunjukkan beberapa hal. Pertama, dosen sudah menerapkan semua tahapan dalam Genre Based Approach dengan beberapa modifikasi yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa. Kedua, karya siswa sudah memenuhi tujuan periklanan yaitu mempromosikan tempat wisata dan menarik minat pembaca untuk datang dan berkunjung ke tempat tersebut.   Kata Kunci : Genre Based Approach, Keterampilan Menulis, Karya Siswa.

Abstract

Adolesencents aged 18 and above in Keputih Timur Baru Urban Village Surabaya face challenges in the form of negative environmental exposure, lack of motivation to study, and lack of soft skills to prepare for entering the world of work. These factors include peer influence, social pressure, lack of family support, as well as educational conditions and technological literacy. Based on the situation analysis, it is deemed necessary to design a counselling and training program to improve the environmental exposure and prepare youth to enter the working evironmental. This community service focuses on increasing learning motivation in a supportive atmosphere for learning motivation in a supportive atmosphere for learning and developing adolesencets’ soft skill. This activity is conducted in a holistic approach through lectures, pre- and post-test, and English speaking practice. The result of this activity show an increase in soft skills and technological literacy of the participants in using English in oral and written communication.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the stability of ships in MV. Sumatra Leader. The research was carried out for 12 months, from 9 February 2023 to 9 February 2024. This research was carried out on a pure car carrier or Ro-Ro ship named MV. Sumatra Leader, owned by NYK Spill Indororo, Ltd. The data analysis technique of this study is qualitative, using a descriptive approach. The subject of the study was five ship crews consisting of the Captain, Chief Officer, Second Officer, Bosun, and Foreman. The data collection technique is in the form of direct observation and interviews with the research subjects. The results of this study show that the factors that affect the ship’s stability are cargo arrangement, cargo space optimization, cargo handling techniques, the presence of ramp doors, ballast arrangements, a good stowage plan, ship drafts, and correct GM calculations. It is recommended to check the clinometer periodically, tie the cargo well and firmly so that it does not shift, arrange the cargo according to the stowage plan, and do GM calculations to get a positive and ideal GM of the ship after the loading is completed to maintain the stability of the ship when sailing.

Abstract

The role of fire detection tools is very helpful in preventing fire hazards at MV. Meratus Waingapu, on this basis the author formulates the problem of the extent of the ship crew's knowledge of fire detection tools and how to maintain fire detection equipment at MV. Meratus Waingapu. In writing this research, the writer describes the theories used in making research reports and as a basis for solving problems that exist in the research process, especially those related to the role of fire detection tools, as well as the theory of fire detection equipment maintenance. Based on the results of research and discussion of problems carried out by the author during the sailing practice at MV. Meratus Waingapu regarding the effectiveness of fire detection tools, it was found that there were problems in the role of fire detection tools which included a lack of knowledge of the ship's crew about fire detection tools due to lack of implementation of new crew familiarization and lack of implementation of safety meetings on board besides that there is also a lack of maintenance of fire detection equipment
