Abstract

This study examines the relation between potential growth in the context of micro, small, medium enterprises by evaluating several factors, i.e. lack of marketing ability, inadequate business training, technological backwardness, poor quality of products, lack of innovation, unfavorable legal and regulatory framework, insuficient capital, and shortage of skilled labor. The data collected is from 196 self-employed enterprises in Jakarta, Indonesia. Results indicate that unfavorable legal and regulatory framework is the most affecting factor to slow down the growth of small businesses as well as a hindrance to its exports opportunities abroad. The further investigation of demographic factors shows how the differences canadd to ourunderstanding in the potential growth of smallbusinesses.

Abstract

Online reviews are emerging as a powerful source of information influencing consumers’ pre-purchase evaluation. This phenomenon has emphasized the need for a further comprehension of the impact of online reviews on consumer attitudes and behaviors, particularly in the sharing economy platforms. This study aims to examine the relationship of attributes in Airbnb listings towards online reviews and measure the effect of online reviews towards rental price. To examine the hypothesis and drawing conclusion, a web-crawling code was developed to collect data related with the characteristics of Airbnb’s listings, the attributes of the hosts, and the reputation of the listings. The model was tested by using a dataset of 413 Airbnb listings within Jakarta area over a period of Airbnb`s launch in January 2012 until May 2018. The data collected from the survey was processed and analyzed through multiple linear regression model, t-test, and f-test. The results of this study indicate that an online review is not a significant aspect in determining rental price of an accommodation. Furthermore, the findings highlight the importance of a “superhost” badge to influence review volume, while membership duration represents the key reason that affects both review volume and consumer ratings.

Abstract

The trend of drinking coffee has resulted in an increase of coffee consumption around the world, including Indonesia. This study investigates the roles of sensory attributes, functional benefit, and brand ambassador towards the intention to repurchase which leads to brand loyalty of Luwak White Coffee. This study uses a quantitative approach by using primary data and distributed questionnaires to 100 employees of various corporations in Jakarta. The data was analyzed through regression analysis. The result of this study shows that functional benefit has a significant influence on both intentions to repurchase and brand loyalty. This benefit factor is the most important precedent to both repurchase intention and brand loyalty.  On the other hand, sensory attributes do not affect repurchase intention. This type of information can be important to predict or to explain the market response to luwak coffee products, and also to select which sensory attribute should be included in a sensory specification or must be considered in product quality control programs. Another important finding is that, contrary to our expectations, we do not find empirical support for the significant influence of brand ambassador on an intention to repurchase and brand loyalty. The explanation may be that customers currently expect the functional benefit in the form of healthier gastric-friendly white coffee. Moreover, the brand ambassador may not be too influential in the high buying decision among luwak coffee consumers. The relevant contributions that emerged from this study include not only bridging the aforementioned gap in the literature but also offering significant managerial implications to assist organizations to understand the importance of functional benefits toward repurchase intention and brand loyalty.

Abstract

The present research aims to investigate whether presumed negative effects of social media use on mental health have been outweighed by positive factors that contribute influential advantages. Previous research has demonstrated that social media has only negative effects on a person by emphasizing that social media is a major contributor to poor mental health and thus this research examines the relationships between social media impact on learning new knowledge and increased productivity, learning new knowledge and increased productivity on task performance, and direct social media impact on task performance. Researchers used a quantitative approach, collecting questionnaire from 100 respondents that was distributed to young adults (18-26 age), who are currently located in Jakarta, Indonesia. Contrary to what has often been assumed, social media is linked with task performance outcomes. Correlation and data analysis concluded that social media were significantly related with positive associations. Adoption of social media that is used correctly is the main driving force of the beneficial outcomes, which will be explained by the hypotheses centered on direct relationship of social media impact and task performance. The future implications of this study will be discussed.

Abstract

In order to prevent overconsumption, it is crucial to understand the causes of conspicuous consumption. The purpose of this study is to determine how self-esteem (SE) and a sense of belonging (SOB) relate to conspicuous consumption (CC). With an average age of early 20s in the Jakarta and Java region, 127 representatives of Generation Z are surveyed to collect data. Results revealed that both Self-Esteem and Sense of Belonging were strongly correlated with Conspicuous Consumption, according to correlation and regression analysis. We suggest for young adults to not purchase goods or items impulsively to avoid conspicuous consumption rather than displaying one’s wealth. Limitation and future research are discussed in context of the study’s findings.

Abstract

Nowadays, skincare has evolved into a social trend. People are competing to get the best suitable skincare, while local companies are competing to make skincare that is market-acceptable in terms of image, price, and quality. The usage of Korean brand ambassadors has been a topic in the local skincare industry with some of the recognized brands competing to partner with them. This paper aims to determine if the effort provides a positive relationship with customers’ purchase decision compared to other factors, which are the price and product quality. Using a Likert scale questionnaire distributed to Korean wave fans from high school and college students with a random sampling method, the data is constructed using the regression model. The questionnaire collected 52 participants who have used at least one of the local skincare products that use Korean brand ambassadors. It is found that the brand ambassador and price variable is not significant for the model tested, while product quality positively affects the customers’ purchase decision. The model shows that there is a market segmentation that does not consider the Korean brand ambassador even though they are fans of the Korean wave. Moreover, the market segmentation is also willing to spend more for the product that offers better quality. Therefore, the model suggests that local skincare brands focus more on improving the quality of their product.

Abstract

People spend their money impulsively on things they love in this modern age. They claim it is brand love and often do not realize how much they have spent on it. Using McDonald’s as the brand, the main focus of this study was to analyze the effect of brand experience and brand love on resistance to negative information about a brand. This research is classified as a descriptive analysis method to take samples and a questionnaire as the primary tool. Ninety-nine out of 142 McDonald’s customer from around Indonesia was used as a sample for this research. Respondents were selected using a non-probability sampling technique. The research results demonstrate that just because someone has used or tried a brand’s product doesn’t mean they will automatically become resistant to information about the brand. They must first cultivate a brand-love attitude toward the brand.

Abstract

Abstract: Marketing forms have evolved over time, and as the world transitions into a new generation of audiences and consumption behaviors, marketing has gone from the traditional to the more essential digital form, with the use of social media technology such as Instagram and Facebook. The main objective of this study is to empirically examine how hedonic motives, emotional response, and involvement in fashion can impact impulsive buying in the fashion industry within Generation Z. In this context, data were collected from 100 respondents in the age range of 16 to 23 years in the greater areas of Jakarta and Surabaya through an online survey. The data were then tested and finally analyzed. The most influential determinants affecting impulse buying are involvement in fashion, followed by hedonic motives, and emotional response. Even though the scarcity factor fills the gap created by prior studies’ inconsistencies, it fails to moderate the link between emotional response and impulse buying. Keywords: Impulse buying, Hedonic behavior, Emotional response, Involvement in fashion, Scarcity
