Abstract

The position of Bengkulu Province, which is flanked by the subduction zone between the Euro-Asian and Indian-Australian plates to the west, and the Sumatra Fault zone to the east, makes Bengkulu City one of the areas prone to earthquake disasters. Muara Bangkahulu District is one of the sub-districts in Bengkulu City. Muara Bangkahulu sub-district is an area that functions as a government centre, trade and service centre, and one of the education centres in Bengkulu City. This study aims to determine the ground response in the Muara Bangkahulu sub-district area during an earthquake. The wave propagation method used in this study is a one-dimensional equivalent of linear and nonlinear modelling that propagates earthquake waves from bedrock to surface. The results of this study are Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA), amplification factor, earthquake acceleration time history, and acceleration spectra response. The results of this analysis will be compared between equivalent linear and nonlinear values. The results of this study can also help us realise and further consider the value of seismic design in the Muara Bangkahulu sub-district area, mainly if a stronger earthquake occurs in the future.

Abstract

Bengkulu is an area with the potential risk of the Mentawai Pagai Megathrust subduction earthquake; it is necessary to evaluate the bearing capacity and foundation settlement of the building. This study aims to analyse the influence of variations in dimensions and cross-sectional shapes on the bearing capacity and foundation settlement of the Scada building using the Poulos and Davis method, the Reese and Wright method, the Luciano Decourt method, and the finite element method. Based on the results of the Standard Penetration Test (SPT), the influence of variations in shape, namely square and circular, with dimensions of 300 mm, 400 mm, and 500 mm, as well as depths of 7m, 9m, 11m, and 13m, affects the bearing capacity and foundation settlement. The analysis was conducted by comparing the bearing capacity and settlement of pile foundations in the Scada building using various methods. The analysis results show that the bearing capacity, deflection magnitude, and smallest settlement are below the permitted settlement limit, i.e., less than 10% of the foundation dimensions. The comparison between static and numerical methods, or the Bearing Capacity Ratio (BCR) approaching 1, is more efficient and safer to use. In this analysis, the BCR value closest to 1 was obtained for a 500 mm foundation using the Reese and Wright method at a depth of 9 m, yielding a bearing capacity of 312.04 tonnes for a single pile and 207.69 tonnes for a pile group.

Abstract

Drug abuse among adolescents is a critical issue that negatively affects their learning concentration, productivity, decision-making abilities, social behavior, and overall physical and mental well-being, while also increasing the risk of criminal behavior. Adequate knowledge about drugs is positively associated with adolescents’ ability to prevent drug misuse. This community service program aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and strengthen their character in preventing drug abuse through educational and interactive activities. The program targeted the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu, particularly class XI IPS 1. The methods applied included interactive workshops, presentations, small-group discussions, modeling, and role-playing. The activity was conducted on October 9, 2025, and was met with high enthusiasm and active participation from 30 students. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure changes in understanding. The results showed a significant improvement of 87% in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores, indicating an increase in students’ knowledge and capacity to recognize and prevent drug abuse. In addition to benefiting the participants, this program also helped enhance the brand image of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Bengkulu, among stakeholders. Overall, the character-based educational approach proved effective in raising awareness and understanding of drug-abuse prevention among adolescents business potential.

Abstract

The increasing demand for energy, driven by population growth and economic activities, necessitates the utilization of sustainable alternative energy sources. New and Renewable Energy (NRE) has become one of the key solutions to reduce dependence on depleting fossil fuels, which also have negative impacts on the environment. This community service activity aims to enhance public knowledge and understanding of alternative energy utilization based on NRE through the application of appropriate technology. The methods employed include community outreach, educational sessions, and simple demonstrations of alternative energy technologies. The activity was conducted in Sawah Lebar Baru Subdistrict, Ratu Agung District, Bengkulu City, which is one of the two assisted areas of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Bengkulu. The results indicate an improvement in community understanding of alternative energy concepts as well as an increased interest in adopting simple technologies such as biogas, biomass, and solar energy. Therefore, this activity is expected to promote community energy independence and resilience, support sustainable development at the local level, and contribute to the government’s national energy security program.
