Abstract

The peat soil used in this research is fibrous peat soil. The block sampling method was carried out to obtain undisturbed soil samples. The sample locations are from Tanjung Pule Village and Bakung Village, Ogan Ilir Regency. The property index and classification tests include: water content (w), specific gravity (Gs), acidity (pH), ash content (AC), organic content (OC), and fiber content (FC). The parameters of the peat soil shear strength were obtained from the Triaxial UU and Vane Shear tests. Test results in Bakung Village: 693.14 %, Gs = 1.79, pH = 3.01, e = 9.95, b = 12.74 kN/m3, d = 1.61 kN/ m3 OC = 96.60%, AC = 3.3%, and FC = 27.14 %. Test results in Tanjung Pule Village: = 714,77 %, Gs = 1,72, pH = 4,14, e = 13,06, gb = 9,78 kN/m3, gd = 1,11kN/m3, OC = 93.00 %, AC = 7 %, and FC = 36.35 %. Fiber content (FC) in Bakung and Tanjung Pule villages is > 20 %, so it is classified as fibrous peat soil. Triaxial test results obtained shear strength values t =10.72 kPa (Bakung Village) and t =11.62 kPa (Tanjung Pule Village). While the results of the Vane Shear test in Bakung Village, Su = 11.39 kPa and Tanjung Pule Village, Su = 14.31 kPa. Keywords: Peat Soil, Shear Strength, Triaxial, Vane Shear

Abstract

The clay soil used in this study came from Tebing Kawat Village, Talang Ubi District, Pali Regency, South Sumatra Province. The soil sample used was disturbed soil. Soil Stabilizer was used as a mixture to increase the bearing capacity of the soil with a mixture variation of 0%, 6%, 12%, and 18% with a curing time of 0, 7, 14 days in the compaction test (standard proctor) and unconfined compressive strength (unconfined compressive test). Soil property index tests include water content (w), specific gravity (Gs), liquid limit (LL), plastic limit (PL), sieve analysis soil volume weight test mechanical tests include compaction tests (standard proctor) and unconfined compressive strength tests (unconfined compressive test). From the test results obtained the value of the original soil water content of 37.87% the value of the water content after being given a mixture of 28.71%, 19.865%, 13.66%, the specific gravity of the original soil 2.59, the specific gravity after being given a mixture of 2.62, 2.67, 2.74, the liquid limit of the original soil was obtained 48.89 after being given a mixture to 46.67, 43.49, 39.06, while the plastic limit test of the original soil 38.83 given a mixture decreased 32.72, 26.12, 17.84. The results of the sieve analysis of the percentage passing sieve No. 200 with the addition of soil stabilizer made the soil condition granural while the saturation and porosity values were 111.60% and 42.90%, meanwhile the results of the maximum dry volume weight compaction test at 14 days of curing time were 1.452 with a mixture of 18% and the optimum water content decreased by 37.53% to 27.53% with a mixture of 18%, the qu value was 1.9425 and cu was 0.97125 at a mixture of 18%.

Abstract

The characteristics of peat soil are different from clay soil. Physically it has a high water content, large pore number, has organic material content, the presence of fibers in peat soil, while technically it has high compression and low shear strength. This study was to determine the shear strength of peat soil in North Indralaya in Bakung and Tanjung Pule villages. The soil sample used was undisturbed soil. The tool used was a triaxial test tool with CU conditions. The soil sample had a diameter of 35 mm and height of 70 mm with a sample depth of 50 cm. The sampling method used was the block sampling method. From the results of the study, it was found that the greater the isotropic consolidation stress given to the test sample, the greater the deviator stress that arose. The cohesion value was 14–22 kPa, the friction angle was 7°–8°, for effective soil 15–25 kPa. The effective internal friction angle was 7°–9°. Meanwhile, the largest peat soil shear strength value is in Tanjung Pule village with a total shear strength value of 22.636 kPa and an effective shear strength of 26.166 kPa, while Bakung village has a total shear strength of 15.593 kPa and an effective shear strength of 18.273 kPa.
