Abstract

Pyrazolines have been reported to possess many of interesting biological activities suchas antibacterial, antitumor, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, anticancer, andanticonvulsant activity. In this research, an analog pyrazoline 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(naphthalene-1-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pirazol was synthesized by the reaction between 1-naphthyl chalcones and hydrazine hydrate using glacial acetic acid as catalyst undermicrowave irradiation. The compound showed a good yield, and then was characterizedby UV, IR and 1 H-NMR spectroscopy. The antibacterial activity of this compound wasdetermined using agar diffusion method against the bacteria Escherichia coli,Salmonella typi, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial activitywere classified as very weak at concentrations of 10, 30 and 50 μg/disk with a diameterof inhibition produced of 6,2 – 8,1 mm.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe and analyze the presence of penghulu in Tor-Tor Raja-Raja dance and describe the reasons for the presence of penghulu in Tor-Tor Raja-Raja dance. This type of research is qualitative research with descriptive method. The object of this research is the headman in Jorong Silayang. The data used in this research are primary data and secondary data. The main instrument in this research is the researcher himself assisted by supporting instruments such as cameras, stationery, and cellphones. Data collection techniques are done by means of literature study, observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that Tor-tor Raja-raja dance is a traditional dance in Silayang jorong which is performed by the community in a wedding party in Silayang jorong and can only be danced by penghulu. Penghulu in the Silayang area has a dominant influence in the Tor-tor Raja-raja dance, because it is the penghulu who decides in the wedding ceremony whether the Tor-tor Raja-raja dance can be performed or not. The reason the Tor-tor Raja-raja dance itself cannot be danced by other than the penghulu is because the penghulu in Jorong Silayang inherited the rules made by the previous kings.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is still an alarming global public health problem. Individuals infected with HIV can develop Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) when the infection reaches an advanced stage. Dentists are a group at high risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. Therefore, dentists must have good knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards HIV/AIDS patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge level, attitudes, and practices of dentists about patients with HIV/AIDS. Method: This type of research was descriptive with a cross-sectional design and was carried out directly at dentists' private practices or clinics in Medan. A total of 1319 dentists in Medan included 299 dentists during 2024 using a simple random sampling method. Data collection regarding knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards patients with HIV/AIDS from dentists in Medan was carried out using questionnaires. Results: The majority of respondents had a better level of knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS at 51.2%, followed by 44.5% of respondents having a moderate level of knowledge and only 4.3% of respondents having a poor level of knowledge. The majority of respondents had a neutral attitude, namely 58.9% and 34.8% of respondents had a negative attitude, and only 6.4% of respondents had a positive attitude towards patients with HIV/AIDS. The majority of respondents had a good level of practice at 49.2%, 44.1% of respondents had a moderate level of practice, and only 6.7% of respondents had a poor level of practice towards patients with HIV/AIDS. Conclusion: Satisfactory level of knowledge, neutral attitudes, and good practices regarding patients with HIV/AIDS. To maintain a good level of knowledge and practice and establish positive attitudes towards patients with HIV/AIDS, there is a need for improvement in education and post-graduate courses, refresher courses, seminars, and training about HIV/AIDS.KEYWORDSknowledge, attitudes, practices, HIV/AIDS, dentists

Abstract

Background: Starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn) contains vitamin C, flavonoids, tannins, and triterpenoids. This active compound is reported to prevent the growth of bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of starfruit leaf extract (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn) in inhibiting Streptococcus mutans. Method: This type of research is true experimental with a post-test-only control design, where this research uses the Kirby-Baur diffusion method with samples of Streptococcus mutans bacteria and uses wuluh leaf extract with concentrations of 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6 .25%, 3.125%. And DMSO solution as a negative control. Results: The formation of a clear zone shows the ability of starfruit leaf extract to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans, with an average inhibitory diameter of 12.05 0.7188, 9.50 0.3464.8, 65 0.2380, 7.80 0.4546, 6.78 0.8016. Conclusion: Based on the research results, it can be concluded that Averrhoa bilimbi Linn can inhibit Streptococcus mutans.
