Abstract

This paper presented the design and development of a multilevel inverter (MLI). The demand for better electronic devices increases rapidly. The multilevel inverter (MLI) which convert direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) are widely used in the industry. The objective of this research is to design and simulate the 3-level and 3-level NPC MLI module using PLECS software. To develop the switching technique for each level of NPC MLI, and To analyse and validate the MLI in terms of harmonic. Although there is already an inverter in the market, the researcher still pursues to improve the efficiency, total harmonic distortion (THD), and reduce the size of the MLI. An THD can be improved using the suitable modulation technique and the size of the MLI can be reduced by designing better topologies. The modular NPC is using the three-level NPC as the main module and the number of levels can be increased by adding 2 level NPC modules to the main module. The switching technique was created to control the NPC MLI for each level.

Abstract

Swarm robotic is well known for its flexibility, scalability and robustness that make it suitable for solving many real-world problems. Source searching which is characterized by complex operation due to the spatial characteristic of the source intensity distribution, uncertain searching environments and rigid searching constraints is an example of application where swarm robotics can be applied. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is one of the famous algorithms have been used for source searching where its effectiveness depends on several factors. Improper parameter selection may lead to a premature convergence and thus robots will fail (i.e., low success rate) to locate the source within the given searching constraints. Additionally, target overshooting and improper initialization strategies may lead to a nonoptimal (i.e., take longer time to converge) target searching. In this study, a modified PSO and three different initializations strategies (i.e., random, equidistant and centralized) were proposed. The findings shown that the proposed PSO model successfully reduce the target overshooting by choosing optimal PSO parameters and has better convergence rate and success rate compared to the benchmark algorithms. Additionally, the findings also indicate that the random initialization give better searching success compared to equidistant and centralize initialization.

Abstract

Data mining is a tool to assist in decision-making. It is a modern technique, and it is still at a low level of implementation in this approach in Malaysia. In the market sector, data mining methods are usually used specifically to understand, predict, and schedule, which will improve organizational results. This project aims to predict student performance in MyGuru using activity log data. The prediction in this study helps to see a clear vision of student patterns and the activities they access most when logging in to MyGuru. With the resulting prediction model, student performance can be detected, which is influenced by the activities while accessing MyGuru. In developing this research, the main important part is extracting features. Feature extraction needs to be done clearly so that accuracy values can be achieved. The features in this study are selected from the attributes in the activity log. After converting the raw data, the data becomes a new dataset that is used to create a model according to the classifier. The classifiers used in this research are Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, Naive Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbors, and J48, which are involved in developing the model. The most accurate classifier for predicting student performance was Random Forest, which was 96.9%. Students, while using the MyGuru system, with the total of courses viewed was 15.68%, out of a total number of 644 people. The findings show that accuracy cannot be obtained if the original dataset has some issues, such as unbalanced data. Imbalanced data can affect accuracy.
