Abstract

Ultisols is the dominant soil type occupies dry land areas in Indonesia. This soil type is a great potential for the development of the agricultural sector in Indonesia. Constraints of physical, chemical, and biological properties of Ultisols must be considered in utilizing for optimal development of agricultural production. This study aimed to determine the effect of inorganic and organic fertilizers in soil pH, exchangeable-Al, CEC, plant dry weight, and N uptake of maize planted on an Ultisols. This research was carried out in February to June 2021 and conducted in a greenhouse and Soil Physics and Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Soil, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University. The data obtained from all observed variables were analyzed using orthogonal contrast. The results showed that the application of fertilizer, either inorganic and organic, were able to increase soil pH, but decreased plant N uptake and plant dry weight. The application of inorganic fertilizers increased soil pH more than the application of organic, but the N uptake and dry weight of plants increased more due to the application of organic fertilizers than the inorganic. The application of ZA fertilizer decreased soil pH more than the application of urea, although the changes in exchangeable-Al, CEC, N uptake, and plant dry weight were not different. The application of green manure was able to increase the exchangeable-Al content and reduce the N uptake of plants than the application of manure.

Abstract

Ultisols distributes spreadly in Indonesia, but this soil has low fertility. Therefore, the application of organic matter (OM) is a common management to increase this soil fertility. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of different types of OM (originated from animals and plants) on the availability of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium as well as nitrogen uptake in maize in Ultisols. Soil with a mass of 5 kg without organic matter (control), with the application of chicken manure, cow manure, swallow manure, kirinyuh, babadotan, and kalopo manure were incubated in experimental pots for two weeks at 60% field capacity. After the completion of the incubation period, soil sub-sampling was carried out for the determination of available N, available P and exchangeable K. Furthermore, in each experimental pot, corn seeds were planted, and the observations of dried-weight of corn and nitrogen uptake in corn were observed in a vegetative phase. The results showed that the application of different types of organic matter increased soil pH, nitrate content, exchangeable K, plant dried-weight and plant nitrogen uptake. The content of ammonium and available P was not affected by OM addition. The results also showed that OM derived from animals resulted in higher increases in pH and exchangeable K than those derived from plants. However, OM derived from plants resulted in higher increases in nitrate, plant dry weight and better plant N uptake than OM from animal waste. The results of this study show that the application of OM results in increases in some soil chemical properties, in which the degree of increases in soil chemical characteristics is controlled by the OM origin.

Abstract

Ultisol has problems such as soil acidity <5.5, high Al saturation >42%, low organic matter <1.15%, low nutrients such as 0.14% N, P 5.80 ppm, and low base saturation < 35%. Chicken manure is an organic material that alters soil pH and increases total N, total P, and P uptake. Coffee grounds can increase pH, N nutrients, organic matter, available P, prevent fungal growth. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of feeding chicken manure and coffee grounds compost extract in increasing pH, increasing N availability, decreasing exchangeable Al, and increasing P availability of Ultisol. The research method used was a one-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Factors tested were chicken manure, coffee grounds compost extract, and a combination of the two up to five treatments. K0 = Control, no chicken manure and coffee grounds compost extract; K1 = Coffee grounds compost extract 4 kL ha-1; K2 = Chicken manure 2 tons ha-1; K3 = Chicken manure 2 tons ha-1 + coffee grounds compost extract 4 kL ha-1; K4 = Chicken manure 4 tons ha-1 + coffee grounds compost extract 8 kL ha-1. Each treatment was replicated four times for 20 experiments. The results showed that the application of chicken manure and coffee grounds compost extract decreased soil pH, and soil exchangeable Al and increased soil ammonium, nitrate and available P levels.

Abstract

Ultisol land is the largest part of dry land in Indonesia, which is about 25% of the total land area of Indonesia or 45,794,000 hektare. Ultisol soil is classified as low, this is indicated by very low organic matter content, acid soil reaction, low base saturation, high Al content, and low productivity. Increasing the productivity of Ultisol soil can be done through soil improvement (amelioration), fertilization and organic matter. Babadotan (Ageratum conyzoides) can be used as an alternative source/material for organic fertilizer, especially if the availability of other sources of organic fertilizer is very limited. Babadotan gave the largest contribution of N, P and K nutrients compared to other weeds, namely 6.3 ; 0.5 ; 4.7 kg ha-1. Study aims for determine the effect of various technologies for preparing organic fertilizer from babadotan plants on the growth of Dayak onion bulbs. The research was conducted at the Greenhouse, Department of Agroecotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, from March 2018 to July 2019. The experimental design was a one-factor RAL, namely organic fertilizer with five treatments and four replications, so there were 20 experimental units. Observation parameters consisted of soil reaction, CEC, P-Available, Al-dd, and plant yield observations. The application of dry babadotan organic fertilizer in blender was able to increase the level of available P in the soil with the highest value of 198.15 ppm and the application of fresh babadotan organic fertilizer tended to decrease the level of Al-dd in the soil with a value of 0.27 me/100g.

Abstract

Management and utilization of turf soil for cultivation faces several problems such as pH conditions that quite high acidic, and also the fertility in turf soil is quite low. The mixing of Urea Fertilizer with the addition of ameliorant materials such as Zeolite, and Humic Acid was expected to improve the N nutrient status in turf soils to achieve optimal conditions for plants growth to be cultivated on turf soils. The goals of this study was to determine the effect ofapplied Urea Fertilizer, Zeolite and AH-90 on changes in pH, N-Mineral (NH4+    and NO3-),soluble Fe, dry weight, N absorption of Onion plants (Allium fistusolum L.) that planted on turf soils. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD). The experimental factor that applied in this study was Urea Fertilizer within the level 0 kg/ha, 75kg/ha and 100 kg/ha. Zeolite within the level 0 tons/ha and 10 tons/ha. And Humic Acid (AH-90) within the level 0 kg/ha and 10 kg/ha. The result of this study showed that the interaction of treatment (Urea, Zeolite and Humic Acid) had no impact on parameter changes in the pH value of turf soils, N Plant Tissue, and dry weight of onion plants. The addition of Urea was able to increase the Nitrate (NO3-)content in the soil. And Zeolite application can reduce the Ammonium (NH4+) and iron solubilityin turf soil.

Abstract

Maintaining soil sustainability to increase and sustain land productivity can be achieved by minimizing synthetic fertilizers and maximizing organic fertilizers and biofertilizers, especially in suboptimal lands. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effects of organic fertilizers and biofertilizers with reduced NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphate, Potassium) dosage on increasing rice yield in tidal swamp areas in Tebas Sungai Village, West Kalimantan. The procedures were carried out using a complete randomized block design, with several treatments consisting of 175 kg ha-1 NPK as a control (P0), 130 kg ha-1 NPK + 1.5 tons ha-1 cow manure (P1), 130 kg ha-1 NPK + 3.0 tons ha-1 cow manure (P2), and 130 kg ha-1 NPK + 25 kg ha-1 biofertilizers (P3). Based on assessment, the study area was then categorized as C overflow type. The results showed that the combination of NPK synthetic fertilizers with cow manure led to a 15.1%, 25%, 5.6%, and 5.4% increase in total tillers, total grains per panicle, weight of 1000 grains, and rice yield, respectively. In addition, the use of NPK fertilizers with biofertilizers increased total tillers, total grains per panicle, weight of 1000 grains, and rice yield by 24.6%, 56%, 7.7%, and 18%, respectively, compared to only NPK fertilizers. Based on these results, improving rice performance in tidal swamp areas could be achieved by integrating organic or biofertilizers with synthetic fertilizers.

Abstract

Soil reaction (pH), aluminum (Al), iron (Fe) and phosphorus (P) are the parameters which presences in soil are related to each other. The role of each parameter on the grow than development of plants is very significant. Liming and organic mater amendment are some efforts that are frequently performed to increase the pH and P solubility and suppress the solubility of Al and Fe in the soil. Humic acid is one of the organic fractions which is presumed has roles and is closely related to the changes in soil chemical properties as mentioned above. Information about the role of humic acid on the soil pH, the solubility of Al, Fe, and P, especially in upland acidic Ultisols is still limited.  This study aims to: provide empirical data on the roles of various humic acids to soil pH and the solubility of Al, Fe, and P, specifically in upland acidic Ultisols.  The study was a laboratory experiment with a single factor which set by using a completely randomized block design and conducted in two sets of experiments. The first experiment is intended to study the roles of various humic acids derived from several sources (commercial humic acid, humic acids extracted from composted chicken manure, humic acids extracted from composted cow manure and humic acids extracted from composted goat manure) to the soil pH and solubility of Al, Fe, and P. The second experiment was aimed to see the patterns of relationships between application of humic acid (sold commercially) on pH and solubility of Al, Fe, and P. The results showed that humic acid was able to increase the soil pH, solubility of phosphorus, and suppressed the solubility of iron and aluminum with linear patterns of relationships. In increasing the pH, solubility of phosphorus, and suppressing the solubility of iron and aluminum in the soil, humic acid that is sold commercially, at the same amount of C-organics, has greater roles than those derived from organic matter of compost extracts and from organic matter of compost.Key words: Aluminum, Humic acid, iron, pH, phosphorus[How to Cite: Ifansyah H. 2013. Abstract

The peatlands have the potential to support food security efforts. However, there is have constraints on soil fertility, especially the P nutrients availability. The biotechnology approach, the application of ameliorant (biochar-compost carrier medium (biocom)) enriched with phosphate solubilizing fungi (PSF) and coal fly ash (CFA), was expected to increase the P-availability in peat soils. The research aimed to study the application of biocom enriched with PSF and CFA to increase soil P-availability and plant P-uptake. The study was conducted using peat soil media with the formulation of CFA and biocom enriched with PSF and CFA as treatments. The treatment effect was observed through soil P available and plant P uptake of maize. The results showed PSF application was inconsistent in improving P available in peat soils in Kalimantan. In Central Kalimantan, Biocom + PSF was able to increase P available in peat soils by up to 406.18% (A. oryzae-Tb7) and 353.44% (N. fischeri-Tm8). However, in South Kalimantan P available in peat soil was only 8.04% (A. oryzae-Tb7) and 12.86% (N. fischeri-Tm8). The CFA+ (biocom+PSF) formulation increased P available in Central Kalimantan peat soils, but it was different from South Kalimantan peat soils. The application of biocom+PSF and CFA has not been able to increase the P uptake of maize plant in peatlands of South Kalimantan.
