Abstract

This research analyzes the personality of the characters in The Pearl by John Steinbeck using Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory (id, ego, and superego). Through qualitative methods and text analysis, it was found that Kino's id drives impulsive and aggressive actions in defending the pearl, while the ego attempts to channel these desires in a more realistic direction. The superego, which plays a role in maintaining morality, is often overshadowed by materialistic impulses. The conflict between Kino's id, ego, and superego reflects the struggle between personal ambition and moral values in human life.

Abstract

The narration about the bond between humans and nature in literary works is an element that is quite easy to find, but unfortunately this narrative does not seem to mean anything other than to evoke and dissolve the reader in the form of familiarize.  The ecological perspective in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's novel "The Little Prince", which tells the journey of a young prince across different planets, emphasizes the complicated relationship between humans and the environment. Between care, responsibility, and interconnectedness between all beings. The findings reveal that "The Little Prince" advocates environmental awareness that challenges materialistic attitudes and is often negligent in adulthood. By depicting the childlike wonder of the prince and the deep emotional connection with nature, the text encourages readers to adopt a more empathetic and holistic view of their environment. This perspective is particularly relevant in contemporary discussions about ecological sustainability and the moral obligation that humans have towards the planet. Through qualitative descriptive analysis, this research highlights the importance of fostering a sense of concern and appreciation for the environment, as articulated in the prince's reflection. Ultimately, the study states that "The Little Prince" serves as a reminder of the need for humans to connect with nature, advocating for a shift in perception that aligns with ecological principles and promotes a more sustainable future. Using a shallow ecology approach, this exploration not only enriches the literary interpretation of the text, but also contributes to the ongoing dialogue about human ethics and responsibility towards the environment.

Abstract

This research focuses on the hero's death in two Shakespearean plays, Othello and Romeo and Juliet. It attempts to answer how the author depicts death and dying in Shakespeare's plays. Benstock and Dickinson, two specialists on death and dying, will provide an answer to the challenge. Benstock divides the death stages into three categories: deceased, moribund, and living-dead. Simultaneously, Dickinson mentions three periods of life: children strove (early life), gazing grain (physical maturity), and setting sun (ageing). This qualitative research uses textual analysis by deeply reading to describe the heroes’ deaths in the plays. The conclusion was that the hero's death is simply a Shakespearean device for revealing the truth about anything. The message of peace is Romeo and Juliet's death as a vehicle for unifying two opposing families, as in Romeo and Juliet's tragedies between Capulet and Montague. It explains why there should be death when peace can be easily achieved. Furthermore, the revelation of truth through death confirms Desdemona's loyalty to Othello.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of firm age on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosure and to examine the role of concentrated ownership as a moderating variable. The research employs a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from Thomson Reuters Eikon Refinitiv, Stockbit, the Indonesia Stock Exchange, and company annual reports. The research sample consists of non-financial companies selected through purposive sampling technique. CSR is measured using the Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure Index (CSRDI) based on GRI Standards, while concentrated ownership is measured based on the percentage of the largest shareholding. The analysis was conducted using panel data regression with Fixed Effect Model and robust standard errors. The results show that firm age has a positive and significant effect on CSR disclosure. However, concentrated ownership is unable to moderate the relationship between firm age and CSR. These findings indicate that companies that have been operating longer tend to have higher levels of CSR disclosure, while ownership concentration has not been proven to strengthen or weaken this relationship. The results reinforce the importance of firm characteristics in encouraging sustainable CSR disclosure practices.
