Abstract

The crossing between Srikandi Putih corn varieties which have high production potential and protein content with local pulut corn which has high amylopectin levels is expected to produce superior offspring. This study aimed to determine the character of F1 and F2 results of crossing of Srikandi Putih variety with local Pulut corn (waxy corn) at different planting distance. This research was conducted in the Experimental Farm of the Bajeng Cereals Crop Research Institute, South Sulawesi Province, from May-August 2018. This method used was Split Plot Design, consisting of Main Plots, namely planting distance (70 cm x 20 cm and 70 cm x 30 cm) and Sub Plots, namely Varieties (Srikandi Putih, Local Pulut, F1 and F2). The results showed that genotype significantly affected plant height, seed production per hectare, amylopectin content and seed protein content, and genotype had very significant effect on number of leaves, ear length, ear diameter, seed weight per plant and seed weight per plot. Planting distance has a very significant effect on seed weight per plot and the best was 70 cm x 20 cm. This is due to the number of populations at 70 cm x 20 cm planting distance more than 70 cm x 30 cm. Genotype interaction and planting distance have a very significant effect on seed weight per plant. Srikandi Putih variety was the best genotype for growth, production and protein content parameters while the best amylopectin content parameter was local Pulut. Srikandi Putih variety was potential for growth and production as well as high protein content, but low amylopectin levels while local Pulut has high potential for amylopectin levels but low growth and production potential. The best combination of growth, production, protein and amylopectin content was in F1 and F2 genotypes.

Abstract

Increasing corn production by minimizing the use of fertilizers, especially phosphorus (P) fertilizers can be done by maximizing the release of phosphorus nutrients bound in the soil. This study aims to make efficient use of phosphorus fertilizer by utilizing phosphate solvent extract (EPF) in increasing the growth and production of maize. The study was conducted from November 2018 to March 2019, which was arranged in a randomized block design with package treatments: EPF 100 mL/L + P 50 kg/ha (0.7 g/plant), EPF 150 mL/L water + P 100 kg /ha (1.4 g/plant), EPF 200 mL/L water + P 150 kg/ha (2.1 g/plant), EPF 150 mL/L water + P 50 kg/ha (0.7 g/ plants) and EPF 200 mL/L water + P 100 kg/ha (1.4 g/plant). Each treatment combination was repeated three times. The results showed that 1) The availability of P in the soil increased after being treated with a combination of EPF and P reaching 8.61 ppm compared to only 1.15 ppm before treatment. 2) The combination of treatment with EPF 100 mL/L water + P 0.7 g/plant has a very good effect on the level of P uptake. 3) The combination of Phosphate Solvent Extract 200 mL/L water + P 1.4 g/plant has a good effect on growth and maize production of Srikandi Putih Variety with Phosphorus Use Efficiency of 0.82%.

Abstract

Sweet corn is a type of corn that has special characteristics because of its high sugar content so it can be used in various types of food, including snacks, various kinds of vegetables, corn sugar, and so on. Based on this, the demand for sweet corn is increasing so efforts are needed to increase production by increasing the correct population density per unit area and using the right type of manure. This study aims to get the population density and the right type of manure to increase the growth and production of sweet corn plants. This research was conducted in Lera Village, Wotu District, East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi Province, starting in July-October 2019. This research used a factorial of 2-factor of the randomized block design method. The Factor I: population density (P) consists of 3 levels, namely: P1 (one plant per clump), P2 (two plants per clump), P3 (three plants per clump), and factor II is the type of manure (A) with 3 types, namely: A1 (chicken manure 15 t/ha), A2 (cow manure 15 t/ha), A3 (goat manure 15 tons/ha), so that 9 treatment combinations were obtained, repeated 3 times. The results showed that the interaction of two plants per clump and the application of chicken manure gave the best results on cob production with husks per hectare.
