Abstract

Bahasa Aceh, sebagai bahasa lokal Provinsi Nanggroe Darussalam (NAD), memiliki dua bentuk pengejaan dan kaya akan diftong. Di dalam penelitian ini, fitur-fitur fonetik dari bahasa Aceh seperti fonem, pasangan minimal, pasangan meragukan, dan prosedur yang diterapkan dalam mengidentifikasi fonem dianalisis. Metode wawancara, yang melibatkan penutur asli, dan metode studi pustaka diterapkan dalam pengumpulan data. Sedangkan analisis data, khususnya analisis fonem, dilakukan dengan melalui beberapa prosedur, antara lain prosedur pendahuluan (preliminary procedure), prosedur pemisahan (separating procedure), dan prosedur penggabungan (separating prosedure). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 16 fonem konsonan dan 8 fonem vokal di dalam bahasa Aceh. Terdapat sebuah fonem khusus untuk /t/ di dalam bahasa Aceh, yaitu /ţ/.

Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the construction of woman rebellion done by the crown princess, Citra Rashmi in the novel Citra Rashmi: Konspirasi Putri Mahkota by Tasaro GK and to describe the position of patriarchal ideology behind the woman rebellion done by the crown princess, Citra Rashmi in the novel Citra Rashmi: Konspirasi Putri Mahkota by Tasaro GK. Method used in this research was method of critical discourse analysis stated by Teun Van Dijk. The component of research included text, social cognition and social context. The result of research shows that Citra Rashmi is described as a woman with competency in martial arts. Citra Rashmi is also a crown princess of Pasundan Kingdom. The martial competency arts which had by a woman is depicted the deconstruction of physical appearance of a woman, and the breaking out of stereotype of a princess as well.  In short way, the writer wants to describe the characteristic of main character that break the patriarchal ideology.

Abstract

The Henpecked Husband is one of classic poems written by Robert Burns, a neoclassical poet. This poem overall tells about a man who lives under the dominance of his wife. It also contains the some (parts of) lines that represent his opinions about the situation, which tends to blame the couple for the situation. Given the author’s tendency in the writing a research was conducted, aimed at comprehending in detail the manifestations of woman’s (wife’) dominance over the husband in the poem and analyzing and classifying the poet’s opinions theory. To do this library research, gender feminist theory was employed, with primarily feminist concepts written by Rosemary Putnam Tong. Based on the research, there were some major findings. Firstly, there were some manifestations of wife’s dominance over the husband, i.e. in power relation, leadership, decision making, and family’s economy. Secondly, there were some expressions (lines) in the poem that showed the poet’s patriarchal response towards such dominances. Keywords: patriarchal, wife’s dominance, gender, gender feminism

Abstract

This study aims to describe the diction and language style in the commercial advertisement of The Jakarta Post newspaper. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The data source used in this study is The Jakarta Post, published in October 2019. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and expressions in the form of narrative that meet the classification of language style, diction, and advertisement style. Based on the analysis of 19 data, 11 data on Soft Style and 8 Hard Style advertisement styles were found, along with 13 data on connotation diction and 6 data on denotation diction. Meanwhile, 6 data on hyperbole language styles, five alliteration language styles, four metaphorical language styles, two personification language styles, and one each for assonance and metonym language style were found. In addition, the function of the language style is also found, namely 8 data functions to persuade the reader, 5 data functions to create a certain mood, 3 data functions to make the writer’s idea clearer, 2 data functions for the artistic effect of the idea being offered by the writer, and 1 data that serves to increase the reader’s taste. Interestingly, hyperbole is the favorite language style found in the 12 commercial advertisements in The Jakarta Post was published in October 2019, and its function is to persuade the readers.

Abstract

The main problem of research focuses on how are the implementation of Paul Grice cooperative principle of Beatrices utterances in Divergent movie. Cooperative principle is aimed to get the effective communication as required. Violating of cooperative principle, it means that the communication result is not effective. The research is purposed to identify the implementation of Paul Grice cooperative principle of Beatrices utterances in Divergent movie. The method of research is observing Divergent movie and transcribing the data by purposive sampling. The collected data are analyzed by theoretical of cooperative principle and context of situation approach. The result of research shows that the cooperative principle is not always obeyed by Beatrice. Based on 38 data of Beatrices utterances, submissive of cooperative principle consists of 61 % data, while violation of cooperative principle consists of 39% data. The percentages are; submissive of cooperative principle content with 37% quantity maxim, 5% quality maxim, 11% relation maxim, 8% manner maxim. Violation of cooperative principle, they are: 18% quantity maxim, 8% quality maxim, 5% relation maxim, 8% manner maxim. It can be concluded that submissive of cooperative principle are mostly obeyed by Beatrice.

Abstract

Translation is a process of transfering the meaning from the source text into the target text reader. The translator competencies in source language and target language are needed in order to reproduce the closest equivalence in target text.  This study aimed to determine interference in students’ Indonesian-English translation result. The study raised the question: How Indonesian, as the students’ first language,  interferenced their translation in  English when translating texts from Indonesian into English? To answer the question, the researchers analyzed students' mistakes in their Indonesian-English translation products. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method.  The data source was 18 documents of students’ Indonesian–English translation results. The finding showed that the problems arised from interference was the diference of syntactical construction of Indonesian and English. The results showed that interference occurred because of students' lack of knowledge and awareness of the source and target languages.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive research uses non participatory observation method with Telkomsel and Indosat cellular operator advertisements as the objects. There are three types of person pronoun deixis: first, second and third person pronoun deixis which are consist of 14 deixis, namely: ku, aku, aku, gue, kita, kami, mu, kamu, kamu, loe, kamu, bang, dia, dan mereka. The most commonly person pronoun deixis used in Telkomsel and Indosat advertisements is "aku". In addition, it was found that the person pronoun deixis in the Telkomsel advertisement varied more than it is in Indosat advertisements. The use of each personal pronoun deixis depends on the close of participants, situation (formal or less formal), and who the participant itself.

Abstract

This article examines the gender roles expressed by the writer in Nafsu Serakah (2019) short story by Komala Sutha. The language used in Nafsu Serakah short story reveals how the writer point of view toward the difference roles between male and female. Therefore, Appraisal system developed by Martin and Rose (2003) is used to analyze the clauses found in Nafsu Serakah (2019) short story. There are 69 clauses found in Nafsu Serakah (2019) short story that reveal the writer’s point of view toward the difference roles between male and female. In short way, the male character is described more positive than the female character.

Abstract

This research is aimed to identify the appraisal properties in the text of commercial advertisement in Nova tabloid. There are 17 texts of commercial advertisement as the samples of data of research, which were obtained by purposive sampling method. Those texts have been analysed by appraisal system theory stated by White (1998). The appraisal system focuses on the assessment and evaluation of attitude (affect, judgment and appreciation), amplifying attitude and the source of attitude (graduation). The result showed that the positive appreciation dominates the assessment of attitude on the commercial advertisement texts. The manufacturers gave the positive attitude to the product and service being advertised in Nova tabloid because they want to persuade and suggest that the consumers buy and use their products
