Abstract

This study was aimed at improving the habits and courage of dance students in communicating in English. This study was classroom action research with a cooperative learning approach performed through English learning in the Curriculum Review and Development Course, The research subjects were 44 students of  the Dance  Education  Department, Language  and  Art  Faculty, Yogyakarta  State University. The learning activity was Numbered Heads Together. Action  implementation was performed in 2 cycles, which were.' (1) improving the habits to ask and read texts, and (2)  improving courage to do presentation and write. Research results showed that the Numbered Heads Together strategy could motivate dance students to be active in the classroom and improve courage to communicate in English (48%  to 75% in the first  and 98% in the second cycle).   Keywords:  English speaking skills, cooperative learning, classroom technique

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk pertunjukan Fragmen Sumilake Pedhut Katangga dalam upacara ritual bathok bolu di Desa Sambiroto- Purwomartani- Kalasan- Sleman. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Desa Sambiroto- Purwomartani- Kalasan- Sleman. Sebagai subyek penelitian adalah juru kunci Keraton Bathok Bolu, dan para sesepuh di Desa Sambiroto, serta dari Dinas Pariwisata Kabupaten Sleman. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan cara: studi pustaka, observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Pendekatan penelitian yang dipergunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menyebutkan bahwa, Pertunjukan fragmen sumilake pedhut katangga dalam upacara ritual bathok bolu dilaksanakan setiap setahun sekali pada tanggal sepuluh sura. Tradisi ini dilakukan dalam rangka bersih desa yang dilaksanakan di kraton kajiman alas katangga. Kesenian ini juga berfungsi sebagai apresiasi masyarakat, sebagai hiburan, sebagai presentasi estetis, penunjang ekonomi, dan sebagai identitas kekuasaan pemerintah. Kata Kunci: fragmen sumilake pedhut katangga, seni ritual, dan seni tontonan.

Abstract

Up to now, there is still a little number of activities for female choreographers sothat we can rarely watch dance performances composed by them. However,some dance performances in Yogyakarta and Surakarta are composed by femalechoreographers with gender themes. Setyastuti, Inong and Maruti perform theirworks with various themes related to woman life in Indonesia and describe theroles of women in the colonial era through these works. Some of the works areinteresting to be discussed from the gender perspective. The term ‘gender’ refersto social, cultural, and biological senses. This perspective leads to a view orunderstanding about women’s roles that are determined by nature, and theirgender roles, which are determined by society and culture. The different genderfor men and women creates problems if it causes unfair treatment related to menand women’s rights and opportunities.Keywords: dance performance, gender, female choreographers

Abstract

The development of Yogyakarta classical dances in this global era is influenced by the advance of technology, the spread of tourism industries and the change of aesthetic taste of urban society. This article discusses how art lovers and artists face the global challenges and survive in the era. Dance experts create innovative forms of dances that are easy to learn; Dance organizations establish educational programs for dance learning; Dance education produces individuals who grow into dancers, or teachers in both formal and informal education. Moreover, dance organizations also produce new generation who will maintain, preserve and develop the classical dances in the future. Abstract

This research aims to describe the relevance of the values in BedayaBondhetdance course in terms  of character education in Dance Education Department,Yogyakarta State University. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach based on written and oral data. The subject of this research is students of Dance Education Department in Faculty of Languages and Arts, year  2014.  The steps of this research involve observing, data collecting, interviewing, having written and unwritten documentation, data analyzing, and concluding.The result shows that (1) the relevance of the values in  BedayaBondhetdance course in terms of character educationinclude the values of politeness, patience, discipline, concentration, spirit, confidence, determination, cooperation, responsibility, respect, solidarity, consideration, honesty, justice, firmness, feeling of unity, and  getting closer to God; and  2) After getting the values ofBedayaBondhet  dance the students are expected to have better attitudes and behavior.

Abstract

Negara Indonesia dengan penduduk yang multietnis perlu mengupayakan bagaimana membangun sikap menjauhi prasangka SARA (suku, agama, ras dan antar golongan), agar memiliki sikap untuk saling toleransi, menerima dan menghormati perbedaan. Hal itu dilakukan antara lain melalui pendidikan di Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA), pada khususnya pembelajaran tari dianggap strategis sebagai alat pendidikan multikultural di sekolah. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bagaimana Sekolah Mengah Atas Yogyakarta menterjemahkan kurikulum 2013 dalam pembelajaran tari, bagaimana memaknai empat sifat multilingual, multidimensi, multikultural, dan multikecerdasan dalam dimensi koqnitif, affektif, dan motorik. Artikel ini difokuskan untuk mengkritisi praktik pembelajaran tari sebagai alat pendidikan dan bermanfaat untuk menyemai nilai multikultural agar siswa mempunyai sikap toleransi dan apresiatif terhadap keberagaman budaya Indonesia. Observasi dilakukan di Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Yogyakarta dengan metode purposive sumpling, mendiskripsikan, dan mengidentifikasi sekolah yang menyelenggarakan pembelajaran tari dalam perspektif multikultural. Selain itu dengan kriteria menggunakan kurikulum 2013, materi tari yang diajarkan berasal dari berbagai daerah di Indonesia terutama pembelajaran penciptaan tari kelompok, siswa berasal dari beberapa daerah termasuk dari desa dan kota. Hasil pengamatan bagaimana menyemai atau menanamkan nilai multikultural perlu digali dan diupayakan terus menerus melalui pembelajaran penciptaan tari kelompok. Siswa mendapat pengalaman menciptakan tari kelompok, diharapkan akan membentuk karakter kerjasama, kreatif, dan estetis. Abstract

The Character Education through Arts: An Analysis of the Dance Learning Process in High Schools. This research aims to describe the practice of character education through the dance learning process in high schools, criticizing high schools’ approach for instilling character education to an attitude of tolerance and appreciative towards cultural diversity in Indonesia. It s qualitative research with an ethnocoreology and multicultural approach. The study used a purposive sampling method to determine the sample and selected schools that develop a multicultural educational dimension. The ethnocoreology approach is to observe embodiment experiences to the students who study local dance and Nusantara dance. A Multicultural approach is applied to monitor education for empowerment by using Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s Arts Education concept at schools. Data collection was conducted by observation, field study, literature, interviews, and documentation. Matthew B. Milles and A. Michael Huberman’s data reduction stages, data exposure, and concluding were used to analyze the data.The research findings show that (1) dance learning in high schools is an educational tool and an appropriate means to instill character education. It is an effort to positively influence students’ lives as a tool to control the students’ souls towards beauty, nobility, and refinement to live harmoniously and empowered. (2) Character education in dance lessons is by applying to appreciate, expressing, and creating dance works. (3) From a multicultural education perspective, the experience of the dancers’ needs will foster an attitude of tolerance and appreciation.Keywords: character education; dance learning; high school
