Abstract

Power System Stabilizers (PSS) are added to excitation systems, in order to enhance the damping of electric power system during low frequency oscillations. For large scale power systems comprising of many interconnected machines, the PSS parameter tuning is a complex exercise due to the presence of several poorly damped modes of oscillation. The problem is further being complicated by continuous variation in power system operating conditions. In the simultaneous tuning approach, exhaustive computational tools are required to obtain optim um parameter settings for the PSS, while in the case of sequential tuning, although the computational load is fewer, evaluating the tuning sequence is an additional requirement. There is a further problem of eigenvalue drift. This research proposes the PSS model based on IEEE Standard 421.5 PSS 4B for designing robust power system stabilizers for a multi machine system. Simulations were carried out using several fault tests at transmission line on a Two-Area Multimachine Power System. As a reference the PSS model, Delta w PSS and Delta Pa PSS has been used for comparison with the PSS under consideration. The result shows that power transfer response using the model is more robust than Delta w PSS and Delta Pa PSS, especially for three phase faults and phase to ground faults.

Abstract

Electric Railway (KRL) is a train that is based on eletrification system. The electrification system in the KRL supplies electrical energy to the train locomotive and several other carriage units, so the train can run. Electrical energy can be either AC or DC source. There are two electrical systems to support the performance of KRL, propulsion system and auxiliary system. The propulsion system is a driving system and than the auxiliary system is the system that handles the electrical load on KRL. In this research, discuss about the loss of propulsion system on KRL LAA Electric DC, AC Traction Motor. The propulsion system consists of several components, such as pantograph, circuit breaker, capacitor filter, IGBT VVVF inverters and AC traction motors. The component has different losses and different efficiencies. There are five test conditions for AC traction voltage inputs of 160.5V, 321V, 493.9V, 635V and 645V. By calculating using equations, from the five test conditions it can be seen that the propulsion system has the lowest power loss with the highest efficiency at the input voltage of AC 635V traction motors, which obtained the power loss of inverter VVVF IGBT 41.996kW with the efficiency 90.67% and the power loss of AC traction motor 18.219kW with the efficiency 91.45%.

Abstract

Insulation of the transformer is one of the essential components. So that the quality of the resistance in the isolation of the transformer is essential to note the condition, in order to find out the condition of the transformer isolation, several tests must be performed, namely the polarization index, delta tangent, and break down voltage. In this study, all three tests were carried out on Transformer 1 in the 150 kV Bantul substation. Polarization index testing itself is testing the leakage current on the transformer isolation by comparing the test results for 1 minute with the results of the 10-minute drive test. While delta tangent is testing capacitive leakage current in the isolation transformer, and break down voltage is a test of the ability of the breakdown voltage in transformer insulation oil. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be seen that the value of the transformer polarization index in 2016 and 2018, the average value between the windings has been in the rating of 1.25-2.0. As for the delta tangent test results in 2016 and 2018, the value between the capacitive parts is already in the rating of 0.18% -0.36%. For the breakdown voltage test results in 2016 and 2018, the average breakdown voltage value is 43.9 kV/mm - 65.5 kV/mm. From these data, it can be concluded that the transformer isolation conditions in 2016 and 2018 are in good condition, although there was a decline in the transformer isolation conditions in 2016. However, the National Electric Company has made repairs and maintenance of the isolation transformer. This is seen due to an increase in the quality of transformer insulation in 2018. Repair and maintenance of transformer insulation are done to maximize the work system and the life of the transformer.

Abstract

The design of student housing in the modern era is not only required to provide functional comfort but also to address the challenges of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) responds to these needs through the development of a Student Dormitory that adopts the principles of smart and green building. The purpose of this community engagement program is to evaluate the implementation of intelligent and environmentally friendly building concepts from technical, functional, and operational economic perspectives. This program employs a case study method with a descriptive qualitative approach, based on the analysis of building technical documents and a review of relevant national and international scientific literature. The findings show that the integration of digital access control systems (smart access), energy-efficient VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) cooling, harmonic filters, solar water heaters, and the use of Panasap Blue Glass has significantly contributed to reducing energy consumption by up to 40%. In addition to enhancing residents’ comfort and security, these technologies also demonstrate potential investment payback within 5 to 7 years. The implications extend beyond cost and operational efficiency, contributing directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, this program is grounded on the principle of sustainability, emphasizing the long-term utilization of eco-friendly technologies, the principle of benefit, ensuring tangible advantages for students, the university, and the wider community through improved quality of life and reduced carbon footprint; and the principle of economic viability, guaranteeing operational cost efficiency and financial sustainability of the project. The strategic objectives of this community engagement initiative are (1) to establish UMY’s Student Dormitory as a model of environmentally conscious student housing in tropical regions, (2) to promote knowledge and technology transfer on smart and green buildings to other universities, (3) to strengthen UMY’s reputation as a modern campus aligned with the SDGs agenda, and (4) to create an energy-efficient housing ecosystem that contributes to long-term cost savings and improved residents’ well-being.
