Abstract

The Japanese high school curriculum is the same in Riau as in other regions; it is part of the specialty. Consequently, learning Japanese will take much less time. It is challenging for Japanese language teachers to meet learning objectives because of the required minimum hours of instruction. Therefore, this study aimed to outline the challenges Japanese high school teachers in Riau had when trying to learn Japanese. 36 Japanese instructors in Riau were polled for this study. Japanese language teachers and other issues like infrastructure and facilities present difficulties for students learning the language. According to this survey, high school students who struggled to read Hiragana faced the five most common forms of challenges learning Japanese: (1) Students who had difficulty reading Hiragana and Katakana, (2) Students who had a problem writing Hiragana and Katakana, (3) Students who had trouble pronouncing Japanese words correctly, (4) Some teachers still used traditional teaching methods, and (5) Students had little interest in speaking Japanese. The findings showed that the process of boosting students' motivation to talk to Japanese presented the most challenge. The majority of the 22 (61.1%) Japanese high school instructors in Riau concurred that the cause of the students was still low. Of course, this may be avoided by encouraging instructors to be more inventive when creating relevant teaching materials, engaging learning media, and putting the needs of the students first.

Abstract

In Japanese language education, mastering kanji is one of the basic aspects that is very important because kanji are widely used in learning. However, there are still students who make mistakes when writing kanji by not writing them in the correct stroke order (hitsujun). The large number of kanji that must be learned, students who do not have a kanji culture background, and limited learning time in class are factors that cause students to have difficulty in remembering the correct hitsujun kanji. This study aims to find out and describe kanji writing errors based on hitsujun in 2021 students of Japanese Language Education Study Program FKIP Riau University. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data was taken from a kanji writing test given to the research sample and then analyzed the errors in writing hitsujun kanji based on the principles of writing kanji sequences. The result of this study is the error rate of kanji writing that is not in accordance with the correct hitsujun of 56.96%. The writing errors are grouped based on the principles of kanji sequence writing. In addition, five other groups of writing errors were also found.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of ateji found in the manga Katekyo Hitman Reborn!. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with note-taking as the data collection technique and content analysis as the data analysis technique to obtain results in the form of written descriptive explanations. Data were taken from chapters 347 to 409 of the manga, with a total of 401 ateji identified. After eliminating repeated ateji, there were 100 different ateji. The types of ateji found include foreign language ateji, colloquial speech ateji, English abbreviations, pronouns, substitute terms, and special terms within the work. These findings demonstrate the diversity of ateji usage in the manga "Katekyo Hitman Reborn!" and provide insights into how these linguistic elements are used to enrich the text and aid in characterization and narrative.
