Abstract

Study of Neolithic settlement pattern in Ranu Grati area at Pasuruan-East Java is a part of research series on the ancient settlements at the lakes area in East Java, conducted by author since 2008. Research has been csttied out every year in a row starting from Ranu Klakah, Ranu Gedang, Ranu Segaran, Ranu Bethok, and Ranu Grati. Eventhough in its early stage of research, the results are quite promising, both geoarchaeological and archaeological landscape as well as its artifactual data. Lake terraces as geo-archaeological data and artifacts such as pottery sherds, net-sinkers, and Neolithic adze are evidences of settlement in Grati Lake area.

Abstract

Local wisdom inherited by our ancestors has gradually been abandoned by present generation. Local wisdom actually taught us to live harmoniously with the surrounding environtment. As such, the environtment should be well - preserved for human own purposes. Ethno-archaeological studies could be used to unearth local wisdom of certain community or ethnic group. Eventually, this will provide added value to archaeological research.

Abstract

Art including painting is an element of culture. Therefore art also becomes an object of archaeological research. Rock art paintings found in prehistoric caves in Kutai Timur regency of East Kalimantan Province are categorized as art paintings of prehistoric era. In prehistoric archaeology, arts and religion were difficult to be separated. Rock art paintings should be analized by religion approach and arts approach as well.

Abstract

Archaeologists' foresight in handling the results of their research will determine the impact that will be felt by the wider community. This is what some of our archaeologists have not thought about. Most archaeological research results end in Archaeological Research Reports or Archaeological Research News which are only limited to reading by archaeological observers, including students majoring in Archeology or history who need for academic purposes. By trying to establish partnerships and cooperation with various sectors and interests, hopefully the reach, thoughts and considerations in determining the archaeological research model will be more extensive and more grounded.

Abstract

The Muara Kaman area has been a fairly busy area since the proto-history era because it became a transit area and at the same time a meeting place between people from the interior and traders from outside Kalimantan. How the condition of the Muara Kaman area at that time cannot be explained with complete data, especially how large the ancient area was and where the centers of activities carried out by the people in the Ancient Kutai Kingdom at that time.

Abstract

The Watu Kandang site referred to in this paper is a plot of land containing ancient remains in the form of a solid stone arrangement with a rectangular floor, and is believed by the local community to be an ancestor's grave. In the research area, the arranged stones were found scattered around the Kali Samin stream, and successively from upstream to downstream in Pakem, Karangrejo, Ngasinan, Kedungsari, Bodagan, Gondang, Selestri, Sabrang, and Plosorejo hamlets. The nine sites are located in three different locations.

Abstract

Pringgoloyo atau sering disebut Pringgolayan merupakan sebutan bagi sebuah tempat dan bukan merupakau nama dukuh ataupun kampung. Sebutan tersebut didasarkan pada temuan susunan batu berbentuk setengah lingkaran yang dikeramatkan oleh penduduk di sekitarnya. Selanjutnya nama Pringgolayan dalam tulisan ini digunakan untuk menyebut sebuah situs megalitik. Secara administratif situs Pringgoloyo terletak di dukuh Sukorejo, kelurahan Sukorejo. kecamatan Wedi, kabupaten Klaten, tepatnya 6 kilometer di sebelah Selatan kota Klaten. Belum diketahui alasan penyebutan situs tersebut sebagai Pringgoloyo atau Pringgolayan.

Abstract

Tokoh Bima di Jawa selama ini dikenal dalam tiga bentuk penggambaran, yaitu: Bima yang digambarkan sebagai arca batu. Bima yang digambarkan dalam relief pada candi. Bima yang digambarkan dalam cerita wayang atau kitab Dewaruci. Baik Bima sebagai arca, dipahatkan pada relief, maupun Bima yang terdapat di dalam cerita wayang, memiliki persamaan - persamaan dan diperkirakan berasal dari satu periode. Seperti telah kita ketahui Dr. W.F. Stutterheim di dalam bukunya yang berjudul Studies in Indonesian Archaeology telah menguraikan secara luas tentang tokoh Bima. Stutterheim antara lain mengatakan bahwa arca Bima yang digambarkan dengan tubuh yang seram dan memakai upawita ular adalah identik dengan Bima Bhairawa dalam agama Siwa, yaitu salah satu aspek dari Siwa (Stutterheim, 1956: 116 -117).
