Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa yang diajar dengan teknik cooperative script dan siswa yang diajar dengan teknik konvensional. Rancangan penelitian penelitian ini adalah Quasi Experimental of Posttest Only Control Group Study. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 180 siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 3 Banjar. 60 siswa dari dua kelas diambil sebagai sampel. Mereka ditetapkan sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol dengan undian. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial menggunakan aplikasi SPSS 19. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata - rata skor kelompok eksperimen adalah 85,37 sedangkan nilai rata - rata kelompok kontrol adalah 76,63. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan bahwa t-diamati melebihi nilai t-kritis (4,376> 2,048). Dengan demikian hipotesis nol ditolak, artinya ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap pemahaman membacasiswa kelas VIII di SMP N 3 Banjar.Kata Kunci : Cooperative Script, Pemahaman Membaca This study aimed at investigating the effect of cooperative script technique on the students’ reading comprehension. The research design of this study was Quasi Experimental of Posttest Only Control Group Design. The population of this study was 180 students of the eighth grade students of SMP N 3 Banjar. Sixty students from two classes were taken as samples. They were assigned as an experimental group and a control group through lottery. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially by using SPSS 19. The result showed that the mean score of the experimental group was 85.37 while the mean score of the control group was 76.63. The result of t-test showed that the t-observed exceeded the t-critical value (4.376 > 2.048). Thus, the null hypothesis was rejected, which means there was significant effect on the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension of SMP N 3 Banjar.keyword : Cooperative Script, Reading Comprehension

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah diary writing memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks recount di SMA Negeri 1 Sukasada tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian semu dengan desain post-test only control group. Populasi dari penelitian ini berjumlah 178 siswa dari enam kelas. Sampel penelitian diperoleh dengan cara random sampling dan diperoleh kelas X IB I sebagai kelas eksperimen yang diajar dengan menerapkan diary writing, dan kelas X IB II sebagai kelas kontrol yang diajar dengan menggunakan strategi konvensional. Data didapat melalui tes menulis. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil dari analisis menunjukkan bahwa siswa di kelas X IB I memperoleh hasil yang lebih baik daripada siswa di kelas X IB II. Hal ini dibuktikan dari hasil t-test yang menunjukkan bahwa tobs lebih tinggi dari tcv. Tobs adalah 2.715 sedangkan tcv adalah 1.671 (tobs > tcv). Berdasarkan hasil yang ditunjukkan, itu berarti bahwa diary writing mempunyai pengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks recount.Kata Kunci : menulis, diary writing, teks recount This study aimed to investigate whether diary writing has significant effect on students’ competence in writing recount texts at SMA Negeri 1 Sukasada in academic year 2017/2018. The sample was obtained by using random sampling technique, and the result of the lottery was X IB I as an experimental group and X IB II as a control group. The experimental group was taught by implementing diary writing, and the control group was taught by using conventional method. The data was collected through writing test. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The result showed that the students in X IB I achieved a better result than the students in X IB II. It was proven by the result of t-test that showed tobs was higher than tcv. Tobs was 2.715 meanwhile tcv was 1.671 (tobs > tcv). Based on the result showed, it means that diary writing has significant effect on students’ competence in writing recount texts.keyword : writing, diary writing, recount text

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi alasan untuk menggunakan atau tidak menggunakan TIK dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa inggris. Sebanyak 54 guru dilibatkan dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran dengan desain concurrent triangulation. Penelitian ini menggunakan sebuah instrumen, yait kuesioner terbuka. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data kualitatif, baik guru laki-laki maupun perempuan, dan guru dari generasi X maupun Y sadar akan pentingnya TIK dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa inggris juga keterbatasan mereka dalam menggunakan TIK dalam mengajar. Pengembangan lebih lanjut disarankan kepada pemerintah, guru bahasa inggris, dan peneliti lainya untuk meningkatkan penggunaan TIK dalam mengajar. Kata Kunci : TIK, Gender, Umur. This study aimed to identify the reasons implementing or not implementing ICT in the process of English teaching and learning. There were 54 of English teachers employed in this research. This research integrated mix method concurrent triangulation design. There was an instrument used in this research, namely open ended questionnaire. The quantitative data showed there were differences of ICT use across gender and ages. Based on the qualitative data analysis, both male and female, and, X and Y generations of English teachers seemed to realize the importance of ICT in English teaching and learning, including their limitation in employing ICT in teaching and learning process. Further works suggested for the government, English teachers, and other researchers to improve the number of ICT integration in teaching.keyword : ICT, Gender, Ages

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan ada atau tidaknya pengaruh dari penerapan Sustained Silent Reading pada pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian quasi-experimental yang menggunakan desain post-test only control group. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah semua siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 1 Sukasada, sedangkan sampel pada penelitian ini adalah 57 siswa yang terdiri dari 28 siswa dari kelas VIII E sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan 29 siswa dari kelas VIII F sebagai kelompok kontrol. Sampel dikelompokan dengan menggunakan random sampling on the intact group. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui post-test dalam bentuk pilihan ganda. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa skor rata-rata untuk kelompok eksperimen (79.00) lebih tinggi daripada skor rata-rata untuk kelompok kontrol 75,65. Selanjutnya, analisis statistik inferensial melalui uji t-test mengungkapkan bahwa tobs lebih tinggi dari tcv yaitu 2,225> 2,008 (ɑ = 0,05). Selanjutnya hipotesa melalui uji t-test mengungkapkan jika ada pengaruh dari Sustained Silent Reading terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa dengan hasil effect size sedang 0.58 (t=2.225, df=55, p < .05¬). Kata Kunci : Sustained Silent Reading, Pemahaman Membaca, Whole Language Approach. The purpose of this study was to discover whether or not there is an effect of the implementation of Sustained Silent Reading toward students’ reading comprehension. This study was quasi-experimental study with post-test only control group design. The population of this study was all eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Sukasada, while the sample of this study was 57 students consisting of 28 students from VIII E as experimental group and 29 students from VIII F as control group. The sample was gathered by using random sampling technique on the intact groups. The data were collected through post-test in form of multiple choice test. The obtained data were analysed descriptively and inferentially. The result of this shows that mean score for experimental group (79.00) is higher than the mean score for control group (75.65). Furthermore, inferential statistical analysis through independent sample test revealed that tobs is higher than tcv which is 2.225 > 2.008 (ɑ = 0,05¬). Moreover the hypothesis through independent sample test revealed that there is an effect of Sustained Silent Reading toward students’ reading comprehension with the moderate effect size 0.58 (t=2.225, df=55, p < .05¬)keyword : Sustained Silent Reading, Reading Comprehension, Whole Language Approach.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan menguasai vocabulary Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas VII yang diajar dengan Computer-Assisted Hidden Object game. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu. Sampel penelitian diperoleh dengan cara cluster random sampling dan diperoleh kelas VII B di SMP Negeri 3 Sukasada sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelas VII C di SMP Negeri 3 Sukasada sebagai kelompok kontrol. Kelompok eksperimen diajar dengan menggunakan Computer-Assisted Hidden Object game, sedangkan kelompok kontrol diajar dengan menggunakan strategi konvensional. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah post-test dalam bentuk tes pilihan ganda. Penelitian experimen ini mengimplementasikan desain penelitian post-test only control group. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok siswa di kelas eksperimen mampu menunjukkan hasil yang lebih baik daripada kelompok siswa kelas control. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dari hasil t-test dimana nilai tobs adalah 3.3883, sedangkan nilai tcv adalah 1.677 (tobs > tcv). Hal ini berarti bahwa penggunaan Computer Assisted Hidden Object game mampu memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan pada kemampuan menguasai vocabulary Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VII SMP. This study was a quasi-experimental study. The sample of this study was administered using cluster random sampling technique and concluded that VII B students as a experimental group while VII C students as a control group. The experimental group was taught by using Computer-Assisted Hidden Object game, while the control group was taught by using conventional strategy. The instrument used in this study was post-test in a form of multiple choice test. This experimental research implemented post-test only control group design. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The result showed that the group of students in experimental group could perform a better result rather than the group of students in the control group. It could be proven from result of the t-test in which the tobs was 3.3883, meanwhile the tcv was 1.677 (tobs > tcv). Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian case study deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) jenis penguatan yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris, (2) alasan guru menggunakan penguatan tersebut, dan (3) keefektifan penguatan guru pada siswa. Subjek penelitian adalah seorang guru bahasa Inggris dan siswa kelas delapan SMP N 1 Kintamani. Metode pengumpulan data adalah observasi dan dokumentasi serta wawancara. Data dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris siswa di kelas delapan SMP N 1 Kintamani lebih banyak menggunakan penguatan positif (79.39%) dan diikuti oleh penguatan negatif (20.61%) selama proses belajar mengajar. Penguatan positif yang diberikan oleh guru adalah tangible reinforcement (72.38%), social reinforcement (27.07%), dan privilege reinforcement (0.55 %). Penguatan negatif yang digunakan oleh guru menyebut nama siswa (46.81%), reminders, prompt and cues (21.28%), proximity (17.02%), gesture (10.64%) dan kontak mata (4.25%). Alasan guru menggunakan penguatan itu adalah karena penguatan itu bisa memotivasi siswa serta membuat siswa tetap memperhatikan pelajaran. Penguatan positif yang diberikan oleh guru efektif pada siswa karena dapat membuat siswa aktif di kelas. Sementara, untuk penguatan negatif, tidak semua dari mereka efektif.Kata Kunci : penguatan, sekolah menengah pertama This research was a descriptive case study study aimed at describing (1) kinds of reinforcement used by english teacher, (2) the reason of teacher using those reinforcements, and (3) the effectiveness of the teacher’s reinforcements on students. The subject of the study was an english teacher and the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kintamani. The method of data collection were observation and documentation as well as interview. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of the study showed that the english teacher in eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kintamani mostly used positive reinforcement (79.39%) followed by negative reinforcement (20.61%) during the teaching and learning process. Positive reinforcement given by the teacher were tangible reinforcement (72.38%), social reinforcement (27.07%), and privilege reinforcement (0.55 %). Negative reinforcement used by the teacher were mention students’ name (46.81%), reminders, prompt and cues (21.28%), proximity (17.02%), gesture (10.64%) and eye contact (4.25%). The reason of teacher using those reinforcement was because those reinforcement could motivate the students as well as keep them on track. Positive reinforcement given by the teacher was effective on students because it could make students active in the classroom. While, for the negative reinforcement, not all of them were effective.keyword : junior high school, reinforcement

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi signifikansi hubungan antara keterlibatan orang tua dan prestasi bahasa inggris dari siswa kelas 8 di SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. Desain penelitian yang di gunakan adalah korelasi sederhana yang melibatkan 58 orang siswa dan orang tua mereka sebagai sample penelitian. Materi untuk kuesioner diadopsi dari jurnal artikel karya Shute et al. (2011) yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data mengenai keterlibatan orang tua di rumah, sedangkan data mengenai prestasi bahasa Inggrisnya didapatkan dengan melihat nilai rapor siswa. Investigasi hubungan antara keterlibatan orang tua di rumah dan prestasi bahasa Inggris siswa dilakukan dengan menggunakan korelasi Pearson Product Moment. Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya hubungan yang positif dan signifikan diantara keterlibatan orang tua dan prestasi bahasa Inggris siswa, dengan nilai Pearson Correlation = 0.440 > 0.05.Kata Kunci : keterlibatan orang tua, prestasi, prestasi bahasa Inggris The purpose of this study is to investigate the significant relationship between parental involvement and students’ English achievement of 8th grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. The design of this study is simple correlation involving 58 students and their parents as the sample. The material of the questionnaire was adopted from Shute et al.(2011) and was used to collect the data of the home – based parental involvement, while the data of the English achievement was collected from school principal. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to investigate the correlation between parental involvement and students’ English achievement. The result shows that parental involvement and students’ English achievement have a positive and significant correlation, with the Pearson Correlation value = 0.440 > 0.05. keyword : parental involvement, achievement, English achievement

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan bagaimana guru bahasa inggris memberikan pertanyaan kepada siswa, (2) medeskripsikan bagaimana respon siswa terhadap pertanyaan guru. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi kasus dengan subjek penelitian seorang guru bahasa inggris dan siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja. Data dari penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan dokumentasi, maupun wawancara. Adapun instrument yang digunakan yaitu lembar observasi dan rekaman video, checklist, dan panduan wawancara. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara kuantitaf dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa (1) guru sebagian besar mengajukan pertanyaann convergent (61.07%) yang digunakan untuk mengecek pemahaman siswa. (2) pertanyaan procedural (25.89%) yang digunakan untuk mengevaluasi persiapan siswa dan berhubungan dengan rutinitas kelas, dan pertanyaan divergent (13.04%) yang digunakan untuk memelihara wawasan dengan memaparkan hubungan baru. Kemudian, adapun enam strategi yang digunakan, yaitu no calling out, cold call, repeating, prompting, waiting, and probing. Strategi yang paling banyak digunakan oleh guru adalah no calling out dengan presentase (54.35%). Kemudian, siswa memberikan tiga jenis respon dalam bentuk verbal (81,42%), non-verbal (4,74%), dan no-response (13,84%).Kata Kunci : Pertanyaan guru, Respon siswa This study aimed to (1) describe how the English teacher gives question to the students, (2) describe how the students give response to the teacher’s question. This study was a case study with the subject of an English teacher and seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja. The data were collected through observation and documentation, as well as interview. The instrument used were observation sheet and video recorder, checklist, and interview guide. The collected data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result showed that (1) the teacher mostly posed convergent question (61.07%) which were used to check students’ understanding, (2) procedural question (25.89%) which were used to evaluate student preparation and dealt with classroom routines, and (3) divergent question (13.04% ) which were used to nurture insight by exposing new relationship. Then, six strategies were used, namely no calling out, cold call, repeating, prompting, waiting, and probing. The most used strategy by the teacher was no calling out with percentage (54.35%). Then, the students provided three kinds of response in the form of verbal (81.42%), non-verbal (4.74%), and no-response (13.84%). keyword : Students’ responses, Teacher’s question

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there was a significant effect of REAP strategy on reading comprehension of the eight grade students in SMP Negeri 3 Tabanan. The design of this study is quasi experiment of post – test only control group design involving 61 students as the sample. The samples were chosen by using random sampling technique. The data was collected through post – test by using multiple choice test. Independent sample test was used to test the hypothesis. The result showed that the main score of experimental group (74.9) was higher than control group (67.3). Inferential statistical analysis’s result (t = .679, df = 59, p<0.05 (0.01)) indicated that there was a significant effect of REAP strategy of students’ reading comprehension of the eight grade students in SMP Negeri 3 Tabanan academic year 201802019. According to Eta Squared formula, the effect size of this research was 0.11 which was considered as moderate effect based on Cohen’s effect size guideline.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi signifikansi hubungan antara keterlibatan orang tua dan prestasi bahasa inggris dari siswa kelas 8 di SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. Desain penelitian yang di gunakan adalah korelasi sederhana yang melibatkan 58 orang siswa dan orang tua mereka sebagai sample penelitian. Materi untuk kuesioner diadopsi dari jurnal artikel karya Shute et al. (2011) yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data mengenai keterlibatan orang tua di rumah, sedangkan data mengenai prestasi bahasa Inggrisnya didapatkan dengan melihat nilai rapor siswa. Investigasi hubungan antara keterlibatan orang tua di rumah dan prestasi bahasa Inggris siswa dilakukan dengan menggunakan korelasi Pearson Product Moment. Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya hubungan yang positif dan signifikan diantara keterlibatan orang tua dan prestasi bahasa Inggris siswa, dengan nilai Pearson Correlation = 0.440 > 0.05.Kata Kunci : keterlibatan orang tua, prestasi, prestasi bahasa Inggris The purpose of this study is to investigate the significant relationship between parental involvement and students’ English achievement of 8th grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. The design of this study is simple correlation involving 58 students and their parents as the sample. The material of the questionnaire was adopted from Shute et al.(2011) and was used to collect the data of the home – based parental involvement, while the data of the English achievement was collected from school principal. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to investigate the correlation between parental involvement and students’ English achievement. The result shows that parental involvement and students’ English achievement have a positive and significant correlation, with the Pearson Correlation value = 0.440 > 0.05. keyword : parental involvement, achievement, English achievement
