Abstract

Aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) contains amino acids, vitamins, folic acid, and liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L) containing glisirizin, and flavonoids, which have properties as fertilizer hair. This study aims to obtain a combination of extracts with activity most optimal fertilizer hair, made 3 combination with a combination of 1 (the water extract of liquorice concentration of 2.5% and 7.5% aloe vera), a combination of 2 (the water extract of liquorice concentrations of 2, 5% and 2.5% aloe vera), and combinations of 3 (the water extract of liquorice concentration of 5% and 7.5% aloe vera). Testing the activity of hair growth is done by measuring the rate of hair growth, hair growth acceleration and weight of rabbit hair for 28 days. Rabbit hair growth results showed the combination 1 has an average length of the largest hair with hair growth rate value of 2.97 cm, accelerated hair growth amounted to 0.15 cm / day on day 7 and weighing 0.13 gram hair.

Abstract

Aloe vera contains lignin, folic acid, vitamin A, and 20 types of amino acids, while Glycyrrhiza glabra L. contains glycyrrhizin, steroids, and beta-glycyrrhetinic acid that benefit for hair health. This research aimed to produce hair tonic with the best activity from the combination of aloe vera and licorice extract. The phytochemicals in the aqueous extract of licorice and Aloe vera were screened. The hair tonic was then prepared with 3 formulas using 7.5% Aloe vera extract and 2.5% licorice extract, as well as 96% ethanol with varying percentages, namely 5, 10, and 15%. Afterward, the formulas were tested for their activity as hair fertilizer on 4 white male rabbits for 28 days. The evaluation of hair tonic preparation included organoleptic observation, pH, specific weight, viscosity, and hedonic tests. It measured hair growth rate, the acceleration of hair growth, and hair weight. The results showed that hair tonic containing a mixture of 7.5% of Aloe vera extract, 2.5% of licorice extract, and 96% ethanol with different percentages (i.e., 5, 10, and 15%) created a good hair fertilizer. Hair tonic prepared with 15% of 96% ethanol exhibited an optimum activity. It was characterized by brown color, distinctive odor, homogeneity, a specific weight of 1.0577 g/mL, a viscosity of 2.8479 cP to distilled water, and pH 5.5. Its effectiveness as hair fertilizer was evidenced by a hair growth rate of 2.6617 cm in 28 days, a hair growth acceleration of 0.1635 cm/day, and a hair weight of 0.1854 gram in 28 days.

Abstract

Antioxidants have an important role in inhibiting free radicals, where free radicals can cause a hereditary disease. Natural medicines that are efficacious as an antioxidant are Gotu kola and kelor leaves. This study aimed to obtain the potential antioxidant compounds in Gotu kola herb extract, kelor leaves extract and the combination using the DPPH method. This research was started by extracting simplicia with 96% ethanol, followed by preparing combination of Gotu kola extract and moringa extract ratio (1:1), (1:2), (1:3), (2:1), (3:1) which was carried out at a concentration of 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 µl/mL. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity was tested by UV Vis spectrophotometry. Results showed that the IC50 value for the Gotu kola herb extract was 76.66 ± 0.56. Kelor leaves extract 82.66 ± 2.32, a combination of Gotu kola: Moringa (1:1) 74.07 ± 1.16, a combination of Gotu kola: Moringa (1:2) 86.56 ± 1.11, a combination of Gotu kola: Moringa (1:3) 65.09 ± 3.03, a combination of Gotu kola: Moringa (2:1) 56.65 ± 1.61, a combination of Gotu kola: Moringa (3:1) 67.58 ± 2.77. The best potential antioxidant activity was showed in the combination of Gotu kola: Moringa (2:1).

Abstract

Skin as the outermost layer of the body will be first exposed to UV light, and pollution which may form free radicals and lead to premature aging, so the application of antioxidants is indispensable. One of the skin cares that are in great demand is serum. A plant that has a high content of antioxidants and is widely cultivated in Indonesia is the chrysanthemum flower (Chrysanthemum indicum L.). Previous research stated that the IC50 value of chrysanthemums was 43.34 ppm. This study aimed to determine the IC50 value contained in chrysanthemum flower extract and formulate it into serum gel that contains antioxidants and meets physical parameters. The method used in determining the IC50 value is the DPPH method. The formulation was carried out by adding different levels of chrysanthemum flower extract to the formula. The evaluation test includes organoleptic, pH, spreadability, viscosity, and antioxidant activity and stability test at room temperature (25oC) and high temperature (40oC). The results obtained were IC50 values of chrysanthemum flower extracts was 32.78 ± 0.01 ppm while the IC50 of serum gel were 109.10 ± 0.1 ppm (F1) and 73.51 ± 0.08 ppm (F2) and after 4 weeks stored at room temperature the IC50 114.02 ± 0.09 ppm (F1) and 76.39 ± 0.06 ppm (F2). The conclusion is that chrysanthemum flower extract has a very strong antioxidant activity, and the serum gel has a strong antioxidant activity and is stable at both room temperature and 40oC for 4 weeks.

Abstract

The skin of the fruit that has not been used by humans and other living things so far, has a fairly good nutritional value for the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness and stability of the moisturizing cream. Fruit peel papaya and fruit peel rambutan were extracted respectively using ethanol 70% by maceration method, produced maserate, concentrated using a rotary evaporator. The combination of extracts was made into a cream preparation using the emulsification method. The resulting cream was evaluated for stability and effectiveness in humans. Skin moisture test showed that the increase in skin moisture value occurred in all formulas, where the highest percentage value was seen in F4, namely the initial moisture value of 46.99±3.908 and after 28 days of use it became 58.95±3.792 there was an increase in skin moisture value of 11 ,96, while in F1 as a positive control the results of the skin moisture value before use of 46.98 ± 4.634 and after using for 29 days it became 53.61 ± 4,888 there was an increase in skin moisture value of 6.63. The resulting cream is stable on storage for 3 months at temperatures of 250 and 400
