Abstract

The 1-phenyl-1-(quinazolin-4-yl) ethanol compounds are alkaloids of quinozoline class found in many Hydrangeaceae families. A survey revealed that most of the identified quinazolin derivatives have anticancer activity. Toxicity prediction of 1-phenyl-1-(quinazolin-4-yl) ethanols were performed to obtain the best three compounds with high activity and the lowest toxicity. Toxicity prediction was conducted using Toxtree, pkCSM and PreADMET. 2D structure of compounds were formed using ChemDraw. The decision tree approach was used in Toxtree application with endpoints including Cramer rules, Kroes TTC, carcinogenicity (genotoxic and non genotoxic) and in vitro mutagenicity. Graph based signature was used in pkCSM application with endpoints including mutagenicity, maximum daily dose, LD50 and hepatotoxicity. In PreADMET application, a method based on drugs similarity and ADMET properties was used with endpoints including mutagenicity, carcinogenicity to rat and mice. The results of data analysis showed that the best three anticancer compounds that have high activity and the lowest toxicity are compounds 14, 16 and 19.

Abstract

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a disease of the central nervous system. It is a progressive disorder, meaning it gets worse over time. PD usually characterized by tremor, rigidity, akinesia and postural autonomic instability. In addition, it may also cause a series of non-motor symptoms (NMSs). This disease affects a small area of cells in the middle of the brain. This area is called the substantia nigra (SNc). The cells slowly lose their ability to produce a chemical called dopamine. The disease usually appears in the age over 60 years. Nowadays, a lot of anti-Parkinson drugs have been found either from that of chemicals or herbs. In this essay anti-Parkinson drugs from chemical medicine and herbal medicines especially from china will be discussed. Anti-Parkinson's drugs are derived from chemical medicines include levodopa (l-dopa), dopamine agonists, MAO-B inhibitors, catechol O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors, anticholinergics and amantadine. Meanwhile, anti-Parkinson drugs derived from herbal medicine include Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc., green tea (Camellia sinensis L.), Panax ginseng C. A. Mey., Cistanche deserticola Y. C. Ma, Panax Notoginseng Wall. var notoginseng (Burkill.) F.H. Chen, Gastrodia elata Blume and Polygala tenuifoliaWilld.. These drugs have the same effects to help ease symptoms of Parkinson’s and can increase the amount of dopamine in substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc). However, some chemical drugs have more side effects although herbal medicines are less clear,  more tests need to be planned.

Abstract

Numerous coffee plantation workers are members of the Neglasari village farmer group, located in Sukawangi village, Bogor district. The problem frequently raised is coffee bean residue, which is typically discarded and provides an idea for the group to consider using it. This issue can be remedied by providing knowledge and direction regarding possible coffee bean husk residues. According to earlier studies, coffee bean skin includes polyphenols with potential antibacterial and antioxidant properties, allowing it to be formulated into skin-safe liquid soap solutions. Participants are productive-age men and female farmers with a constant motivation for entrepreneurship. Participants were provided with a direct explanation of the possibilities of coffee bean husk residue, followed by a short training on manufacturing liquid soap. Comparing the outcomes of the pre-test and post-test provided to participants is an indication of the activity's efficacy. Based on the collected results, it can conclude that the participant's comprehension of the presented material increased significantly (p < 0.05). It anticipated that the outcomes of this product development education and training would enable Farmer Group members to become home-based entrepreneurs.

Abstract

For Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) students, the introductory science concept course is part of the compulsory course. The understanding of PGSD students in basic science concepts will affect the quality of learning in the classroom. This research was conducted in odd semesters with 60 students who attended lectures on basic science concepts, and the sample selection was made randomly. To collect data on the effectiveness of the implementation of CCT, instruments used in the form of cognitive and clinical test questions have gone through validation and reliability tests. Students were divided into two groups in the study: the experimental group using CCT-based contextual learning as teaching materials and the control class using ordinary teaching materials. Based on the N-Gain data found in the field, there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups; the control class had an N-Gain value of 0.54, while the experimental class was 0.81. The data revealed that learning using CCT successfully increased students' understanding of concepts in the material cycle and created a better environment compared to the control class. However, based on interview data, both experimental and control class students were interested in learning the concept of the energy cycle and environmental pollution, and there was no significant difference.

Abstract

One of the problems related to the issue of damage to aquatic ecosystems due to environmental pollution in Indonesia is the use of surfactant-based detergents, which make it difficult for people to degrade naturally. Making environmentally friendly liquid detergent products made from MES surfactants can be a learning experience for students using the low-carbon STEM project-based learning model concept. This model is a more practical approach to developing creative thinking skills and is part of a learning community for continuous learning. This service activity is collaborative between universities and schools in applying STEM to chemistry learning. This activity is an alternative form of learning chemistry to stimulate students' fascination and interest in learning material, which is often considered challenging. The activity method uses group simulation and experimental methods to optimize material delivery. Based on evaluation data that was paired t-tested, there was a significant increase in students' understanding of the material (p<0.05) with an increase in the average test score from 40.44 to 89.56. Apart from that, most of the activity participants also showed active participation and enthusiasm.
