Abstract

Conjunction toki indicates time relation that expreesses actions that occur at the same time. Toki has three variants, they are toki, toki (ni), and toki (ni) wa. Each of them has its speciality of usage. Toki is the most neutral of all. The usage of particle (-ni) and (-ni) wa affects to the usage of toki in a sentence. Toki (ni) is used to express actions that happen one time, while toki (ni) wa expresses an general actions.

Abstract

Polysemy is the capacity for a word or phrase to have multiple related meanings. Tomaru verb is one of the polysemous verbs. This study aims to describe the basic meaning and the extended meaning of the verb tomaru in Japanese. Data collection in this study used the method of observing with the note-taking technique. In addition, the data analysis in this study used descriptive and agih methods. As for the presentation of the results of the analysis in this study using informal methods. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the verb tomaru has one basic meaning and seven extended meanings. The verb tomaru basic meaning is to stop. Meanwhile, the extended meaning namely something that comes out does not come out; something that flows becomes nonflowing; something sustainable becomes unsustainable; something that comes does not come; resting temporarily in a certain place; undetached, fixed in place; and what has been seen and heard leaves an impression

Abstract

Kuseni is a a conjunction used to connect contradicting clauses which is called gyakusetsu no setsuzokushi in Japanese. This study aims to determine how the structure and meaning of kuseni conjunction is in Japanese sentences. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive research. Kuseni is an adversative conjunction that connects contradictory clauses that contain criticism or reproach. Kuseni can be in the middle and at the end of a sentence, and can be attached to the class of verbs, nouns and adjectives in a sentence.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the formation of dajare and examine the effects of dajare on speech partners. The data in this study were taken from the anime series entitled Monogatari Series. Data from the anime series were collected using the contextual analysis method. The results showed seven dajare formation processes: homophones, mora change, metathesis mora, combining phrases, dividing phrases, mixing foreign languages, and moving commas. It was found that the effect of dajare on speech partners was mainly positive.

Abstract

 (Title: Fukugoukakujoshi To Doujini and To Tomoni in the Japanese Language) To doujini and to tomoni in Japanese are fukugoukakujoshi (compound particles) which are both used to express two things that occur or take place simultaneously. The purpose of this study is to describe the structure and meaning of fukugoukakujoshi to doujini and to tomoni in Japanese sentences. The method used in this research is Agih with Bagi Unsur Langsung techniques. Based on research it is known that structurally to doujini and to tomoni can be attached to verbs, adjectives, and nouns. In terms of to doujini it has three meanings, that was ‘at the same time’, ‘immediately after’, and ‘and also’; to tomoni also has three meanings, that was ‘at the same time’, ‘along with’, and ‘together with’.

Abstract

(Title: Comparison of Compounds Verbs -Kiru and -Nuku as Perfective Aspects Markers in Japanese) Compound verbs -kiru and -nuku are known as markers of perfective aspects that express the meaning of completion. This study aims to describe the similarities and differences in the meanings of compounds verbs -kiru and -nuku as markers of perfective aspects. The method used in this research is descriptive method. As a result of the study it was found that even though they stated the meaning of completion, the compound verb -kiru had a focus on the end point when the main part separated, while compound verb -nuku had a focus on the process. Besides adverb which follows the compound verb -kiru and  -nuku is not the same. Compound verb -kiru followed by adverb saigo made and subete, whereas compound verb -nuku is followed by adverb akumade, tetteiteki, ikkan shite, hitosuji ni, tokoton, and dokomademo.

Abstract

(Gairaigo) Loan word was born as a result of cultural and language contact with other countries. Loan word in Japanese or commonly known as gairaigo is known generally comes from English, but not entirely so. The purpose of this research is to describe the origin, form, and formation process of the loan word in Japanese, The method used is descriptive method. As the result of the research, it is found that Japanese loan word is not only from English; the form of loan word consists of 3 - 7 syllables; and entered into Japanese through adaptation and adoption process.Keywords: gairaigo, adaptation, adoption

Abstract

 (Title: Japanese verb compound words) As an agglutinative language, the formation of the word in Japanese is done morphologically. The word joins Japanese consists of compound words (複合 語), words reduplication (畳 語), and derivative words (派生 語). This study aims to describe the structure and relationship of the meaning of verb compound words. The method used is the descriptive method. As a result of the study, it was found that verb compound words have patterns (N + V), (V + V), (A + V), and (AD + V). The relation of the meaning of the pattern (N + V) is A subject B, object B, and A tool or material B. The relation of the meaning of the pattern (V + V) is the first/second element to lose its substantive meaning, the first and second elements cannot be described again, parallel relations (synonyms and antonyms). There is not much pattern (A + V) found. The pattern (AD + V) expresses the description of the situation with onomatopoeia.

Abstract

-You to suru form has two functions, i.e. as a marker of interpersonal modality and a marker of incoative aspects. This study aims to describe the structure and meaning of -you to suru form in order to use it in the right situation. The method used in this study is agih method, and bagi unsur langsung techniques. As a result of the research, it was found that -you to suru form as a marker of intention modality stated effort in doing something; and as a marker of the incoative aspect stated  the start of an activity. As a marker of intention modality, the form of -you to suru is attached to volitional verbs; while as a marker of the incoative aspect, -you to suru form is attached to both volitional and non volitional verbs.

Abstract

(Title: Conjunction Baai in Japanese Sentence) This research examines the structure and the meaning of baai. The method used in this research is the method of agih and descriptive. Baai is a keishiki meishithat functions as a conjunction. Baai combines clauses with clauses in compound sentences. The subordinate clause baai expresses the ingakankei relation with meaning toki, joutai, and jijou. Baai can be attached to nouns, verbs, adjectives.Keywords: baai; keishikimeishi; conjunction
