Abstract

Punan Dulau Village, Sekatak District, Bulungan Regency, has considerable agricultural land potential; however, limited farmer knowledge regarding soil pH management and dependence on chemical fertilizers remain challenges to improving land productivity. This community service program aimed to strengthen farmers’ capacity through socialization and hands-on training on the preparation of JADAM Liquid Fertilizer (JLF) as a locally based organic fertilizer alternative. The activity involved 35 farmers and applied an educative-participatory approach through interactive lectures, discussions, and practical demonstrations. Evaluation was conducted descriptively through observation and participant feedback. The results indicated an improvement in farmers’ understanding of soil management, enhanced technical skills in producing and applying JLF, and increased willingness to adopt locally sourced organic inputs. The program contributed to promoting more efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable agricultural practices.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of manure and varieties on growth and yield of cucumber. The experimental design used in this study was a randomized block design (RBD) factorial with four (4) factors and three (3) replicates. Factor I. Manure (P) consists of four treatments are: P0 = without fertilizer, PA = Manure Chicken, PK = Manure Goats, PS = Cow Manure. Factor II varieties (V) consists of two treatments are: V1 = Mercey F1, V2 = F1 Monza, in order to obtain 8 Interaction treatment. The parameters measured were plant length (cm), number of leaves (pieces), fruit length (cm), fruit diameter (mm), fruit weight (g). of the results showed that significantly affect manure crops 1-4 MST length, number of leaves 1-4 MST, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit berta. Varieties significant effect on plant length 2-4 MST. The number of leaves 3-4 MST, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit weight. While the length of interaction significantly affect plant 3-4 MST, MST 3-4 leaf number, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit weight.

Abstract

Antutan Village faces soil fertility problems due to high acidity caused by the intensive use of chemical fertilizers without being balanced with organic matter. This has resulted in low agricultural productivity, especially in rice and cocoa crops. As an alternative solution that is environmentally friendly and economical, Jadam Liquid Fertilizer (JLF) was introduced to farmers through socialization and demonstration activities. This activity aims to increase farmers' understanding of the benefits of organic fertilizer in improving soil fertility and provide skills in the manufacture and application of JLF independently. The method used in this activity includes the delivery of material on the negative impact of excessive use of chemical fertilizers, the importance of microorganisms in the soil, and the technique of making JLF using local materials such as weeds, rice straw, and banana stump. Live demonstrations were conducted to show the fermentation process as well as how to apply JLF on farmland. Farmers were given the opportunity to actively participate in every stage of JLF production and application. The results showed a positive response from farmers who were interested in adopting this technology as an alternative to organic fertilizer. With this socialization and demonstration, it is expected that farmers can reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and improve soil fertility in a sustainable manner. The application of JLF is expected to be the first step in the development of sustainable agriculture in Antutan Village.
