Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the effect of applying the Berlitz Method on Students' Preposition Mastery to eleventh-grade students of MA Raudhatul Ulum Kubu Raya. The sample of this research was the students of grade eleventh of MA Raudhatul Ulum Kubu Raya in the academic year of 2022/2023, which consisted of two classes. The total number of students was 30, divided into 15 students for the experimental class and another 15 students for the control class. The researcher used a multiple-choice test to collect the data. The test consisted of two types, namely pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using the t-test formula. To know the normality by utilizing the Chi-Square formula, homogeneity by measuring F-formula, validity and reliability by exerting Kuder Richardson Formula-20 or KR 20. The experimental class was taught by using Berlitz Method while the control class was taught using the method used by the English teacher at that school. The result of the research showed that the value of t-observed was higher than the value of t-table (293>2,16) at the level significance of α =  0,05 and the degree of freedom (df)= 13. The calculation concluded that applying Berlitz Method has a significant effect on students' preposition mastery or in other words the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out if eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 10 Pontianak's usage of the Undercover Game app affected their vocabulary success in the 2022–2023 academic year. In this study, a pre-experimental design was used. Thirty-two students studying social science made up the sample. Data from the pre- and post-tests were gathered, and a t-test was used for analysis. Twenty-five multiple-choice questions with four possible answers (a, b, c, and d) comprised the test. The post-test result was 2488, but the pre-test result was 2080. The data shows that the t-test result was 18.21. For thirty-one samples, the t table with 5% degree of freedom (df) is 2.039. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted based on the data analysis shown above, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected because the t-test result is greater than the value indicated in the t-table (18.21>2.039). Furthermore, the effect size is 3.09, falling into the high effect (>0.8) category. In summary, there was a significant impact on students' vocabulary achievement when the Undercover Game programme was implemented. For this reason, Undercover Game comes highly recommended as a useful instrument for improving vocabulary in students.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve students’ vocabulary by using the Bingo Game to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 04 Teluk Keramat in academic year 2022/2023. The research was conducted in class VII C which consisted of 24 students. The method applied in this research was Classroom Action Research. This research was carried out in two cycles. In this research, the data was collected by using field note, an observation checklist and an individual test. The result of the research showed that the use of the Bingo Game could gradually improve the students’ vocabulary. By using the Bingo Game, the students were able to actively participate in the teaching and learning process, understanding the meaning and description of the target vocabulary. Moreover, the significant improvement can also be seen from the number of students whose scores reached the standard minimum score. In the cycle 1, there were only 9 students whose scores reached the standard minimum score and there were 15 students who could not reach the standard minimum score for English Subject. However, all of the students passed the standard minimum score in cycle 2. Therefore, this research had gradually improved the students’ vocabulary by using the Bingo Game.
