Abstract

Assessment is an integral part of an outcome-based education (OBE) system. It helps ensuring student learning and ultimately attaining the expected outcomes at the time of graduation. Records of assessment results enable a study program to conduct continual improvement of its education activities. This paper reports the development of an information system and technology that helped Civil Engineering Program of Islamic University of Indonesia to ensure Program Learning Outcomes (PLO) attainment by its students in its gear towards obtaining an international accreditation. The system was implemented as an online web application that includes students, faculty, student advisors, and program manager as the users. The system allows to, firstly, define the PLOs, their performance indicators (PI), and the scoring system of PLO attainment, including setting up of required minimum attainment level. Secondly, for each PLO, a road map that defines the structural relationship between all PLO PIs and the selected courses throughout the semesters in which those indicators are to be measured (i.e. as course learning outcomes) must be defined. Once these relationships are firmly fixed and mapped, the system is ready to assist the program manager, student advisors, and individual students to conduct monitoring and evaluation (self-evaluation in student’s case) of program and course learning outcomes achievement. System’s important features are highlighted along with discussion on development strategies, current operational status, as well as challenges for future development.

Abstract

Setiap permukaan perkerasan memiliki sifat yang berbeda-beda yang berpengaruh terhadap lingkungan sekitarnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami sifat termal dari permukaan perkerasan, seperti profil albedo dan temperatur serta memberikan pertimbangan dalam mengembangkan perkerasan sejuk. Empat jenis permukaan perkerasan yang digunakan, aspal hot mix baru, aspal hot mix lama, chip seal dan permukaan perkerasan beton semen portland. Nilai albedo diselidiki dengan menghitung rasio radiasi yang datang dan  yang dipantulkan. Profil suhu diselidiki dengan perekaman menerus menggunakan thermocouple. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif antara albedo dengan temperatur dimana semakin tinggi albedo maka semakin rendah temperatur permukaan perkerasan.

Abstract

TransJogja is a public bus system that serves Yogyakarta city and its vicinity using mid-sized air conditioned buses. The system, that was introduced in February 2008, currently runs daily from 05.30 to 21.30 on it 4 trunk routes. Recently, a plan of opening some feeder routes has been considered to expand its service coverage so as to include potential trip generator regions, including areas along Yogyakarta – Kaliurang road. The purpose of this study was twofold, i.e. to investigate prospective passengers’ willingness to pay (WTP) TransJogja service planned to run Yogyakarta – Kaliurang route and to study which factors that likely determine the formation of passengers’ WTP. Stated preference technique was used to collect prospective passengers’ opinion on the price that they would pay provided certain service characteristics. In a view that one’s WTP may also be influenced by his/her own socioeconomic background in addition to the service features offered, respondents’ socioeconomic information such as age, gender, income level, etc. were also collected and used to study their influence to the stated price to pay. Based on 655 observations, a majority of 26,1% respondents stated 3.000 rupiahs as the price they would pay for Yogyakarta-Kaliurang TransJogja services, while another 23,97% stated 2.000 rupiahs. These prices correspond to various combinations of service features, including varied seating capacity, inclusion or exclusion of air conditioning system (AC), bus stops, varied peak and off-peak headway, varied service hours, and application of special rates for students. Further study using multiple linear regression method indicated that respondents’ socioeconomic features that include one’s gender, age, place of stay (along Kaliurang Rd or otherwise), and monthly transportation-related expenditure had a greater share in determining his/her WTP, rather than service features that include seating capacity, AC, and student’s special rate. Therefore, it was recommended that the concerned office should take consumers’ socioeconomic factors into consideration in their future decision on passenger tariff should the Yogyakarta-Kaliurang route of TransJogja services is to open.

Abstract

The Benkelman Beam method is used to design overlay thickness on a flexible pavement based on its maximum rebound deflection representing its structural capacity. This method has been adopted in the 2017 Bina Marga Design Manual applicable for Indonesian road design since June 2017. This research was aimed to develop a tool that can facilitate rebound deflection data analysis and overlay thickness design based on the overlay design curves adopted in the Bina Marga guide. Visual Basic 6.0 was used as the environment for the development. In addition to the standard curves, the tool added four intermediate curves corresponding to the design load of 7.5x106, 3.5x106, 1.5x106, and 0.75x106 ESALs to enable more economical designs. Furthermore, a manual overlay procedure was conducted using overlay data from Sampaan – Singosaren, Kowangan – Maron, and Imogiri Barat road sections to validate the usability of the developed tool. The validation showed an acceptable difference of less than 2% between results obtained from the software and the manual calculations.

Abstract

Acquiring accurate condition out of pavement evaluation can prove to be a challenge, particularly for local road agencies in Indonesia with limited resources. Conventionally, road condition is expressed in terms of the Surface Distress Index (SDI) and the International Roughness Index (IRI) that need time-consuming and labor-intensive road surveys. Advancements in smartphone technology has paved the way to a lower-cost and more rapid pavement evaluation by using applications such as Roadroids for IRI measurements. This study is aimed at exploring the viability of Roadroids-based IRI for pavement evaluation purposes. Klangon-Tempel road section in Yogyakarta Special Province was selected as the study area, on which a manual SDI and two Roadroid-IRI surveys were conducted. The two Roadroid surveys involved two different vehicle types: a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a multi-purpose vehicle. The results showed that MPV-survey produced higher IRI values and were more consistent with pavement distresses observed through SDI survey, demonstrating a strong correlation coefficient of r=0.813. In contrast, SUV-survey showed significantly lower IRI values that overestimate overall pavement condition of the study area. No detailed investigation was made, but MPV features such as lower ground clearance and softer suspension system may contribute to cause the different outcomes. Complementing this, a range-based SDI–IRI analysis showed that SDI and IRI are consistent at low-distress levels but display substantial overlap across medium-to-high SDI categories, reflecting their inherently non-linear relationship. The findings suggests that, with appropriate type of vehicle, Roadroid can be a viable choice to conduct rapid IRI-based pavement evaluation, and thereby complement the traditional SDI surveys.
