Abstract

This study extends the literature on relationship between economic growth, income inequalities, and poverty reduction. We discuss poverty reduction, using the case ofIndonesia, as one of the Millennium Development Goals declared by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2000. Using provincial level data of Indonesia from 1993 to 2000, we examine the required conditions in order to halve the poverty in Indonesia by2015. The result of analysis shows that Indonesia would need to achieve constantly 8 percent economic growth in order to halve the poverty rate by 2015. In addition, analysis on the relationship of income inequalities and poverty reduction in Indonesia also shows that improvement on income distribution will have fairly significant impact in poverty reduction. Keywords: economic growth, income inequalities, and poverty reduction

Abstract

This study explores the effect of zakat and non-zakat empowerment programs on the beneficiaries' welfare (mustahiq). This study focuses on the influence of the intervening variable, namely the mustahiq businesses' growth on mustahiq welfare. This study also examines the role of demographic characteristics, such as age, gender, and years of education on mustahiq business growth. This study employs the Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) using data from 100 respondents who received empowerment assistance from three different zakat institutions. The sample of mustahiq was selected from three zakat institutions to provide a diversity of respondents. The results indicate that zakat and non-zakat programs' empowerment through business growth has significantly affected mustahiq welfare. With these results, both zakat and non-zakat productive programs should be more developed to assist the community businesses' growth optimally. Previous studies measure the welfare of mustahiq with material aspects. In this study, the indicator of welfare is based on maqashid sharia, which includes the protection of Ad-Din (religion), An-Nafs (Soul), Al-Aql (intellect), Al-Nasl (descendant), and Al-Maal (wealth). Examining the impact of two variables, namely productive empowerment programs through zakat and non-zakat, on mustahiq business growth and welfare is the novelty of this study.

Abstract

Community welfare is the key to assess the success of an area. The government has a vital role in realizing community welfare. This study aims to evaluate the role of government related to the efficiency of government spending in creating conditions for a prosperous society in the Regency/City in East Java Province in 2011-2015. The efficiency calculation in this study uses the DEA Bootstrapping method with the assumption of Variable Return to Scale (VRS). In contrast, the assessment of the level of community welfare uses the Human Development Index from an Islamic perspective or Islamic Human Development Index (I-HDI). This study also calculated changes in total factor productivity (TFPC) using the Malmquist Index. The data used is sourced from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance of the Ministry of Finance. The results of this study are the performance of regency/city governments in East Java has not yet reached an efficient condition. For the TFPC value, only three regions experienced an increase, one region was in a state of stagnation, while 34 other regions experienced a decrease in the value of TFPC.Keywords: Efficiency of Government Expenditure, Islamic Human Development Index, DEA Bootstrapping and Malmquist Index.REFFERENCE Afifah, F. Abstract

Education is one aspect of development that is included in non-physical development. Therefore, it is important to assurance the quality of education in order to have an impact on sustainable development in various fields, especially human resources and the economy of a country. This study uses the Importance Performance Analysis method to measure how far the performance results are towards the expected level of importance of Al Rosyid Islamic Boarding School students in Bojonegoro. This research is focused on the quality of Islamic boarding school education, this is because Islamic boarding schools are Islamic education in Indonesia most of which are based in the regions. So this can be used as a reference for assessing the quality of education for Islamic boarding schools in regional areas to enhance human and economic development. The results of this study indicate that students there are satisfied with the results of the performance of Islamic boarding schools in managing education both academic, non-academic, and diniyah. Although said to be satisfied, the expectations of students and some boarding school dwellers still do not meet the values determined by them. Most still expect improvements. Therefore this study is very necessary for decision makers to be able to see new perspectives in non-physical based development, especially in the field of sustainable education. Keywords: economy, development, economic development, Islamic economic development, education, quality of education, Islamic boarding school

The study was conducted using a quantitative approach. The control variables used for this research are Gross Domestic Product (GDP), education level, investment, and government subsidies. The analysis technique used is Autoregressive Ditributed Lags (ARDL). The data in this study were obtained from the Central Statistics Agency page, BAZNAS, and Indonesian State Budget (Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara). The research results partially in short term shows that ZIS has a positive and significant effect on unemployment. While partially long-term research results, ZIS has a negative and significant effect on unemployment. Simultaneously, the variable ZIS, GDP, education level, investment, and government subsidies have significant effects in the short and long term on unemployment in Indonesia in 2002-2017.Keywords: Zakat, Infaq, Shadaqah, Unemployment, Gross Domestic Product, Education Level, Investment, Subsidies, BAZNASREFFERENCE Abdullah, M. dan Sapiei, N.
