Abstract

This study aims to determine epistemological beliefs, beliefs in learning mathematics with eliciting activities model, and the relationship between the two on prospective mathematics teachers. Quantitative research method using a survey, which was conducted on 52 students of prospective mathematics teachers. Data collection is done by using a questionnaire. This study uses a questionnaire from TEDS-M which investigates the beliefs of prospective mathematics teachers about teaching mathematics. Data analysis will be carried out quantitatively, both descriptively and by correlation. The results showed that 1) mathematics teacher candidates had mixed beliefs, namely static and dynamic, but more static beliefs about the dominant mathematical epistemology: 2) The application of eliciting activities model learning, mathematics teacher candidates had mixed beliefs, namely conventional and constructive, but more on dominant constructivist beliefs and 3) practical implications for prospective mathematics teachers and the application of learning models must begin with testing or understanding the beliefs of prospective mathematics teachers regarding the epistemology of mathematics.

Abstract

Abstract

One way to improve the quality of learning is by increasing the relevance of the teaching model. The teaching model is said to be relevant if in the process it can deliver students achieve educational goals. Therefore, efforts are needed to be able to convey the subject matter to students with models that are relevant to student needs. One alternative is to use a scaffolding-based inquiry learning model. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of a scaffolding-based inquiry learning model on the mathematics learning outcomes of the tenth graders of SMA Kyai Ageng Basyariyah. The samples in this study were two classes, namely, class XA and XB which were selected using the cluster random sampling technique. This study uses a Quasi-Experimental Design research design. The form of quasi-experimental design used in this study is the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistics. The data collection technique used in this study is a measurement technique. The results showed that the data were analyzed using the t-test at a significant level of 5%, namely the results of >, namely 1,932 > 1,701. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the use of the scaffolding-based inquiry learning model influences the mathematics learning outcomes of the tenth graders of SMA Kyai Ageng Basyariyah.

Abstract

The low level of students’ mathematical literacy in Indonesia, as indicated by the results of the Minimum Competency Assessment and various previous studies, highlights the need to improve the instructional models used in schools. This study examines the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of developing Information Literacy-Based Inquiry Learning. The development model used in this study is adapted from Plomp which consists of five phases: (1) the preliminary investigation phase, (2) the design phase, (3) the realization/construction phase, (4) the testing, evaluation, and revision phase, and (5) the implementation phase. The subjects in this study were 63 grade X high school students in Madiun district. Data collection techniques used in this study were validation sheets, response questionnaires, and students' mathematical literacy tests. The average score from the teaching module validation was 3.86, categorized as good, and all validators confirmed that the developed mathematical literacy test instrument was valid. In the trial, the average score from the student response questionnaire was 4.02, which was also in the good category. The average student's mathematical literacy score in this trial was 79.5. Therefore, it can be concluded that the development of the model is valid, practical, and effective.
