Abstract

The study was meant to know the relationship between self-efficacyand social support with burnout among nurses. Proposed hypotheses were asfollowed: 1) burnout correlated with self-efficacy dan social support; 2) selfefficacynegatively correlated with burnout, the lower self-efficacy was, thehigher was the burnout; 3) social support negatively correlated with burnout, thehigher social support was, the lower was the burnout. Te subject of the study consisted of 97 nurses of PKU MuhammadiyahHospital at Jogjakarta. Data was collected through questionnaire method usingburnout, self-efficacy and social support scales. Statistical method usedregression analysis with SPSS for Windows and SPS-2000 of Sutrisno Hadi. The results showed that: 1) there was significant correlation betweenself-efficacy and social support with burnout ( R= 0.784, F= 75.005, p < 0.01)and it contributed as much as 61.5 % ; 2) self-efficacy had significantly negativecorrelation with burnout ( r= - 0.289, t= - 2.923, p < 0.01) and it contributed asmuch as 22.307 % ; 3) social support correlated significantly with burnout(r= - 0.448, t= - 4.852 , p < 0.01) and it contributed as much as 39.169 %.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBurnout  is  a  psychological  response  to  work  stress  that  is  characterized  by emotional  exhaustion,  depersonalization,  and  reduced  feeling  of  personal accomplishment (low personal accomplishment). This paper intends to explain one of the variables that the results of some studies have shown to have a role in burnout , which is self  –  efficacy.  Self-efficacy is the beliefs about one’s ability to accomplish specific tasks. Self-efficacy  affects  employees’  level  to  effort  and  persistence  when  learning  difficult tasks.  A  number  of  research  study  was  found  that  perceived  sense  of  self-efficacy  was correlated  with  perceived  burnout  :  the  lower  the  sense  of  self-efficacy  more  was perceived burnout. The individuals having low self-efficacy have not much control of their behavior and actions. They are more vulnerable to burnout.Key words :Burnout, Self-Efficacy

Abstract

The research was aim to find out the relationship between self-efficacy and social support with burnout among nurses. Proposed hypotheses were as followed: 1). burnout correlated  with  self-efficacy  dan  social  support,  2).  Self-efficacy  negatively  correlated with burnout, the lower self-efficacy was, the higher was the burnout; 3) social support negatively  correlated  with  burnout,  the  higher  social  support  was,  the  lower  was  the burnout.  This  research  also  create  a  new  model  of  competencies  in  a  way  to  cope  the burnout happened, considered to nurses work load. The  subject  of  the  research  consisted  of  94  nurses  of  “XYZ”  Hospital  of Surakarta. Data was collected through questionnaire method using burnout scales, self efficacy scales and social support scales.  Statistical method used regression analysis with SPSS for Windows11.5.The  results  showed  that  there  was  significant  correlation  between  self-efficacy and social support with burnout (R= 0.743, F= 56.209, p < 0.05) and it contributed as much as 55.3  %.  Self-efficacy  had  significantly  negative  correlation  with  burnout  (t=  -6.250 , p < 0.05). Social support also had significantly negative correlation with burnout (t= -3.106 , p<0.05).Key words: self-efficacy, social support, burnout
