Abstract

Abstract

Much empirical evidence suggest that countries with high growth export ratestend to enjoy a high economic growth. Increasing the volume of exports directlyincreases national income through a national income equation. A recent theorysuggests that exports increase national income indirectly through spill over effectsthat improve income and reduction costs.  This paper attempts to investigate the role of exports in explaining the growth of the economy, both directly and indirectly, in two countries Singapore and Indonesia, following the economics model developed by Feder, 1982, based on the framework anlysis developed by previous authors in these fields (Michalopoulos and Jay, 1973 and Balasa, 1978). The paper starts by presenting a short description of the economic background of Indonesia and Singapore (in section 2). Section 3 discusses the anlytical framework and economerics models used in this investigation, and section 4 presents the empirical analysis and comparison of the results in this two cases.

Abstract

The rising concern of global warming has spurred numerous organizations and companies worldwide to adopt green business strategies, which integrate environmental management with Human Resource Management (HRM), notably through implementing Green HRM (GHRM). The Indonesian government has also promoted eco-green applications in support of environmental sustainability in various government institutions, including state-owned banks, as a pioneer in the GHRM program. The research evaluated the influence of green training and development on organizational commitment among employees at a state-owned bank. The research raised the novelty by modifying indicators that were relevant to banking activity. Additionally, it examined the role of green behavior as a mediating factor in the relationship between green training and organizational commitment. The research involved 200 employees from the head office of a state-owned bank, using non-probability and convenience sampling methods. Then, data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and the Smart PLS 3.0 software. The findings indicate that green training and development significantly influence green behavior, substantially enhancing organizational commitment. A shift towards a more environmentally conscious work culture strengthens employees’ commitment. The management of the state-owned bank, particularly the HRM departments, is advised to focus on enhancing and implementing GHRM practices. The practices include integrating green training and development into their in-person and online programs to promote green behavior and positively impact employee organizational commitment. The research underscores the mediating role of green behavior in the relationship between green training and organizational commitment, although the direct effects are more pronounced than indirect ones.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of an ethical work environment on the intention to report wrongdoing, with job satisfaction and self-efficacy as mediating factors, drawing from the Theory of Planned Behavior. The research was conducted at a state-owned bank, employing purposive sampling to gather data from 210 banking employees in Jakarta, Indonesia. Hypothesis testing utilized Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Lisrel 8.80 program. The findings indicate that an ethical work climate has a positive influence on job satisfaction, self-efficacy, and whistleblowing intention. However, job satisfaction exerts a negative impact on whistleblowing intention, and therefore does not mediate the relationship between the ethical work environment and whistleblowing intention. Meanwhile, self-efficacy positively affects whistleblowing intention, but similarly does not mediate the relationship with ethical work climate. This study demonstrates that the intention to behave is the primary determinant of a person's actions and is not significantly influenced by the two tested mediating variables, following the Theory of Planned Behavior.
