Abstract

For the last six years in a row, the yield of peanut in Indonesia had encountered the decreasingyield problem. In case of that, the using chicken manure as organic material and NPK (15:15:15)fertilizer were aimed to increase growth and yield of peanut. The research has been conducted at theexperimental fields of Agriculture Faculty, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan from October 2013until February 2014. This research used factorial randomized block design with two factors, i.e.doses of chicken manure (0; 25; 50; 75 g/polybag) and doses of NPK (15:15:15) fertilizer (0; 0,625;1,25; 1,875 g/polybag). Parameters observed were number of branches, flowering age, gynophoresformed, pods per sample, pods per plot, seed weight per sample, dry weight of 100 seeds, freshweight of biomass, and dry weight of biomass. The results showed that the treatment of usingchicken manure significantly influenced the parameters of branches, gynophores formed persample, pods per sample, pods per plot, seed weight per sample, wet weight biomass per sample anddry weight biomass per sample. The treatment of NPK (15:15:15) significantly influenced theflowering age and dry weight of 100 seeds. The interaction between the both of treatmentsignificantly influenced dry weight of 100 seeds.Keywords : peanut, chicken manure, NPK (15:15:15) fertilizer

Abstract

Palm oil is one of the major and prime agricultural commodities in Indonesia. Better palm oilseedling growth depend on nutrient and organic matter availability that can be fullfilled by usingpalm oil mill effluent (POME) and NPKMg (15:15:6:4) fertilizer. The objectives of the researchwere to study growth response of palm oil pre nursery seedling to aplication of POME and NPKMg(15:15:6:4) fertilizer.  The research was held at  screen house of Agricultural Faculty USU            (±25 m asl) in April to July 2014 using a factorial randomized block design with two factors and threereplications. The first factor were POME (0; 1.5; 3.0; 4.5 l/seedling) and the second factor wereNPKMg (15: 15: 6: 4) fertilizer (0; 2.5; 5.0; 7.5 g/seedling). Data were analyzed with ANOVA andcontinued with Duncan multiple range test. The Parameters observed were plant height,      stemdiameter, leaves number, total leaf area, leaves greenness, fresh and dry root and upper part weight.The results obtain were the effect of POME until dose L (3.0 l/seedling) were increase for allparameters except leaves greenness, fresh and dry root. The effect of  NPKMg (15:15:6:4)  fertilizeruntil dose P22 (5.0 g/seedling) increase for all parameters except stem diameter. The interaction ofthese two factors until L3Pwere increase leaves number, leaves greenness, fresh root weight, freshand dry upper part weight.Keywords:  palm oil mill effluent, NPKMg (15:15:6:4) fertilizer, palm oil seedling 3

Abstract

Volcanic ash had an acidic pH may degrade agricultural lands and the result of shallot production.The composition of giving about the volcanic ash, rice husk charcoal and rice straw compos canhelp the availability of nutrients through the release of organic acids thereby creating a plantingmedium that supports the growth and production of shallot. The objective of the research was todetermine the effect of composition of giving about the volcanic ash, rice husk charcoal and strawcompost on the growth of shallot. The research was done at experimental field of AgriculturalFaculty, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan in July-September 2014. The research usedrandomize block design with seven treathments and three replications. This study used arandomized block design Non Factorial with ten treatments and three replications. Parameterobserved were tillers number, wet weight per sample, wet weight per plot, dry weight per sample,dry weight per plot. The results of research showed that the composition of giving about thevolcanic ash, rice husk charcoal and straw compost influence significantly the parameters of tillersnumber 4 MST. There are no significant different for wet weight per sample, wet weight per plot,dry weight per sample, dry weight per plot.. The composition of giving volcanic ash 5 ton/ha + ricehusk charcoal 5 ton/ha + straw compost 3,75 ton/ha was the the best composition to produce tillersnumber of shallots.Keywords : rice husk charcoal, shallot, straw compost, volcanic ash

Abstract

The objective of the research was to know effect of chemical dormancy breaking treatments on theviability of pomegranate seeds. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed Technology,Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan with a height of ± 25 meters above sealevel, in July 2014, using a completely randomized design with 10 level dormancy breakingtreatments (control, seed soaking treatment with H2SO4 (70%, 80%, 90 %), seed soaking treatmentwith KNO3 (0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%), and seed soaking treatment with HCl (50%, 60%, 70%)).Parameters observed were germination rate (day), normal seedling (%), abnormal seedling (%),seeds that have not grown (%), and vigor index. The results showed that seed soaking treatmentwith H2SO4 significantly affect normal seedling, rate of germination, seeds that have not grown andvigor index but no significant effect on abnormal sprouts.Keyword : pomegranate seeds, dormancy, viability

Abstract

Using traditional medicine growing rapidly lately. One of medicinal plant that have been developedis sabrang shallot (Eleutherine americana Merr.) This research aims for getting the best time anddose application of sabrang shallot. The researched was carried out at Field Trials of AgricultureFaculty North Sumatera University ( ± 25 m dpl) on May-October 2014, using a FactorialRandomized Block design with two factors are time aplication (2 weeks before planting, 1 weekbefore planting and when planting) and dose application of husk (1,5; 3; 4,5; 6 kg/plot or 10, 20, 30,40 ton/ha) by three replication. Data were analized with ANNOVA and continued with DuncanMultiple Range Test (DMRT). The parameters observed were age sprouts, plant height, number ofleaves, age flowering , number of tillers, number of bulbs per sample, wet bulbs weight per sample.The results of research shows that time and dose application of husk were significantly differ forplant height, number of leaves and number of sprouts.Key words : Time application, dose of husk , sabrang shallot.

Abstract

This research has been conducted to study the effect of nitrogen fertilizer and zeolite on growth of tobacco. This research has been conducted in screen house at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan (± 25 m above sea level) during September until November 2014 using factorial randomized block design with two factors are nitrogen fertilizer (0; 9,02; 18,04 g ZA/plant) and zeolite ( 0; 31,5; 63,1; 94,6 g/plant). The parameters observed were plant height, diameter of stem, numbers of leaf, greennes of leaf and summarize of leaf area. The results of the research showed that nitrogen fertilizers increased plant growth of tobacco Deli, zeolites and both of interaction has not increase plant growth of tobacco Deli.Key words : nitrogen, zeolite, Deli tobacco.

Abstract

The using of herbal medicine has increasing rapidly recently. One of the medical plant that has been developing is bawang sabrang. The aim of the research is to find out the proper dosage of humic acid and empty palm bunches compost for cultivated of bawang sabrang. Research was conducted at experimental field Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan about 25 m above sea level started from June until October 2014, used randomized block design, with two factors which are humic acid at several doses (0 g/plot, 1 g/plot, 2 g/plot, 3 g/plot) and palm empty fruit bunches compost at several doses (0 kg/plot, 0,5 kg/plot, 1 kg/plot dan 1,5 kg/plot) and was repeated three times. Data were analyzed by using ANOVA and continued with Duncan. Parameters were observed is net assimilation rate, relative growth rate, number of tillers, fresh bulb weight and number of bulb. The result showed that the effect of humic acid were increasing the net assimilation rate at fifth week after planting (WAP). The effect of empty palm bunches compost were increased the relative growth at four week and net assimilation rate at fifth week. The interaction between humic acid and empty palm bunches compost were increased the net assimilation rate at fifth week, but the effect of giving humic acid and empty palm bunches compost at number of tillers, fresh bulb weight and number of bulb parameters has not real.Keywords: humic acid, compost of empty palm bunches, Eleutherine americana Merr.

Abstract

Cryopreservation is a technique for long-term storage nuftah plasma. In this technique cells and meristem or other parts of plants were frozen and stored in liquid nitrogen at a temperature -196°C. The objective of the reseacrh was to know effects of type and duration of soaking cryoprotectant on the viability of roselle seed in cryopreservation. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed Technology Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan with a height ± 25 meters above sea level, from September to October 2014, using a randomized block design with 2 factors. The first factor is the type of cryoprotectant with 4 type of PVS1 ; PVS2; PVS3; PVS4 and the second factor of soaking cryoprotectant with 3 levels of 60 minutes; 90 minutes; 120 minutes. Parameter observed were the rate of germination (day), normal seedling (%), abnormal seedling (%), seeds die (%), vigor index, fresh weight of seedling (g), dry weight of seedling (g). The results showed soaking treatment of various types of cryoprotectant significant effect on the observation parameters the rate of germination (day), normal seedling (%), vigor index, fresh weight of seedling (g) and dry weight of seedling (g). Treatment of soaking cryoprotectant significant effect on the observation parameters abnormal seedling (%) and vigor index. Interaction type and duration of soaking cryoprotectant significant effect observation parameters on the rate of germination (day) and vigor index. Abstract

Pomegranate seed requires dormancy breaking treatment to encourage germination. One of dormancy breaking treatments that can be done is soaking on sulphuric acid (H2SO4). This study aimed to determine the effect of concentration and duration of soaking sulphuric acid (H2SO4) on the viability of pomegranate seeds. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed Technology Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatra Utara, Medan with a height of ± 25 meters above sea level, in April 2015, using a completely randomized design with 10 degree factor dormancy breaking treatments that seed soaking treatment with H2SO4 (25%, 50%, 75%) with duration of soaking (10 minutes, 15 minutes, and 20 minutes). Parameters measured were tetrazolium test (%), germination rate (day), normal seedling (%), abnormal seedling (%), seed that has not grown (%), vigor index, fresh weight seedling (g), dry weight seedling (g). The results showed that seed soaking treatment with 75% H2SO4 for 10 minutes increased the percentage of germination rate (day), normal seedling (%),vigor index, fresh weight seedling (g), dry weight seedling (g), but not to tetrazolium test (%).Keywords: pomegranate seeds, viability, dormancy, sulphuric acid

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh populasi dan pemberian pukan ayam terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi bawang merah (Allium ascalonicum L.). Penelitian dilakukan di lahan penduduk, Kota Medan pada Agustus sampai November 2015. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Petak Terpisah dengan 2 faktor yaitu dosis pukan ayam sebagai petak utama (0, 12.5 dan 25 ton/ha) dan populasi tanaman sebagai anak petak (25, 50, 75 dan 100 tanaman/m2). Parameter yang digunakan adalah panjang  tanaman, jumlah daun, jumlah anakan, bobot basah per sampel, bobot kering per sampel, bobot basah per plot, bobot kering per plot dan diameter umbi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian pukan ayam berpengaruh nyata pada panjang tanaman, jumlah anakan, bobot basah umbi per plot dan bobot kering umbi per plot. Interaksi antara keduanya  berpengaruh nyata pada parameter panjang tanaman dan jumlah anakan. Berdasarkan bobot kering umbi per plot yang terbaik (1287.92 g ) maka perlakuan terbaik adalah pukan ayam 25 ton/ha, sedangkan jumlah populasi berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap semua perlakuan.
