Abstract

Minyak Kelapa Sawit (Crude Palm Oil/CPO) merupakan salah satu tanaman khas Sumatera yang berpotensi sebagai sediaan antioksidan. Bentuk sediaan mikroemulsi dipilih karena dapat meningkatkan penetrasi CPO ke dalam kulit. Oleh karena itu, pada penelitian ini akan dibentuk sediaan mikroemulsi mengandung CPO dan diuji aktivitas antioksidannya. Mikroemulsi CPO diformulasikan menggunakan metode Phase Titration Method dengan CPO sebagai fase minyak, tween 80 sebagai surfaktan, PEG 400 sebagai kosurfaktan dan aquadest sebagai fase air. Formula optimum dari penelitian ini mengandung 5% (b/b) CPO,  20% (b/b) tween 80, 10% (b/b) PEG 400, dan 65% (b/b) air. Hasil evaluasi formula menunjukkan bahwa formula ini memiliki ukuran globul sebesar 288,87 ± 20,94 nm, zeta potensial sebesar -0,36 mV, bobot jenis 1,024 ± 6,15x10-5 g/mL dan pH berada pada rentang 4,5-6,5. Dari evaluasi stabilitas didapat bahwa sediaan stabil dalam penyimpanan selama 28 hari di suhu ruang (25ºC), stabil terhadap perubahan suhu ekstrim dan terhadap agitasi. Sediaan mikroemulsi CPO ini memiliki nilai IC50 sebesar 10,5 µg/mL yang menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat. Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa sediaan mikroemulsi CPO memiliki karakterisasi fisik dan kestabilan yang baik dan dapat dikembangkan lebih lanjut sebagai sediaan antioksidan pada kulit.

Abstract

As emerged the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Indonesia, causing the increased number of death. Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia allowed the distance learning method due the prevention of transmission COVID-19. Institut Teknologi Sumatera ordered the implementation of distance learning method by accessing the online courses since 18th March 2020 to 29th May 2020. One of the obstacle for implementation the distance learning in Departement of Chemistry is the achievement of practical skill competencies. This study describes the implementation of alternative laboratory practice in home at one of biochemistry topic using daily chemical and been adjusted with Department of Chemistry learning outcomes and curriculum. Design of this study is one-shot case study and subjects were the 92 of second year college students at Department of Chemistry, Institut Teknologi Sumatera. Instruments of this study are quesioner guideline and student practicum report. The result of implementation the alternative laboratory practice in home were 71.7% of students well-understood the instruction in handbook, 82.6% of students agreed that the topic of distance laboratory practice been accordance with the curriculum, and 80.4% of students were able to elaborate other useful topic of implementation laboratory practice in daily life. Around 86.9% of students could make the good practicum report. Implementation of chemistry laboratory practice using daily chemical in home could be considered as one of alternative distance laboratory practice to achieve the practical skill competencies.

Abstract

The era of industrial revolution 4.0 contributes major challenges in 21st century of education in obtaining qualified students. Education process lead to the development of student skills and attitudes in addition to the knowledge learning process. Critical thinking skills (KBKr) is one of the 21st century learning skills that students should have and needs to be practiced during learning process in school. One of the learning method to practice KBKr is discovery-inquiry learning method. The purpose of this study is obtain the affect of discovery-inquiry learning method on student’s critical thinking skill achievement in topic of solubility. Method of research is pre-experimental and one-shot case study as the design of method research. Subjects were 41 students at one of the senior high school in Bandung. Instruments of this research are six questions of written test and interview guidelines. Highest achievement at the whole sub indicators is the high ability student’s group. Overall, the student’s critical thinking skill achievement on factors affecting solubility’s learning with discovery-inquiry is good.

Abstract

Indonesia has a diversity of hot spring as a habitat of bacteria. One of the hot springs is Natar hot spring, Lampung. This study is to report the characteristics of a bacterium called Nat1 isolate that produces amylase to degrade raw starch from Natar hot spring. Water samples were taken from hot springs with a temperature of 45°C and a pH of 7.0. Nat1 was isolated by screening on the medium of Starch-Luria Bertani at 37°C. Its amylase-producing bacteria showed an optimum amylolytic activity of a crude enzyme of Nat1 isolate in soluble starch was 267.2774 U/mL at 60°C. Genotypic identification results using the 16S rRNA gene showed that the Nat1 isolate is identified as Panninobacter phragmatetus. A crude enzyme of Nat1 isolate showed a novel amylase ability and could degrade the raw starch substrates, such as corn and sago, with the amount of reducing sugar for each raw starch, 37.0688 µmol/mg, and 24.2697 µmol/mg. In conclusion, Nat1 amylase is potentially used in industry for its ability to degrade raw starch directly.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini dilaksanakan di Desa Padang Rejo, Kecamatan Pagelaran, Kabupaten Pringsewu dengan tujuan meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan anggota PKK dalam branding produk dan strategi pemasaran UMKM. Mitra kegiatan masih menghadapi kendala dalam memahami konsep pemasaran dan pengelolaan merek, sehingga produk lokal kurang memiliki daya saing di pasar yang lebih luas. Kegiatan dilakukan melalui beberapa tahap, meliputi survei, analisis kebutuhan, pelatihan, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan melalui pendekatan partisipatif, yang meliputi ceramah interaktif, diskusi kelompok, dan diskusi langsung bersama narasumber dari kalangan akademisi dan praktisi. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan peserta secara signifikan, dari rata-rata nilai pretest 89,23 menjadi posttest 98,46. Peserta juga mulai mampu merancang logo, kemasan, serta menggunakan media digital seperti WhatsApp Business, Instagram dan Shopee sebagai media promosi dan media untuk menjangkau konsumen jauh. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan anggota PKK dalam menerapkan strategi pemasaran dan branding secara efektif serta menjadi langkah awal dalam pengembangan ekonomi kreatif masyarakat desa.

Abstract

Thermophilic bacteria generally thrive in hot springs and produce thermostable enzymes. These enzymes retain catalytic activity at high temperatures and play an important role in various industrial applications. This study aims to conduct screening, isolation, and characterization of thermophilic amylase-producing bacteria from the Ulubelu hot spring located in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung. Hot spring water samples from a location with a temperature of 60°C and pH 5 yielded eight bacterial isolates with amylolytic activity, as indicated by clear zones around the colonies. Among the isolates obtained, Ulb A3.7 exhibited the largest clear zone diameter and was therefore selected for further characterization. Morphological and physiological analyses revealed that Ulb A3.7 is a Gram-negative rod-shaped bacterium. The Ulb A3.7 isolate tested positive for oxidative-fermentative metabolism, oxidase activity, and glucose utilization. The crude α-amylase from Ulb A3.7 exhibited optimal activity at 80°C and demonstrated a broad activity range. The enzyme was able to retain its amylolytic activity for up to 300 minutes of incubation, indicating its potential for application in high-temperature industrial processes.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini dilakukan di Sekolah Rakyat Busa Pustaka, Kemiling Bandar Lampung. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi anak usia dini melalui pembelajaran interaktif, dan eksperimen pembuatan es krim sederhana. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini menggunakan pendekatan edukatif, partisipatif, dan berbasis pengalaman (experiential learning), yang dilakukan melalui beberapa tahapan: (1)  observasi, dan pemberian pretest, (2) sosialisasi literasi, (3) pembelajaran interaktif,  dan (4) eksperimen pembuatan es krim sederhana, (5) postest, dan penutup. Peserta dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah 32 anak usia dini berusia 5–8 tahun. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan literasi peserta, dimana pada tahap pretest, persentase peserta yang berada pada kategori literasi cukup dan baik adalah 58,44%, kemudian meningkat menjadi 100% pada tahap posttest. Hasil observasi juga menunjukkan adanya peningkatan partisipasi aktif, antusiasme, kemampuan mengajukan pertanyaan, merespons materi, dan menjelaskan kembali tahapan permbuatan es krim yang telah dilakukan. Dengan demikian, pembelajaran interaktif berbasis eksperimen sederhana dapat menjadi alternatif strategi yang efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan literasi anak usia dini melalui pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan dan kontekstual.
