Abstract

Artikel ini membahas beberapa isu yang berhubungan dengan hak bahasaminoritas secara umum. Ini bermula dari fenomena bahasa dimana bahasa Inggris digunakan sebagai bahasanomor satu di dunia. Selanjutnya dalam artikel ini dijelaskan hakikat hak bahasa minoritas dan tujuannya sertapengelompokan hak bahasa minoritas tersebut. Lebih lanjut, dijelaskan pula kaitan antara bahasa dan pendidikansecara khusus dalam sistem pendidikan di Indonesia.

Abstract

This article discusses some issues relating to minority language rights in general. This stems from the phenomenon of the language where English is used as the number one language in the world. Furthermore, in this article we explain the nature of minority language rights and their objectives as well as the grouping of minority language rights. Furthermore, there is also a link between language and education specifically in the education system in Indonesia.

Abstract

The use of textbooks as a media in teaching learning processes especially in English Language Teaching cannot be denied. That’s why this present study is intended to investigate types of speaking activities presented in buku Bahasa Inggris for Tourism Vocational High School. The content of an English text book was described and analyzed by using a descriptive qualitative method. Buku Bahasa Inggris kelas X had been chosen as the source of data. The collected data were analyzed through some steps such as (1) classifying the data into types of speaking activities (Acting from Script, Communication Games, Discussions, Paper Talk, Questionnaires, Simulation and Role Play) and (2) identifying the dominant type of speaking activities. The result indicates buku Bahasa Inggris Kelas X contains six types of speaking activities and it is dominated by speaking activity of prepared talk

Abstract

This study is intended to investigate how the EFL teachers in Ruteng run their English class within COVID-19 pandemic era. It focuses on the media used in teaching and learning process and their reason/s of choosing and using those media. It is significance to examine as the teaching and learning process within COVID-19 pandemic is different from conventional teaching and learning process. The study is done under qualitative research and has 30 EFL teachers of both junior and senior high schools in Ruteng, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia as the respondents. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and doing an interview in WhatsApp. The result shows that (1) there are six applications used by EFL teachers as their teaching media (WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Zoom, Google meet and Schoology) with the most dominant application used is WhatsApp. (2) Each EFL teacher in Ruteng uses at least two-four applications in running their online class and (3) the purpose of using those applications are to share the material, arrange task or examination, correct and give feedback to students’ work.
