Abstract

Poverty and inequality have become challenges for most developing countries in the world. Large number of the poor are concentrated in the rural area, and mostly are farmer. The objectives of the study were to identify the poverty occurrence in the rural Bojonegoro and, to analyze the income inequality among them. This research was conducted in rural areas in Bojonegoro Regency, and there were 60 rural households interviewed. The FGT index (Headcount index, Poverty Gap index and Poverty Severity index) and the Criterions of BPS, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank were introduced to identify the poverty occurred in the rural area. Meanwhile, the Gini index and Lorentz curve were employed to measure the income inequality among those households. The result shows that the level of poverty in rural Bojonegoro considered to be quite high (based on the criterions of World Bank and Asian Development Bank), on the contrary, based on BPS criteria, the poverty level is fairly low. The ‘depth of poverty’ score measured by the FGT index is 0.05, meanwhile the ‘severity of poverty’ score is 0.02. Furthermore, the income is distributed unequally among the rural households showed by the Gini index of 0.459.

Abstract

Food security and food self-sufficiency at household level are much determined by their farm production. Meanwhile, some areas considered as the marginal area are constrained by limited support of natural resources. Thus, many households lived in marginal area will face food insecurity. This study aimed to understand the households’ food security level, both measured by using the Energy Sufficiency Score (AKE) and the Food Expenditure Share (PPP). Furthermore, this study also tries to identify the food self-sufficiency level among rural marginal household in Bojonegoro Regency. The result of study shows that there is a wide disparity among rural household in the food/energy intake, this is shown by the average level of food/energy intake level that is considered high (87%), meanwhile there is 53% of the households categorized as the food insecure household. Based on the Food Expenditure Share level, most of the households are categorized as food secure households. The food self-sufficiency, particularly rice, have been attained.

Abstract

Sugarcane revitalization is both a challenge and an opportunity in Indonesia. Demand for sugar tends to increase from year to year that fulfilled by domestic production and imports. Thus, it is necessary to increase domestic sugarcane competitiveness to balance national sugarcane production and consumption. This study’s objectives were (1) to determine the forward linkage and backward linkage of sugarcane in Indonesia, and (2) to know the output, income, and employment multiplier. The linkages and multipliers of sugarcane were calculated by the input-output analysis of 66 sectors from 1975 to 2005 by Statistics Indonesia (BPS). Estimation values for 2010, 2015, and 2020 are obtained from the linear forecasting method. T-test was used to compare linkages and multipliers between sugarcane and the average of all sectors in the economy. The results showed that the backward linkage, output, and employment multiplier of sugarcane were lower than the average of all sectors in the economy. Besides, the forward linkage of sugarcane was equal, and the income multiplier was higher than the average of all sectors in the economy.

Abstract

Many Nucleus Estate-Small holding (NES) coo-partnerships often experience dynamics and leave several problems for both parties engaged in the partnership, and in serious way, it may threaten the sustainability of the partnership. This research’s objectives are 1) to determine the level of willingness to sustain the NES coo-partnership, and 2) to analyze the determinant factors of the willingness to sustain the NES coo-partnership. Location of the research comprises two villages namely Kaliboja and Kaliombo, located in Paninggaran sub-district, Pekalongan regency. Ninety tea farmers selected by using convenience sampling method are involved and interviewed. Descriptive method and ordered logistic regression are employed to answer the objectives of the research. The result shows that most farmers are willing to sustain the NES coo-partnership. Moreover, the determinant factors of the willingness to sustain partnerships are the age of farmer, farmer’s tea production, and partnership effectiveness.
