Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Edentulism post tooth extraction is an undesirable state among patients, specifically with the involvement of anterior dentition. Immediate denture in cases of anterior teeth extraction is a selected treatment to recover aesthetic and phonetic function. This treatment shows an impact on psychological stability and improves patients’ confidence level. Objective: This case report provides information on the management of immediate removable partial denture for maxillary and mandibular teeth. Case: A female teacher suffered from tooth loss of 26, 28, 36, 46, 47. Tooth 11, 14, 21, 22, 31, 32, 41, 42 were not supported with adequate periodontal tissue and presented with level 3 tooth mobility. Patient expected the teeth to be removed and managed with prosthodontic appliance, yet disfavoring the stage of edentulism because her profession demanded high social performance. Case management: The treatment for this case includes immediate removable partial denture with acrylic material in upper and lower jaw. Denture was fabricated prior to the extraction of tooth 11, 14, 21, 22, 31, 32, 41, 42, and inserted promptly. The insertion result showed good occlusion, retention, stabilization, and tissue adaptation of denture. It also demonstrated good aesthetic result. On 24 hours control post insertion, wound closure was gradually established with the presence of redness. A week after insertion, wounded tissue had been fully covered and redness had been diminished. Conclusion: Immediate removable partial denture provides good aesthetic and function. Patient was satisfied with the treatment because it improved her appearance without experiencing any period of edentulism. Keywords: Aesthetics, Edentulous, Extraction, Immediate Removable Partial Denture.

Abstract

Abstract

In order to achieve dental and oral health indicators, promotive and preventive efforts are needed in addition to curative and rehabilitative measures. Promotive action is by conducting training for elderly cadres about dental and oral health for the elderly and counseling about dental and oral health for the elderly. The dental and oral health status of the elderly in the working area of the Gladapakem Health Center has received little attention. As well as the knowledge and attitude of the elderly towards dental and oral health is also low; it can be seen that many older adults with no teeth are left without wearing dentures. Elderly cadres at Posyandu have a significant role. Based on interviews with nurses holding the elderly Posyandu program in the working area of the Gladakpakem Health Center, Sumbersari District, Jember Regency, the activities carried out so far are checking blood pressure, body weight, if there are complaints referred to the Health Center. Meanwhile, dental and oral examination activities and counseling on dental and oral health carried out by health cadres are rarely done. Knowledge of dental and oral health cadres also needs to be improved. So the servant carried out the service by holding training and mentoring for elderly health cadres in Posyandu Catleya Kebonsari Village and Kranjingan Village regarding dental and oral health. From the results of community service activities, it can be concluded that there is an increase in skill knowledge about elderly dental and oral health in elderly cadres. Keywords: dental and oral health, elderly patient, posyandu.

Abstract

Highlights Ameloblastoma is a widely discussed odontogenic tumor, yet research on less invasive treatment options for recurrent cases remains limited. BRAF-targeted therapy offers a less invasive approach that may reduce the extent of surgical intervention required.   ABSTRACT Background: Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor that can affect surrounding tissues and is prone to recurrence if not completely excised. Surgical therapy is currently the primary treatment modality. However, recurrences are common following prior surgical interventions. Recently, a novel approach involving BRAF (B-Rapidly Accelerated Fibrosarcoma)-targeted therapy has been introduced, aiming to prevent molecular mutations. This therapy is non-invasive, but its efficacy in treating recurrent ameloblastoma remains uncertain. Objective: This article aimed to compare the outcomes of conservative and radical surgery with BRAF-targeted therapy in the management of recurrent ameloblastoma. Material and Method: An electronic search was conducted using the PubMed and Scopus databases. Relevant studies were selected based on predefined inclusion criteria. Results: A total of nine studies were included in the analytical synthesis. Recurrence in ameloblastoma is often due to residual tumor tissue located in anatomically challenging areas following surgery. BRAF-targeted therapy has emerged as a promising option for patients with recurrent disease, offering precise tumor targeting and potentially reducing the need for further surgical intervention. Conclusion: Surgical and BRAF-targeted therapies each offer benefits in managing recurrent ameloblastoma. While recurrence is often linked to residual tumors in complex anatomical areas, BRAF-targeted therapy provides a non-invasive, precise alternative—especially for patients with multiple recurrences. It can reduce tumor size, improve lesion localization, and potentially limit the need for extensive surgery.
