Abstract

The Sultanate of Yogyakarta which, during the struggle for independence and subsequently has been known as the Special Region of Yogyakarta, is located in the southern part of Central Java. It constitutes much of the heartland of Javanese culture, for Yogyakarta was the center of the pre-colonial Kingdom of Mataram.Within Yogyakarta Special Region, there is a marked contrast in the population density between Bantu! and Sleman regencies on one hand, and Gunung Kidul and Kulon Progo on the other hand. The basic reason for this difference is the fact that the soil of Bantul and Sleman regencies is primarily young and vulcanic, while there is also a good water supply and intensive irrigation network. The annual rate of population growth in Yogyakarta Special Region is much lower compared with other provinces in Java. During 1961 and 1971 the rate of population growth was 1.1 percent, for the period 1971— 1980 became 1.09 percent. This region experienced a net loss of population through migration, and that the losses were greater in the poor areas of Gunung Kidul and Kulon Progo

Abstract

The total population of Yogyakarta Special Region was 2,966,549 persons in 1985, while the population density was 931 persons/sq.km. The Yogyakarta Special Region is one of the poor areas of Java in an economic sense. The annual rate of its population growth is much lower than those of other provinces in Java. The region experienced a net loss of population through migration. The losses were greater in the poor areas of Gunung Kidul, one of its regencies. This study aims at developing the knowledge on the nature and incidence of population mobility from the rural to the urban areas, and investigating the extent and nature of the links established and maintained between the area of origin and the area of destination, by temporarily returning migrants in Ngawis Village of Gunung Kidul. The main reason for migrating out of the village is an economic one. Although the greater part of returning migrants stated that their economic conditions improved after moving out, the income they receive monthly is still low. The link between migrants and their relatives back home is very intensive. They maintain contact by visiting, sending letters, money and goods, and exchange views and ideas on developmental issues.

Abstract

There were three kinds of goat developed in Bali since a long time ago i.e. Gembrong goat, EtawahCrossbred goat, and Kacang goat. Gembrong goat is nearly disappearingrecently due to decrease of itspopulation from year to year. The Gembrong goat has very interesting performance, funny, and this speciesis Balinese native goats. The objective of thisexperiment was to know the blood illustration among thethree speciesof the Balinese native goatwhere in the future it can be used as a guide to develop each ofthem. The experiment was used nine adults goats namely three adult male Gembrong goats, three adultmale Etawah Crossbred goats, and three adult male Kacang Goats respectively. The animal fed dailygreen feed grows around them and additional rice bran. Blood samples of the animals were collected forabout10-15 mL each with venoject, and then was kept in a cooler box and subsequently sent to the ProdiaClinic Laboratory at Denpasar. The results of the experiment showed that blood illustration of the threekinds of goat was not significantly different (P > 0.05) except the triglyseride.

Abstract

Gembrong goat is a specific type of goat which has long hair covers its whole body including its neckand face, originated from eastern part of Bali (Karangasem). A study of this type of goat and its relationshipwith other local goats (Kacang and Kacang x Etawah crossbred) was carried out at Sawe village, Jembrana,Bali.. A number of 12 gembrong goats, 3 kacang goats from Kubu village, Karangasem and 3 Kacang xEtawah crossbred goats from Denpasar were used in this study. Blood samples of all goats were collectedfor mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) analysis. PCR amplification of D-loop mitochondrial DNA was carriedout by using two primers i.e. CAP-F (5’-CGTGTATGCAAGTACATTAC -3’) and CAP-R (5’-CTGATTAGTCATTAGTCCATC – 3’) . Sequencing of 550 bp (base-pairs) of mitochondrial DNA (productof PCR) only found one polymorphic site at base number 231 with two haplotypes in gembrong goat only, while the other base-pairs were similar between the three goat types (Gembrong, Kacang and Kacang xEtawah crossbred) .The frequency of haplotype 1 was 83.3% and the frequency of haplotype 2 was 16.7%.It was concluded that based on their mitochondrial DNA sequences and “phylogenic analysis”, the threetypes of goat (Gembrong,Kacang and Kacang xEtawah crossbred) had a very close genetic relationship(kinship).

Abstract

In Indonesia including Bali island until now, a lot of Etawah Goat Crossbred raised by farmers. Inthe island, there was  lots of  agriculture by products available which were not much used yet for animalfeed. There is an opportunity the product were supplemented with Optizym enzyme to  feed the animal. The enzyme was a cellulotic one. The objective of this experiment was to study hematology (packaged cellvolume, hemoglobin, erythrocytes, leukocytes, neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, eosinophil, sedimentationrate) and clinical chemistry of blood (creatinine, urea, serum glutamic piruvat transaminase, serum glutamicoxaloacetic transaminase, glucose, and cholesterol). The experiment was conducted for 2 months at Bukit-Jimbaran, Badung, Bali. Measurements were conducted  on the packaged cell volume with the method ofmicrohematocrite, hemoglobin with the method of Hematin (Hemoglobinometer or Hemometer Sahli),erythrocytes and leukocytes with the method of Hemocytometer (improved Neubaeur), differential ofleukocytes (neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, eosinophil) with the method of slide; and blood sedimentationrate with the method of Westergreen, while measurements of the creatinine, urea, serum glutamic piruvattransaminase, serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glucose, and cholesterol were conducted with Reflotron Plus modified Reflovet Plus (Roch).Data were analyzed with Analysis of Variance. Results ofthe experiment showed that supplementation of the optizym for 0,25 kg and 0,50 kg in every 100 kg basaldiet of agriculture by products (unconventional) were not increased significantly on the packaged cellvolume, hemoglobin, total erythrocytes, total leucocytes, neuthrophil, lymposite, monocyte and the samething was also occurred on serum glutamic piruvat transaminase, serum glutamic oxaloacetictransaminase, glucose, and cholesterol of the animals (P > 0.05) compared to the untreated one; while therest (blood sedimentation rate, creatinine, and urea) were on the other way around (P < 0.05). However, they were not affected their performances. The animals still look healthy.  It can be concluded that thesupplementation of the optizym in this case was no effect to hematology and clinical chemistry of blood.
