Abstract

This study aimed to describe the writing skills of the students at the boarding school in terms of form and rules of Indonesian. This research strategy using case studies from August to November 2013. Data selected with purposive sampling techniques consisting of, 15 male students and 15 female students. Data were collected through: 1) observation, 2) interview, 3) sheets of observations, and 4) test. Validity reached by: 1) triangulation of data sources, 2) triangulation of data collection methods, and 3) review of informant. Data analysis use traditional two stages, ie, classifying and interactive analysis model of Miles. The results are: 1) the students do not understand the type or form of composition description; 2) there are errors on: (a) the use of capital letters, (b) the use of letters or italics, (c) the use of punctuation comma, (d) condensation said, (e) writing 'di' as preposition and 'di' as affix, and (f) writing the correct word in accordance EYD; 3) students do not understand the process of forming a word; 4) students have not been able to write a sentence properly and effectively; and 5) students do not understand and pay attention to the meaning of sentences.

Abstract

“Mataraisa”, a novel written by Abidah El Khalieqy is interesting to be analyzed. This novel gives strong image of an intellectual woman who are dare to ekspress their idea about women’s right. The research focuses on discussing the feminist idea and action in “Mataraisa” novel by Abidah El Khalieqy.The purpose of this research is to describe the feminist ideaand action of the female characters in “Mataraisa” novel by Abidah El Khalieqy.This research used descriptive method and feminism analysis. The technique of collecting data is library research through studying the literatures discussing feminism. The research conclusion isthe feminist idea and action of female characters are purposed to get gender equality in their society. Concretely, it is shown in the field of freedom of speech, education, workload, and social life.

Abstract

AbstractWriting is a skill that involves creativity. It can be triggered by using a stimulating activity of both hemispheres of the brain. This study aims to describe the improvement of narrative writing skills by using a learning model based on the balancing of the functions of the right and left hemispheres of the brain. The research method used is classroom action research through three implementation cycles from January – December 2019 in three elementary schools in Ponorogo, Indonesia. The sample of this study was 72 students of grade 4. The data collected through using tests, observations, and interviews were then analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that to produce good writing, students need to be guided and given a lighter. After balancing the functions of the cerebral hemispheres, 86% or 62 students met the minimum completeness score. The students' ability in writing narratives has increased significantly, especially in the aspects of content, content organization, vocabulary, grammar, and spelling.Keywords: narrative writing; the balancing of the functions of the cerebral hemispheres; the brain learning model.AbstrakMenulis merupakan keterampilan yang melibatkan kreativitas. Ini dapat dipicu dengan menggunakan aktivitas stimulasi kedua belahan otak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan keterampilan menulis narasi dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran berbasis keseimbangan fungsi belahan otak kanan dan kiri. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas melalui tiga siklus pelaksanaan dari Januari – Desember 2019 di tiga sekolah dasar di Ponorogo, Indonesia. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 72 siswa kelas 4. Data yang dikumpulkan melalui tes, observasi, dan wawancara kemudian dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa untuk menghasilkan tulisan yang baik, siswa perlu dibimbing dan diberi pemantik. Setelah dilakukan penyeimbangan fungsi belahan otak, 86% atau 62 siswa memenuhi nilai ketuntasan minimal. Kemampuan siswa dalam menulis narasi meningkat secara signifikan, terutama dalam aspek isi, organisasi isi, kosa kata, tata bahasa, dan ejaanKata kunci: menulis narasi; menyeimbangkan fungsi belahan otak; model pembelajaran otak.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the application of the use of multisensory media in learning to write narratives based on balancing brain function. The research method used is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Place of research in elementary schools in Ponorogo. Subjects in the study were teachers and elementary school students in grade IV. Data collection techniques are direct observation techniques, interview techniques, and tests. The instruments of data collection are observation guides, interview guides, and test questions. The data analysis technique uses mastery learning guidelines. The results showed that the use of multisensory media in the form of media images, concrete objects, and film media can be used to ignite emotions as a basis for the initial search and development of ideas. The use of picture media can produce students categorically mastery as many as 30 students, the use of concrete media objects 59 students, and the use of film media as many as 63 of the 72 students studied. The use of multisensory media is very important in implementing learning based on balancing brain function.
